Trying to download the Trial of Acrobat DC but when I get to the page that says "when your download is complete, you will be able to start using Acrobat" nothing happens. The download never starts.

and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

I went to Purchases and it worked from there having had the same problem you describe.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have attempted this many times to no avail. As I said in my original post, "I have researched this problem on this forum and the Adobe site and believe that I have tried everything over the past week."
It is very late here (I am in Greece). I will have a further attempt in the morning. The windows machine is hut down. Thanks for your help.

Safari is part of OS X and isn't available as a separate download. How did you get a newer version than the one that comes with Lion?

It appears the phone has been restored, but I cannot activate it.
I disabled my anti-software, iTunes and computer software (microsoft vista) are both up to date, I restarted the computer several times. My usb ports are working properly. I followed the troubleshooting suggestions from apple.
