I am trying to install Lion OS X 10.7 over Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I am trying to install Lion OS X 10.7 over Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I get an error message: "There are currently other logged in users, who must be logged out before you install Mac OS X".
I switch to log out other users and deleted everyone listed. It still says: ....
There is no one else left; I don't know what to do now.
Bill

I don't know what you mean by "I switch to log out other users and deleted everyone listed" -- if other user accounts are on your Mac you just need to log them out, not delete anything -- but it may be that there are other user accounts you aren't aware of on the Mac.
Are you an admin user? Did you originally set up this Mac?

You have a Retina MacBook Pro, it runs OS X 10.7 or 10.8.
It won't run Snow Leopard (10.6) and Rosetta is only for Snow Leopard to run older PowerPC processor based programs when Mac's used to have those instead of the Intel processors they all have now.
So that software your installing is incredibly old, if you bought it, return it for a refund.
Also you don't need a anti-virus for OS X, Apple installed one for all OS X 10.6.8-10.8 users.
If you need anti-virus to clean the Windows files of their malware before passing it on, then the free ClamXav does the job.

  • Installing Windows XP Pro alongside Windows 7 & Mac OS/X Snow Leopard

I am running mac os/x snow leopard. I have partitioned my hard disk three ways:
Mac OS (journaled), Windows 7 and a third partition on which I intend to install Windows XP Pro. The 3rd partition is formatted NTFS.
My understanding is that if I were to insert a Windows XP Pro CD and hold down the C key the Mac would prompt me on which partition I wanted to install my Windows XP Pro.
However, that does not appear to happen.
I hold down the C key as soon as the Mac starts booting up and the CD sounds like its spinning up, but instead of being prompted to select a partition on which to install the Windows XP Pro the system defaults to the Windows 7 partition and it boots up into Windows 7.
Anyone got any ideas as to what is going?
    Thanks in advance.
    Eddie

    Hi Eddie,
have a look here at how-to TripleBoot a Mac http://guides.macrumors.com/Triple_Boot
    (substitute Vista with Windows 7).
Something may have awry when you did the partitioning.

  • Erased Mac OS Lion, But how can I reinstall Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    Greetings
I had erased Mac OS Lion, and I woudl like to Reinstall Mac OS X  Snow Leopard agine from DVD installer?
    I have MacBook Pro, i7
    have a nice day
    Suleyman

Infact, I didn't deleted any partition, I created a new partition, in windows, using Computer Manager, then I formated this new partition, after that, it seems that windows changed the other partitions !!
I boot my MacBookPro using a snow leopard Mac DVD, and click on Disk Utility.
    There is 3 partitions:
    Disk0S1 440 GB
    Disk0S2 60GB
    Disk0S3 2MB !!
partition type for three of them is Wondows_LDM, not Mounted, and no more info about other parameteres.
When I click on repair disk, or verify disk, it says: "reparing volume failed: Unrecognized file system"
Note: when I purchased my macbook pro A1278, The Original osx was Lion.

  • New HDD, trying to install Lion without disk utility or a mac (HELP!!!!!!!)

    Hello everyone,
Here follows my situation: my previous and precious hard drive died a few months back inside my macbook pro. I bought a brand new one and am trying very hard to find a way to install the os lion on it but I cannot seem to find any plausible way or answers for people stuck only with a Windows pc to do this work.
It is fair to mention that I no longer have my old installation DVD`s from Apple, although, I have the os dmg file to work with, an external hdd 1tb, dvd-rw´s, the lot.
Did use a software called Transmac but it would just somehow, not cut it for me, neither trial nor full version. My External WD hard drive is fully formatted into HFS+ by the way.
Also tried two virtual machines in order to use os lion on my Windows 7 and do the farly simple trick with disk utility itself, but those will not work for unfortunate people like me that are using AMD processors, once again, back to the drawing board.
Would any of you guys know a way around this?
Heard we could convert the dmg into iso and burn it using Nero and making it still bootable on Macbooks. Nevertheless, I have tried this option with two different combinations and it will still not boot.
If anyone could just light up my way I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you so much for your input here guys!
I've manage to do it using the same software I was blaming here on the post: Transmac!
So if you find yourself having the same trouble; persist!!!
Use macdrive 8 or later on windows 7 (or other windows OS if it works for you) and format the whole external hard drive or usb stick to htf+, unfortunatelly I could not find a way to format only a smaller partition on there.
Them go to Transmac, you need to have the full version in order for it to work and run as admin, the DMG file will them be expanded, in my case OS Lion was 3.50 roughly and expanded to 3.88.
Choose "format with image" (something like that, correct me if I am wrong, there should be only two options for it anyway) confirm all the following options and wait for it to do its trick.
Should anything go wrong with the writting procedure, go back and look into the small details one more time, two, three if needed.
I can safely say that this is the easiest method I have came across to create a bootable external drive for mac using Windows given the keys I had to work with.
    Best of luck!

  • I am trying to install Lion on my imac and it says it can't make a recovery disk

I am trying to install lion and receive a message saying it can't make a recovery disk.  I am using a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.  I do have bootcamp on it, but was never able to install Windows.

What happens when Lion installs is it creates a Lion Recovery Partition at the very bottom area of the drive, this is used to Command R boot into and perform Disk Utility Repairs and reinstall Lion from Apple's servers much like a 10.6 disk will.
So when you ran the Lion installer, it couldn't create this small partiiton, either because the GUID partition table (the map of your paartitions on the drive) is borked or there is data all the way to the bottom of the drive or OS X thinks there is.
You set up the bootcamp parittion, so run that and delete the Bootcamp partition as your not using it or Windows, once it's finished reboot and try installing Lion again.
I should warn you, Lion will not run your Rosetta based software or hardware drivers for external hardware, you may have to purchase all new versions. Not only that, hardware drivers may not be available for 10.7 thus rendering your third party printers, scanners etc useless.
Before you install Lion, you should consult this web page
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
to see if your current programs will break and when to expect a new version (likely paid)
Also you shoudl check your hardware and the makers site if there is a 10.7 compatible driver/software for them.
And once you think your ready to go to Lion, get a blank external powered drive and a free/donationware copy of Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your present (non-Filevault) 10.6 boot drive to the external drive.
Later if 10.7 doesn't work for you, simply hold the option key and boot off the 10.6 clone, use Disk Utility to Erase the entire drive (the whole drive!) and reverse clone 10.6 back onto the internal drive.

  • I tried to instal lion but my iMac says "install fail because hard drive is damaged and can't be repaired" and my only option is to restart and it immediately tries to download it again, won't let me back to any other screen.  Is there anything I can do?

I am trying to install Lion and I keep getting a fail message that says "Mac OS X could not be installed because the disk Hard Drive is damaged and can't be repaired". It only gives me the option to restart to try again but fails every time, an no other option.   Is there anything I can do?

I'll guess that you're upgrading from Snow Leopard? You should be able to start using your original install dvd by inserting the disc and restarting while holding the C key. Run Disk Utility from your install disc  and try to repair the drive. Then try the upgrade again.

  • Tried to install  lion on Macbookpro and getting a smart error message?

Tried to install  lion on Macbookpro and getting a S.M.A.R.T error message, software up to date and enough free memory

Do you have the 10.6.8 (or whatever came with the machine) install DVDs?
If so you need to boot up with those and run Dusk Utility off the DVD. Check the S.M.A.R.T status at the bottom of the Disk Utility window when you have the MBP's disk selected. If the status doesn't say  Verified the disk is on its way out its already dead. It needs to be replaced.
If it says Verified then do a Disk Repair on the MBP's disk.  Note any  errors you get and rerun Disk Repair until you get no more errors. If that doesn't happen the disk needs to be replaced.
All this cos I bought an iPad and wanted to use iCloud!
The install hasn't caused this. The disk was going no matter what. Its a good thing that you did the install and caught the error or else you might have lost your whole system.

install 6.5 before proceeding further. I coud not understand.
Just what it says - install os 10.6.5 before proceeding further.  You can either do so through Software Update or use the Combo update from Apple's download site.
You should repair permissions and restart your computer prior to updating and upgrading.

  • Trying to install Lion. says this disk is not enabled (journaled) - but when I look at the drive it actually is os extended journaled - Stuck! Have tried repair disk permissions and still no luck

trying to install Lion. says this disk is not enabled (journaled) - but when I look at the drive it actually is os extended journaled - Stuck! Have tried repair disk permissions and still no luck - any thoughts? Have spent two weeks trying to get apple support and itunes to help me get lion after a hard drive fail and now they are closed and I really just want to get moving!

Are you installing OS X Lion over an existing installation of Snow Leopard, or are you reinstalling?
First be sure you have everything on your system backed up. Then reboot with the Command-R keys held to get to the OS X Lion recovery volume. In here, select Disk Utility and use the First Aid tab in here to run a verification on your boot drive. If there are any errors, fix them and then try the installation again.
The next step would be to format the drive, so with your backup secured, use Disk Utility's Erase tab to re-format the drive to Mac OS X Extended (journaled), and then quit Disk Utilty and attempt the installation again.

    Hi ppg198,
Please try deleting the preference folder (in osx it's in "user/library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings" ) and then launch Illustrator and check.
