I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp

I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp but Boot Camp Assistant i showing an error that the disk cannot be portioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disc and use disk utility to format it was a single Mac OS Extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant Again.
I had already installed teh first time Windows on my MacBook Air and Mac Book Pro. Actually I had more issues to install on the pro than Air.
But my Macbook Air had an issue on November 2013, 3 weeks after buying it and Apple gave me a new MacBook Air but they only transferred the information on my mac and the windows partion was lost according to them, they could copy it in to my new MacBook Air. Now that I am trying to install my windows I can not access to the aprtion section and get the error message from above.
What can I do to to install it? I am using a 32GB USB and OEM Windows 8 at USB External Drive. The same I used before. I dont know understand what changed if I did it before?
Please advise..

I think there's some remmants left over from when Apple transferred stuff over. We can try a quick fix, but if that doesn't work, I think the only option is to clean install OSX and then install Windows.
open disk utility, confirm that you only have 1 partition (mac journaled)
restart and PRAM reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
restart boot camp assistant
Does it work?
If not, I would boot holding command+R, choose disk utility from the menu and completely erase your HD (formatting it as mac journaled again). Then, install OSX on this HD. Once OSX is installed, don't copy your files over from the backup yet. Instead, start boot camp assistant and see if you can get Windows installed. You can copy back your other files after we get Windows installed.

Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server. this is the message that i get a few days now that i am trying to install windows through boot camp to my macbook!does anybody knows what i can do????

You keep it on the usb stick for after you boot into Windows. From Windows you install the Windows Support software on the stick. Do you realize that you need to buy and install Windows? The Windows Support software you downloaded is only the Windows drivers for your hardware.
Read the Boot Camp installation instructions and help guides located here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

    Decent prices, there.
Things to note: 32-bit XP only recognizes 3.5 GB RAM.  64-bit XP Home recognizes 16 GB RAM.  64-bit Pro recognizes 192 GB RAM.
If you have Core2Duo or better processor you have 64-bit system.
Darn to heck ... XP is needed.  Sorry.

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I have been trying to install window 7 operating system through booth camp assistant, i will finish all the stages for window to complete installation it will hook. the installation cannot be able to complete and i really install windows on it, please i need an assistance on how to go about it.

Right now I have 6 different systems installed. Windows XP, 7, and 8 plus Linux Mint, Commodore, and OS X Snow Leopard (for old times sake), all running on Mountain Lion.
I recommend reading the user manual as it greatly helps getting through the steps, however an intuitive person should pick it up fairly easily.
Thanks to BobTheFisherman for the link.
There are other ways to get Windows on a Mac but I'm a big fan of open-source software.
Give it a try. You might like it or it may not be your cup of tea.

  • Cannot install Windows 8 on MacBook Air

I am trying to install Win 8.1 Pro with Boot Camp on a 13 inch MacBook Air (early 2014) with 4G RAM and 256G storage. The machine is a new purchase and the OS was upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite before attempting to use Boot Camp.
I have made a number of attempts at this using both a USB/ISO and DVD in an external drive (non-Apple). All attempts fail at the same point where Windows setup attempts to install on the BOOTCAMP drive. The message is “Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted to NTFS.” There are 4 hard disks listed
      Drive 0 partition 1:EFI   200 MB    173 MB freeSystem
      Drive 0 partition 2        53.4GB      0.0MB free Primary
      Drive 0 partition 3         619MB       0.0MB free Primary
      Drive 0 partition 4:Bootcamp 179.5GB     179.5GB free Primary
On returning to OSX after this the Air works fine and Disk Utility has a Macintosh HD (57GB) and Bootcamp (format is MS-DOS FAT32) (192.7GB).
    I have tried the following:
    1. Ensuring that there was only one external device attached ie the USB created by Boot camp
    2. Swapping the USB port ie have used both USB ports
    3. Trying to install Win from a DVD
    4. Different partition sizes
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions welcome.
    Bernard

    1. Select Partition4: Bootcamp. You should see advanced Options.
    2. Click Format and convert the partition to NTFS.
    3. Click Next.

  • Cannot install Windows 7 32-bit using Boot Camp

I have one of the new iMacs (late 2012) and I can't install Windows 7 32-bit using Boot Camp. Whenever I try to being the installation using the Boot Camp Assistant, I always get the following message: "Need 64-bit Windows installation USB drive or DVD. Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use an USB drive or DVD which contains 64-bit Windows". I have successfully installed 32-bit Windows on my Macbook Pro that is running the same version of Mac OS X and Boot Camp, but I don't know why on this new iMac it doesn't allow me to. Apple's documentation states that I should be able to install either 32-bit and 64-bit without any problem, but this is not the case here. I can't find anything about this problem/error on the Internet either. HELP!!!

Yes, circumstances do change but if Apple is, as they claim to be, serious about seamlessly migrating what is still a large and dominant market share of users from Windows, supporting 32 bit versions is not a nice to have, but a must have.
I don't see why users have to make excuses when there is a clear shortfall of what is promised.
In other discussions, there is talk of an opportunity for Apple to make a significant impact, as Windows 8 has deviated so much from the comfort zone of traditional Windows users. But to make that change, Macs have to support what is still a primarily 32 bit environment in the installed base.
As for the use of VMs, I had a tough time migrating out of Parallels 6 after an upgrade to Mountain Lion broke compatibility so IMHO it is not a long term solution unless you are happy to hand out $50 every 2-3 years just to support the same functionality.
    Use Virtual Box, it's free.
32 bit may have a reasonable user base but it's going away fast, if you must use 32 bit Windows and won't use a VM your choice is limited.
Buy a PC, or buy an older Mac.
The rest of your post is speculative and I won't go there.

Boot Camp doesn't install the drivers. You have the drivers on a separate USB device if you followed directions. Once in Windows connect the USB drive with the driver software. It should startup automatically and install the drivers.
You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable.

I try to install windows 7 on macbook air 13" 2014, OS X Yosemite, i used flash 16GB and windows 7 image iso. but i got this error. please help me to fix this.

Is the USB devices a USB2 or USB3 device? Please run Disk Utility Repair. In some cases, re-installing OS X (which does not modify your files) also addresses this issue.

  • Install Windows XP 64-bit on Boot Camp.

Can I install Windows XP 64-bit on Boot Camp (Tiger)? Where can i find all the driver for 64-bit? Thank you.

    Hi Amen,
XP 64-bit was never supported by Apple.
Therefor you are left to find the needed drivers all by yourself and for Apple-specific hardware you won't find any drivers at all.
Use the System Profiler in OS X to determine what hardware is in your Mac and then go to the websites for these hardware manufacturers to see/find drivers for XP 64-bit.
Personally I am not sure if all this hassle is worth the outcome.
    Regards
    Stefan

Use the Flash Drive that came with your computer it has Snow Leopard installed on it. If you lost it or cannot find it then call Apple and they will replace it for you, I don't know how much they will charge.
BTW when installing MS Windows please follow the directions whether you are using Boot Camp or a vitualialization solution (Parallels, Fusion, etc.) had  you done this you would not have had any issues.
