If you had registered your CS3, you can get the serial number from your Adobe account when you log in through the Adobe corporate web site. Just go to My Products to find it in your account.
Adobe applications show you a truncated s/n to discourage software piracy. Legitimate Adobe s/ns have 24 digits.

Get their phone number from their main web pages (start by clicking the red Adobe icon on this page). Look for Contact Us links. The phone numbers don't jump out and shout at you but neither are they hidden.
When you get Customer Support on the phone, describe what you've been through and ask them nicely to make BOTH your allowed activations available to you once again.

Since the serial number provided was correct, the download started and completed. Once installed the system started to install the software. Again I had to supply the serial number. Where are you trying to get Flash Player from? Downloading is different from installing but many malicious websites offer to supply Flash Player as a means of installing malicious software and gathering personal information (e.g., passwords). You should get Adobe Flash only from Adobe and this link lets you download the full installer (Mac OS X (Intel) DMG) and run it locally. At that point OS X will ask for your password and if you've been using it successfully for other purposes (e.g., changing some items in System Preferences), it should work there too. Note that once Flash Player is installed, a Preference panel is installed too, and in it you can authorize Adobe to update Flash automatically.

Hello, your best bet would be to clone your drive to an external drive, which will be bootable.
Get carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD to the New one...

The very first MacBook 1,1s can actually run 10.6, which is updatable to 10.6.8, but will only run in 32 bit mode on yours.

Particularly of note for your situation:
External drive
This option requires more work than Home Sharing, but it creates a backup of your iTunes library on the external drive in addition to moving your content.
Notes before you start:
You can use most iPods as an external drive.
Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Because of this, you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod or external drive to move your music to a Windows PC. See iPod: How to determine iPod's hard disk format if you're not sure how your iPod is formatted.
Mac OS X can read Windows-formatted iPods and drives. This means there are many ways to migrate your information from your old Windows-based PC to your new Mac.
Mac OS X: To be sure external drives appear on your desktop, choose Preferences from the Finder menu. Be sure the options for "External disks" and "Hard disks" are enabled.

What does "it will not let me purchase it" mean exactly? Are you getting an error message?

I'm also getting the "invalid serial number", but I'm wanting to upgrade my 5.1 to 5.1.4 to take advantage of HDV 720p/24 support. Is the 5.1.4 update even an option still? I really don't want to be forced to upgrade to FCS2 and shell out $500, just to get this one feature that was included in a patch.
I went to the Registration page and it actually allowed me to register the serial number... (which I'm pretty sure I already had), but it still won't let me in to download any updates. Also, the email confirmation that was supposed to be sent has not arrived 20+ minutes later.
Very strange. I called Apple support and they estimated a wait time of 15 mins... ugh.
