I am trying to download OS X Lion

My question is...if there is no window showing download progress and only the icon of the lion appearing in my dock...can I rest assured that it is downloading? When I called Apple to inquire, they would not speak to me unless I purchased a service call for $49.99. I received emails from both Paypal and Apple saying that I have purchased the software. It's okay if it takes two days as I see that it has for some people!!! But how do I know that it is actually happening? I did close the window to the apple store...and maybe that was a mistake?

Are you sure the donwload isn't complete?
There would be a small blue progress bar on the icon if it were still downloading.

i am trying to download OS X Lion from the app store and it says it can not complete my purchase becuase it needs at least 2GB of space and over 2GB on my computer...any ideas??

That requirement is referring to the need for 2gB of RAM, not hard drive space.

  • Help!  App Store spinning wheel when trying to download OS X Lion

I've spent several hours today trying to download OS X Lion from the App Store.  Everytime I click on the 29.99 button, and then the Buy App button the spinning wheel starts at the top of the App Store Window.  If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it!
My specifics:  iMac, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Available space 162.7 GB, Max OS X Version 10.6.8 (Snow Lepoard)
I called Apple Support, and they told me to order the USB drive, but I'd like to just download this ASAP.
    Thanks a million!

"The solution is not to have to spend more then twice as much to be able to access the same thing you can through the app store."  (Opps, don't know how to credit the prior commenter, but thank you!)
They didn't even mention the $69 price!  As it is I already had to order the 2012 Quickbooks (over $150!), because Lion didn't support my 2010 Quickbooks - wow, this upgrade is getting more and more expensive!  Even though I LOVE my Apple products, I tell people that they don't "nickle and dime you, they 100 dollar bill you to death!"

You are not specific with your problem or errors but one thing that always throws people off is as follows:
When entering you're login name you must use the entire login with carrier name such as [email protected] The field defults to just your name but not the carrier name.

You are confusing Free Disc Space with RAM.

    You need more RAM
You can use these Links to check which RAM is suitable for your Mac...

    1. Make sure that your machine is compatible with Mountain Lion
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
    2. Run into safe mode and test downloading it there
    3. If the above does not work, Create a new location(go to system preferences > network > click Location)
    4. Add Google DNS

You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

  • Trying to download OS X Lion- it now say it is paused

I have been having so much trouble downlading OS X Lion.  I am very disappointed with MAC. I bought a new macbook pro. It was supposed to be a simple free download of OS X lion. Now it has been my nightmare. I ended up loosing patiente and turned off my laptop after a 4 -5 hour download. It jsut seen stuck and not downloading anymore. I turned off and on my laptop. Now it just says that it is Paused. I tried from I tune -Check for available download but it says that everything is downladed. This was a free downlad for me that it starting to be a real mess. I miss the good old days where you had a simple CD-rom to install new software. This is my first MAC and very frustrated. Can anyone help me  with this download? it is stuck on pause. How can I re-start the download?
    Thanks

Ok, well, having had Snow leopard on it originally solves the question: the license for Lion (or Mountain Lion for that matter) is not transferable. You are required to erase the drive and reinstall the original OS (Snow Leopard). Giving or selling it with Lion (or ML) on it will not be helpful for the recipient because the machine ID and their Apple ID will no longer match so they will not be able to get updates.
Have you checked your Purchases section at the app store? Here is what shows on mine:
If you are using the recovery mode and Mountain Lion comes up, then I can only assume that this is what you purchased. I don't know why it would show up otherwise.
As far as selling your Mac, the above is irrelevant since you will need to reinstall Snow Leopard and the recipient will need to purchase Lion (or Mountain Lion) using their own Apple ID.
However, you need to check on this since you may want to download Lion again for another machine of yours. So, if you are sure you purchased Lion and nothing shows under your Purchases at MAS, I would either call Apple or make an appointment with your nearest Genius Bar to get it sorted.

  • HT1338 error message when trying to download os x lion

Hi. I bought OS X Lion from itunes online. My computer has enough memory, etc., so that is not the problem.
I keep getting an error message. I think it might be some printers in the way - I think this because that kept popping up today when I was at the Genious Bar.
Any suggestions on how to find out what the error is? No code is given.
    Thanks in advance.

It appears Apple’s download servers are ‘overwhelmed’ today.  I couldn’t download the newest iTunes update or IOS 7 and there are a lot of discussions today about not being able to download. One poster said they had chatted with App Store support who confirmed the problem.

  • Hello. Im trying to download OSX mountain lion on 2013 Macbook air but I get a message saying this isnt supported. Could someone advise me please - its my first mac so please forgive the stupidity!

However when I try to, I get an error message saying it is not compatible ? According to the list it should be as its the new 13 inch. Forgive my stupidity as I have just got my head around an iMAC and whilst I love my MBA , I get a bit stumpped!!! Any help gratefully received. Thanks S

As shldr2thewheel pointed out, a 2013 MacBook would have shipped with Mountain Lion installed. It is a specialized version for that specific model, so a version of Mountain Lion downloaded from the Mac App Store will not work.
If you ever need to reinstall the OS, just use the built-in recovery partition, or Internet Recovery.

  • I'm trying to download and install lion onto my computer, but I can't because I have not purchased lion from the app store

I have erased my hard drive, so I can't buy it from the app store, even so - I can't find it. I do not have a disk that works with this computers software either.

I'm a little confused by your post. What exactly is it that you're trying to do, and what OS (if any) is installed right now?
If your computer originally came with an earlier OS and you have lost your disks, you will need to obtain those to restore it to its original condition. You can buy the retail 10.6.3 disk if your original OS was earlier than that ; otherwise you will need the exact grey original disks, which Apple can provide if you call them.
If Lion is not available on the App Store, again, Apple should be able to sell you a redemption code to allow you to install it - but you would have to install 10.6 first to get access to the store.

  • HT4483 I am trying to download OS X Lion 10.7 on my MacBook and it won't do it...

    Is anybody there?

Is this you first download and you actually have OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on your Mac, or are you redownloading the Lion Installer app using your Purchases list?

  • I'm trying to download OS X Lion, but find nowhere where I can place the order

Would like very much to order system OS X Lion.  Find no place to click to place order.

You must buy Lion through the Mac App Store. You will find it in your Applications folder. Open the app. Sign into the the MAS using the same account that you use for the iTunes stores and click the link for Lion on the right side of the store window.
