I am trying to open my macbook air but it has blocked and it makes a beep sound. It wont turn on. Is there something i can do?

Assuming this is not the normal startup chime, one beep means no RAM...so something in the path to the RAM has failed.
Best option is the Apple store genius bar to have the techs test the system and see what is going wrong.

I'm trying to restore my MacBook Air but it tells me I need to purchase OS X mountain lion which I have but it says I haven't and I obviously can't put a disc in because MacBook Airs don't take discs. What do I do?

Thank you Terence for your help.  I was able to restore my backup from my time machine ext drive to a new 1tb seagate ext drive.  so i felt sort of ok.  but yesterday that older ext drive i used for time machine wouldn't open! i called applecare and they trouble shooted with me and said it's probably a goner and data is probably corrupted.  it's only a few years old and i'm very careful with it.  my husband accidentally dropped my new drive last night -- i know, unbelievable, i was SO upset, poor guy -- but I'm so stressed with all of this.  i have 10 years of photos and videos.  so now i only have the one newer drive with a backup.  i have to buy another one today to backup again so i at least have two backups.  i tried to delete a ton of files last night to free up the 30 gb of space i need to get my full library back on my mac. i have 90gb free and deleted 7 years worth of photos i had on picasa that were in my "pictures" folder and also a ton or random photos and videos i had in that same pictures folder and thought that would give me the 30 gb but it hardly freed up any space at all!  do you know why that is?  all of this stuff is really a pain and really stressful.  thank god i did have a backup in the first place but now i am panicked the one i have left will somehow crash.  especially after my husband dropped the drive lastnight! it didn't fall far and fell onto a wood floor and seems fine, but after my older ext drive crashed yesterday -- and i lost my entire iphoto library a fewweeks ago off my mac -- i feel cursed.  any answers you have would be great. thank you.

  • I Just purchased a used MacBook Air but it has no OS, how can I re-load the OS?

I Just purchased a used MacBook Air but it has no OS, how can I re-load the OS?

It depends on which operating system was on it when it was released.  Older MBAs need disks or a special thumb drive to boot for OS recovery.
Let’s assume it is new enough that it has a recovery partition built in.  You can try this and see if it works and if it doesn’t work then it is old enough to need he aforementioned recovery media.
It is simple.  First you format the system disk and then you install OS X.
You will need to be in an area with a good wireless Internet signal.
    Boot in Recovery Mode:
Power it on and when you hear the bong hold down the Command and R keys simultaneously.
    Format the system disk:
    > Disk Utility
    > Select your system drive.
    > Partition
    > Partition Layout: 1 Partiton
    > Options...
    > GUID Partition Table
    > OK
    > Name: Macintosh HD
    > Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    > Apply
    > Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility
    Install OS X:
    > Click on Install OS X and follow the instructions.

Trying to restore my macbook air to factory setting, but got no recovery hard drive ?

If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, you need its original thumbdrive. If you don't have that, click here and order a replacement.
If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, restart the computer with the Option, Command, and R keys held down.

  • I just got a macbook air but it has no osx on it.

a freind of mine gave me his older macbook air. when i turned it on it went directly to the start up utility. i ask to reinstall osx , add my apple id. then it says i did not buy mountain lion from app store.so i go into disk util;ity and all i have is disk 1.. mac osx base system. and a further hd... 120.03 gb samsung hs12uhe media that has a file called mac os x install ESD.   howe can i get a osx back onto my mac? can i use my windows 7 pc?

The first thing you should do after acquiring a used computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, it should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.

I recently purchased a MacBook Air and was told by Apple that Keynote and Pages were compatible with MS Applications.. I have since tried to open a Powerpoint Presentation but it comes up with an error message and is not right. Help!

If there are fonts, transitions, builds, video or audio in the PowerPoint file that are not compatible with Keynote, it will either prevent the presentation opening or Keynote will substitute the settings causing playback changes.
I use Open Office to play and open any PowerPoint files sent to me, they play exactly as in PowerPoint.
Open Office is free, you can download it here:

I have a Canon MP640 and I am trying to connect my Macbook Air to the wi-fi how do I do this?  I have been able to connect through the USB no problems.

What version of mac are you running? Have you downloaded any of the drivers/software off the website yet? If not, you will need to download and install the CUPS Printer Driver and the Canon IJ Network tool.
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp640#DriversAndSoftware
Then, you will want to open and use the Network Tool to set up the network connection

  • Why am I having trouble running Adobe Flash Player 11 on my 2011 Macbook Air? I've downloaded and installed it repeatedly; yet when I try to open certain images online or play certain Youtube segments, I get the message, "You must have Adobe Flash 11..."

Why am I having trouble running Adobe Flash Player 11 on my 2011 Macbook Air? I've downloaded and installed it repeatedly; yet when I try to open certain images online or play certain Youtube segments, I get the message, "You must have Adobe Flash 11..."  My computer tells me it is installed and running.

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 5.
    1. If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, sign in to your YouTube account and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    2. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    3. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    4. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    5. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    6. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    7. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • After hibernation, when trying to login to MacBook Air, it does not accept my password. I have to shut off and then get prompted with the following: Mac OS X wants to use the "login" keychain. I put in the password there and it works. any suggestions?

after hibernation, when trying to login to MacBook Air, it does not accept my password. I have to shut off and then get prompted with the following: Mac OS X wants to use the "login" keychain. I put in the password there and it works. any suggestions?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Notes App won't open on MacBook Air

HI! I updated to OS X Mavericks on my MacBook Air a few weeks ago and I haven't been using Notes lately, so I don't know if not being able to open the app is related to the update or not.
Basically what happens is that every time I try to launch it, it "crashes" or closes right away.
I tried searching for the particular note I need and tried accessing it using Spotlight, but the same thing happens.
Anybody experience this before? Is there any way for me to recover my notes or open the app again?

You can't run iPad/iPhone apps on any Mac - it's a completely different operating system and you have to use applications designed for it. There is no equivalent app in the App Store which is available in your Applications folder, which is one way of obtaining Mac applications.

    Hi jenette,
If you are having issues using an HDTV via HDMI as an external display to your MacBook Air, you may find the following article helpful:
OS X: How to use multiple displays with your Mac in Mountain Lion and earlier
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5019
(Note: You will generally only see the arrangement option in Displays when you are configured to use the external display in Extended Desktop mode; there is no arrangement in Mirroring as both screens are showing the same image.)

  • When I open my MacBook Air the keyboard comes up along with the screen and does not stay still?!

When I open my MacBook Air the keyboard comes up along with the screen and does not stay still. So I need to hold down the keyboard while i open it. Other than that it works fine despite the fact that the fan noise some times is loud and sometimes it's getting warm at the base. I wonder if this can be fixed if i go to one of the apple branches.

Yes. Take the computer to the Apple store to have it fixed.
