I am trying to install Real Player onto my MacBook Pro

Reason is toaccess RTE Lyric FM radio station. I have not had success. if anyone has had similar problems and can offer installation assistance i would appreciate it. thank you.

The site makes it appear you can only use Windows Media Player or Real Player, but that's not entirely true as the stream isn't copy protected and they provide a download url to connect too with other players.
http://www.rte.ie/radio/how_listen.html
Download the free VLC media player here (donate if you can)
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Now look on this page
See under the VLC player it says "play in stand alone player?"
If you click that it will download a small file like you see at the top of the picture (it will be in the Downlaods folder)
Now simply right click on that (after VLC is installed ) and open that file with VLC and the stream will play.
Else open it from in VLC via the Network connection.
Some other great free software for codecs you'll come across is
Perian and Flip For Mac, install these two (along with VLC) and your 99% of audio/video needs will be taken care off.
As long as the stream isn't copy protected you don't need Real Player or Windows Media Player, just a gimmick by that radio site. But deep down they want as many listeners as possible.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this and get the game up and running??

    Here are the Mac requirements:

    Mac OS X 10.6.1, 10.7.1, 10.8.1 or 10.9.1

Sounds as though that may be a Windows or other version.

  • Error when installing windows 8 onto my Macbook Pro

I am trying to download Windows 8 onto my Macbook Pro, it is a 2011 Model and is running OS X Lion 10.7.5.
I have created a bootable usb drive through bootcamp with a windows 64 bit iso.
I then go through the Bootcamp wizard, when the computer tries to install windows 8, it cannot recognise the bootable usb. It prompts me to enter a drive. Therefore upon restarting I press the alt key, which allows me to select EFI boot. Once I have done this, it starts the windows 8 wizard. However there is a problem with the partition. It says this partition is in the wrong format, so I press the format option however it still will not continue with the wizard. The exact error it says is as follows:
'Windows cannoy be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardwarre may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.'
I've been doing this for the last 6 hours to no avail, surely installing Windows 8 should not take this long. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, if anyone could help I would appreciate it greatly.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Dawn,
Since you're using Boot Camp you should post your questions in the Boot Camp discussions, found here:

  • I get an error message when trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. The message says "windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have anything connected to my computer. How do I fix this?

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. I went through the process of bootcamp telling it to install windows 7. Once the windows boot manager started an error message came up. The error message says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have a usb connected to my computer. I  am using windows 7 professional install disc. I  can't figure out what i am doing wrong. The same message keeps coming up over and over. Am I doing something wrong or is it something else?

Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.
"P-ram" stores some common information that is used in the background, your date, time, startup disk, etc, that you don't have to re-fill when you restart, it's a little different for each computer.

  • I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 13", when i run bootcamp it tells me that there is not a windows support software available for my computer. Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

  • I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)?

I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)? It does not have a CD drive.

If all else fails, try this.  i used to do it all the time before. might or might not work with the new office.
if you have access to another computer with a cd/dvd rom, copy the entire contents of the cd on a thumb drive.
insert the thumb drive in your MB and do the install from there.
However, if you have the newer version of MS Office, Bandit's suggestion is much better.

  • I tried to install windows 7 in my macbook pro late 2011 but i tried to create partions after it installed and it turn to dynamic disks and ican't access mac or win 7 what should I do i cant format it because i dont have a backup

I tried to install windows 7 in my macbook pro late 2011 but i tried to create partions after it installed and it turn to dynamic disks and i can't access mac or win 7 what should I do i cant format it because i dont have a backup

It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

  • Help require with installing Adobe Acrobat onto my Macbook Pro Retina.

Help require with installing Adobe Acrobat onto my Macbook Pro Retina.
I have successfully installed all of my creative cloud apps with the exception being acrobat.
I cannot print from Indesign to PDF.
I have unistalled, reinstalled and still no Adobe Acrobat.
I now have to go back to Windows 8 and create the PDF's there.
Any one know how to get around this issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Kelvin

OSX has effectively killed the ability to print to pdf, (print to pdf eliminates most of the "Rich features" of current pdf).
Export from InDesign, always, excpet for the 1% of the time where you know why print to pdf would produce a better result.

  • I'm trying to install indesign 2.0 on macbook pro - help!!!

I'm trying to install indesign 2.0 on macbook pro (10.6.8, 2.66ghz, corei7, 8gb). Everytime I try to install it from the CD, the install software crashes.  Any help would be really appreciated!
    thanks
    Jean

Is this ID 2 or ID CS2. I would not be at all surprised if ID 2 would not work or install, that is ancient software. It came our in 2002 and was the first version to support OS X. InDesign CS 2 came out in 2005. It is not intel native. It is quite long in the tooth. This is probably the last chance to update to CS 5.5 without purchasing a new version from scratch. That doesn't really solve your problem. I'd suspect either you have too much RAM or the problem is you might be booting using a 64-bit kernel. Can you check to see if your machine can boot with the 32-bit kernel.

  • Safari & Real Player Plugin on MacBook Pro

After installing Real Player (latest version from their web-site) on my brand new MacBook Pro (all udpates performed) some embedded real content does not play automatically and in fact the web-sites informs me that I would not have real player installed.
When performing the very same action on my other Mac that is a G4 machine it works perfectly. Also, when checking the pluging in the Safari Help section, real player does not show up on my intel based system while it does on the PPC machines.
    Any hints?
    Patrick

I'm trying to view webTV through MediaCentral & it says realplayer isn't installed. I just downloaded real & it still won't work, even with everything set to open using Rosetta. Anyone seen this?

  • Installing my CS6 onto my macbook pro that doesn't have a disc drive?

How do I install the CS6 program I bought onto my Macbook pro? It doesn't have a disk drive. I tried to download each individual trial version through Creative Cloud but then when I try to input my serial number, it says it's not a legitimate serial number but it's the one that was emailed to me.

Creative Cloud is not going to link the CS6 version of the software.  Try the following page instead:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html
You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.
    CS6: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html
If you continue to have issues with your serial number, you need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues.

  • I am trying to install windows 7 to my Macbook pro with bootcamp but every time I open bootcamp I am only able to check the first two boxes but not the third one saying "install or remove Windows 7", any solutions ?

Hi, I am trying to install Windows on my MacBook Pro with bootcamp. Every time I open bootcamp I am only able to check the first two boxes but not the third one saying "install or remove Windows 7". I did this before using the same computer and the same hard drive so I am not sure why this is happening now but did´t happen then. Any solutions ?

Was your Bootcamp info.plist manipulated to change any options?

  • CD Boot: memory overflow error! Trying to install Bootcamp / Windows 7 on MacBook Pro 2009 with external superdrive

    Hi all,
I'm trying to install Bootcamp on my machine.
I was running Parallels before but need Bootcamp in order to run heavy software on the PC side (e.g. Rhino/Maxwell/etc).
I have a Macbook Pro 17" from around 2009, running Mountain Lion 10.7.3.
Problem is, my internal CD Drive is broken and doesn't read discs, so it couldn't read the Windows installation disc (Windows Home Premium 7 64 bit - OEM System Builder Pack).
So, I rang Apple to try to fix it and they said it would be cheaper and faster to buy an external SuperDrive.
I explained that I wanted it to install bootcamp and they said, fine.
However when I bought the SuperDrive, it turns out its only supposed to be working with new Macbook Pro with Retina display, and other machines that don't have internal cd drives.
At first it didnt work, but then I found a helpful website which enabled it to work on my machine.
So I went ahead and started installing Windows through the BootCamp Assistant.
It partitioned my hard drive - success!
But then it turned into black screen, with message saying "CDBOOT: Memory overfloor error"
    Help please!!!
I suspect the problem is either:
    a) Old Macbook Pro can't boot from the Windows disk
    or
    b) The Windows OEM version is somehow not designed to work with Mac. I bought it secondhand off a guy, thinking it was the full version, silly thing to do!
Your thoughts and help is seriously appreciated!
Tomorrow I'm going to the Apple Store and also to buy a brand new copy of Windows, I guess.

This has been resolved. It turned out that in spite of the message at the end of installation - "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer restart the installation" Windows was installed successfully but the problem was the Bootcamp drivers, it could not read them(install them) from my original OSX Istall DVD and I thought that that the whole package was not installed successfully. I will copy the intructions here as well since this thread may attract lots of other people with similar problem who may think it was not a good installation. Here you go:
Ok, after 3 sleepness nights I have found a solution and finally have a working Windows 7 Ultimate. I hope this will be helpful for everyone having similar issues and not have to go through the same nightmare.
Right away after logging in Windows for the first time insert the original Snow Leopard Install DVD and if Windows does not read it or install any drivers after clicking on setup.exe do the following:
Right-click on Start » Programs » Accessories » Command Prompt
    Select Run as Administrator
Type cd /d D:, then press Enter
Type cd Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple, then press Enter
    Type BootCamp64.msi, then press Enter
If you do not how to right click before installing the drivers the following:
    Click on Start
Enter cmd in the search box
Instead of hitting the Enter key use Ctrl + Shift + Enter and will open a dialog box
Click Yes at the prompt and you will be running as an administrator.
If you do not have the original install DVD go the this link and follow the instructions(including the ones from the last comment):
