I am trying to hook up my new macbook pro to my t.v.

For christmas i recieved a 2013 macbook 13" retina display laptop. I also recieved a few movies that came with a digital download. i have most of the movies on my itunes account now. When i plug the laptop into the t.v. using an HDMI to HDMI cable it works, but when i close the laptop it stops. i need to close it because the only place i can put it for the cable to reach in in a small spot where it cannot remain open. To get to the point i want to know if there is a way to keep the movie running on my t.v. but close my laptop. P.S. id prefer if the laptop would be in sleep mode but anything would be helpful. thanks

I purchased Huawei Dongle and trying to connect with my new MacBook Pro (OS- Mountain Lion) USB port 3.0 but unfortunately it does not support.
When I plugged in my macbook the power is flowing in dongle due green light blinking twice in every 3 sec but no connection found or diver shown.
Please let me know how I have to use it. I got some suggestion for USB hub 2.0 but It does not make any sense and driver installation.

Yes Clinton I did same, but they were (Huawei customer support) surprised about this problem, They behave like they have no idea about USB 2.0 and 3.0 knowledge. They handsUp that reason I posted my problem in this forum.
So is there any better solution to use any mediator between these USB version handling, Please let me know.

thanks, guys mirror on/off didn't make a difference and there were no resolution options with the cable. switched to a VGA adaptor and all is working great now! cheers

Can you still boot to the Recovery partition using Command and R whilst booting? Or did you wipe the Recovery partition as well?
If your Recovery partition is still intact, you can simply boot to it and reinstall the OS via the Internet. If you wiped the Recovery partition, you can hold down Command, option and R keys whilst booting and boot into true Internet Recovery mode. You'll be able to reformat the hard drive, erasing all partitions (format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a dingle GUID partition) and then reinstall the OS that shipped with your machine.
Note that you should use a physical Ethernet connection when restoring over the Internet - it's three times slower if you use wifi.
Try your Recovery partition first and if that doesn't work, use Internet Recovery.

I have PS3 and PS4 installed on Mac 27", but when I try to install PS4 on my new MacBook Pro will not accept Serial # on my PS3 Extended case. Even though I have PS3 Extended installed!! Tried Serial # with and without dash, but neither works. Had both installed also on my MacBook Air OK but I wiped intend installed new OS. Not clear why PS4 not accept PS3 Serial # despite the fact that PS3 Extended already installed with the correct Serial #.

Photoshop 3 and Photoshop 4 for the Mac were released in the 1990s before Mac OSX and will only run natively on the Classic Mac OS (OS 9.x or older). They may run under emulation in "Classic Mode" on a PPC Mac up until OSX 10.4. They will not run on any Mac with an Intel processor nor with OSX 10.5 or newer. Same with Photoshop 5 and Photoshop 6.

As for upgrades, you can go back about (3) revisions to use the old SN for an install; e.g. a PS 7 SN can be upgraded to PS CS3 (10.x) but not to PS CS4 (11.x). So, there is no way PS 3 could be upgraded directly to PS CS4 (11.x)

Trying to connect iMac to new Macbook Pro

I just got a new MBP and am trying to network it with my intel iMac (late 2007). I can only connect as a guest. I try to connect as an administrator and am asked for a password. I enter my password and it says it is not correct. I have only assigned one password on my mac and assumed it would be the same one for the network, apparantly not. I am not sure what to do. I have enabled home sharing in itunes and that works. I tried using the generic password for the netgear router but that is not it either. Any thoughts?

Screen sharing setup in 10.5, 10.6 are described by the links by operating system. 10.7 is fairly similar to 10.6.
And if both Macs have Firewire, you can setup a Firewire over IP network for fast communication between machines. Note if you have two different Firewire ports a 6 pin to 9 pin Firewire cable does exist. There are no Firewire to USB cables.

Aperture 1.5.3 on new MacBook Pro 2.4 17''

I tried Aperture on a brand new MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz 17" this week-end. This was a stock MacBook Pro, 2 GB ram, 256 MB Graphics card (nVidia, I think, on the new machines). I was quite astonished that while it was faster than my old Powerbook 1.33 GHz 17" with certain adjustments, it wasn't really amazingly faster. In fact, rotating an image was almost as slow and cumbersome as on my Powerbook - after I'd played with the thing for about 30 mins.
This is really a pity as I'd looked forward to buying one of these speed monsters... Now it looks as if I'm going to have to continue hoping for 10.5 which will hopefully provide a lot faster CoreGraphics routines. Maybe they'll have released an LED 17" MacBook Pro by then, as well.

It is not necessarily about vast OS changes. What happens is that a system setup and installation can be kludged up or otherwise corrupted; still runs, but not at optimum throughput.
Many folks who run multiple heavy graphics apps find that repairing Permissions immediately before and after every installation of every kind, as well as keeping OS and app versions current, and avoiding "free" or unnecessary apps as much as possible helps keep setups optimized.

Cant copy over iPhoto Library to new Macbook Pro (Retina 15")

So I tried migrating everything to a new Macbook Pro, all in all it was successful, but when I tried to start iPhotos up, the iPhoto Library got corrupt during the Library Upgrade process. I then copied my original iPhoto Library file (90GB) to an ext. harddrive to try again, but when I tried to copy that (original) file on to the Macbook Pro, the computer kept telling me that there is not enough free space. This dont seem right to me, given that I have 175GB free space available out of 256GB.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it because of the large file size? Is there a way to copy this file on to the machine? I've never ran into a size limit for files before, but then again, I cant remember the last time I tried to copy a 90GB file.
Any people would be greatly appriciated!

Yeah thats all fine, and everything is backed up. but I dont want to link the library to an ext drive.
I actually got it working in a really convoluted way:
I opened the iPhoto Library Package and copied the MODIFIED and ORIGINALS folders (these were the largest sized folders) over seperately from the rest of the Library. There seems to be some sort of size limit to Mountian Lion that wont let you copy files that are larger then 24GB in size (maybe an SSD thing?). So I copied over everything to the desktop, and then put all the folders back in the package. That worked like a charm!
*I wouldnt recommend this method to a novice. Its imperative that everything goes back in the right place, or you can destroy your Library.
I guess if I didnt do it this way, I could have also tried CCC, or time machine, which I believe circumvent this size restriction.

Since new MacBook Pro: iTunes freeze during iPhone sync

I know that there are already a lot of discussions going on about these but nothing works for me.
MacBook Pro mid 2012:
MacOS 10.8.5 ---> new clean install
iTunes 11.1.1 ---> new clean install
iPhone 3Gs:
iOS 6.1.3 ---> new clean install
The problem:
The problem started after a clean Mountain Lion install on a new MacBook Pro.
Updated all applications an system.
Copied iTunes folder to new MacBook Pro.
Connected iPhone to sync with new MacBook Pro.
And ...
iTunes freeze during iPhone sync for the first time in many years whitout problems.
Some apps in iPhone are partly installed because of freeze.
When i delete them they appear again during next sync and then iTunes freezes again.
What i already have tried:
# Clean iOS install --> again and again
# Recover from older back-up --> again and again
# New user
# New iTunes install
# Delete iTunes preferences and cache
# Delete all apps
# Reset permissions on the user in repair center
# select: "Prevent ..., iPhones, ... from syncing automatically"
---> but when i connect the iPhone it start syncing automatically???
# and so on, and so on
All the rest is working like a beauty!
Please help, getting down and losing al lot of time.

It have taken me all day but it's solved!
During last sync on old MacBook Pro the new version of the iBook app was only synced partly.
That's why, when i was trying to sync on my new MacBook Pro, iTunes was freezing during sync.
Once i have synced my iPhone on the old MacBook Pro again, and iBook app was synced complete, this problem was fixed.

I have an HP officejet printer hooked up the the router to work wirelessley, The router is reading it as connected. My computer reads it as offline. If I reset my computer it will print whatever the first thing is in the que but nothing else and does not work after that. Is there some sort of setting that I am missing? I am trying to set this printer up to work wirelessly from three mac laptops in my house but I can't even get it to work on one right now. Any help would be awesome

Turn off Find My iPhone in iCloud on the iDevice.
Log out of iMessage, Facetime, remove Apple ID from iTunes & App Store.
Use Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Then set it up as a new iPhone with your own Apple ID.
