I am trying to import video from a tape deck but optimize media is not highligted as a choice

These will be my new original files, I cannot just import as proxy which is the only copy. Does anyone know how to make the optimized media option light up?

It won't. Tape based formats, DV and HDV, are already in a format that's optimized for production.

I'm trying to import photos from my iphoto library, but keep getting a message saying I cant import from 7.1.5, that I need to upgrade to 7.1.5 or later. But I have version 8.1.2. I don't know what to do. I've been able to import in the past.

Sounds like an issue with the iPhoto Library
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Does FCPX still import video from MiniDV tape?

I just went from Snow Leopard to Lion and now my trusty old FCP 6 will not install. Apple says they're sorry but there's nothing they can do to help.
So...I'm nervous about FCPX but am willing to learn if it will still import video from my DV deck from tape. Also, does FCPX do automatic logging and batch capturing from tape like FCP 6 did? I appreciate any advice.

I have created partitions on my hard drive and left enough space on one partition to keep Snow Leapard and I have about 3 apps on that partition that are not compatible with Lion and reboot in SL to use those apps.
If you really wanted to export back to tape after creating a video in FCPX, you can export the video as a Quicktime, reboot in SL, open FCP6, import the video and send to tape.
Long workarounds to simple soulutions from the past.
I have FCP7, so I don't have to reboot in SL.

I'm running it on my Sony Vaio laptop I got as a desktop replacement, specs aren't a problem, it runs perfectly with anything I do except for when I try to import video footage from my webcam under Get Media From.. Webcam or WDM Device. Every time I try, it just crashes. The webcam is built into the laptop and works just fine on any other program.
Any help would be very much appreciated

I am trying to download videos to my i-pod using a new computer. How do I get them without losing media that I purchased on my old computer? I have used the i-tunes on this computer only for burning music to CDs.

I just tried to import photos from iphone to MacAir but only some came across, many others as dark space. The app thinks I have transferred them all but I want to redo the process and it is not obvious how to do that. I deleted the dark images already,

How may I reimport photos from my iphone 4s to the MacAir iPhoto as only some images came across.. It is not obvious to me, like it is with other programs I have used.

Also, you can have Image Capture automatically open when you connect the phone or any camera. To do that you need to open iPhoto on your Mac (yes, the setting is in iPhoto and that is a bit strange).
Why do I have to buy iPhoto to get to a setting so that I don't have to use iPhoto?!?! Not very Apple-like.
If the device is attached and highlighted in Image Capture, the setting is in the bottom left corner.

The only simple answer without more information is RTM for camera and iPad. You are in the iOS forum so you must be trying to input to an ipad. Tell us what camera, what video format and exact destination.

Importing video from samsung hmx10c camcorder

Trying to import video from samsung's new hmx10c camcorder (oprah's 2007 list), and everything works great at first, (imovie sees camera, shows thumbnail clips). But then it gives me an error message when I try to import. Also, after connecting the camera to the macbook, if I look in the disk image on the desktop, the camera appears to have mp4 files on its internal memory, but they won't play in quicktime either.
Anyone know a method to get the avchd samsung video files into imovie 08? I've got a bad feeling about this.

Your problems may well be down to the way you connect your camera and in which order you establish a connection. If all else fails voltaic will get the files from your camera in AIC which will readily be imported into im08 for editing.

This is a mini-DV format camcorder. It will work with your Mac, but you need a Mac with a Firewire port, and you need a Firewire Cable.
Look in /About This Mac/More Info.../System Report/Hardware/Firewire to see if your Mac has Firewire and if so which type it has.
Older Macs will have a Firewire 400 port. You need a 6 pin to 4 pin Firewire Cable.

Some recent MacBooks are USB only. In this case you cannot import from the camera.
Some recent iMacs and MacBook Pros have Thunderbolt but not Firewire. In this case you need a 4 pin to 9 pin Firewire Cable and an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter.

IMovie not importing videos from iPhoto

I am trying to import videos from iPhoto into iMovie. It is not bringing in ( i.e. creating thumbnails for) anything after Dec 2010. The videos all show up in iPhoto and they were shot with an iPhone. Is there a date range set somewhere that I need to change. I can not even get them if I specifically try and import them one at a time through File-Import-Movies. When I try this method it lets me select the videos, but they still don't show up in my video thumbnails. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I open up iMovie and it then imports movies from iPhoto. The problem is it is missing several videos. When I select import video it imports those missing files, so I know it's not a file format issue... Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions on how to get ALL my videos into iMovie?
iPhoto will import any file that can be played in the QT Player (i.e., that is "playback" compatible). On the other hand, iMovie '08 will only import files that it can edit -- i.e. that are "edit" compatible. (Would you really want to waste your time importing files only to find that you can't do anything with them once they are "in" the application?) Your solution is to convert non-edit compatible files to compression formats that are editable -- primarily DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264. You should also note that both audio and video content must be edit compatible. For instance, many AVI files contain M-JPEG video which can be edited along with ADPCM audio which cannot be edited and so such files will not import.

Importing videos from Canon HG20

I am trying to import videos from my Canon HG20 camcorder to iMovie but it they do not seem to be importing. How can I do this?

I am having these kind of problems using Final Cut Pro X and iMovie. I am using a new iMac, Lion, FCPX and iMovie. I have an external firewire disk with the events and projects. It seems to be triggered by crash of FCPX and then after a while the disk will not be accessible. So far Disk Warrior has been able to repair the disk corruption, but it is very worrisome. Usually the Apple Disk repair says it can't repair the damage. I don't think it is related to the particular firewire disk, because it has happened to two different disk, both of which have worked fine before.
Is this related to Lion trying to do all the iOs tricks like restarting everything on restart? I didn't see these problems using my old iMac 7,1 and Snow Leopard with FCPX. I haven't seen any thread that has more specifics.
Any solutions out there?
