I am trying to set Firefox as home page-browser. Please advise?

Words in the "Question" window above pretty much say it all; earlier this afternoon 10/10/2014 a really odd thing occurred I cannot explain clearly but it caused me to try to set Firefox browser (search engine) as home page...possibly I should have typed "Mozilla," but I do not quite know...
Detail: I should likely say that I am using W8.1 which I hate but am trying to learn.
Could someone please tell me how to go about setting FM or is it just "M?" Every article supposedly explaining the process starts out with "Open Mozilla," and truly I do not know how one does that in this new OS.
Someone tried to tell me that FM or is it just plain M is NOT a search engine browser thing. Hoping that person was wrong!
Please advise? TIA,
Omnigusted.

  • After closing firefox, the next time I open it my homepage has gone back to the default homepage and not the one I tried to set as my home page.

I've tried multiple times to set my home page to Yahoo.com
It works as long as I have Firefox open, but if I close Firefox and then re-open it, the home page has reverted back to the default home page, not the one I set.
This has not happened before updating to 3.6.10.

There are several possible reasons for it being reset, for details see [[Preferences are not saved]].

You cannot revert back to a previous iOS version.
Of the apps you've mentioned, here are their sizes my iPhone 5 under iOS 8.1.2 as reported under Settings/General/Usage/Manage Storage:
    Podcasts: 8.4 MB
    iBooks: 1.1 MB
    Health: 148 KB
I'm curious where you got the values of "approx 350 Mb each"? These apps are now embedded into iOS and AFAIK, their app sizes are not reported as user-downloaded apps are.

  • How can I set the default home page for all new users in Firefox 4

I'm trying to deploy FF 4.0rc1 in a corporate environment but I can't find a way to set the default home page or any other settings for that matter.
Is there a way to set the default home page for all new users and lock it so that the users can't change home page?
    Best regards
    Jonas

In Firefox 4 the template folder for new profiles (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile\
) doesn't exist. You can create that \defaults\profile\ folder and place a file user.js in it with the prefs that you want to initialize.
    See:
You can also use a mozilla.cfg file to set the default value for prefs.<br />
    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

  • I can set my default home page (when Firefox starts) but if I open subsequent tabs I get a blank page. How do I set my default home page for all tabs.

I set my default home page to AltaVista.com. This page comes up as expected when I start Firefox. However if I open a new tab I get a blank page. How to I setup Firefox to use my default web page for all subsequent tabs. This was an easy process in IE

Sounds like you want the New Tab Homage extension.

  • How do I set a "normal" home-page in Firefox for Android? (instead of the "awesome screen")

How do I set a "normal" home-page in Firefox for Android? I don't want the homepage to be the "awesome screen" (which I personally don't find to be very awesome - way too much going on in one page for a small smartphone screen).
I just want a regular home page that I can set myself. For example, in Firefox for my personal laptop, I've set my homepage Google.com. In Firefox on my work computer, I've set my homepage to our company intranet login. I really prefer and need this flexibility in setting my home page.
In Firefox for Android, if I go into Settings/Customize/Homepage , the only options I see for changing the home page is to de-select certain items on the "awesome screen". There's no option to set a URL address for a normal homepage. If I de-select/hide all the items on the awesome screen, I simply get a blank home page (no web page, just a prompt telling me to enter a URL address).
The other major browsers for Android allow me to set a "normal" home page. Firefox is my favorite browser for my laptop. I wish I could get it to work normally for Android. :( :( :(

hello betsy, at the moment such a feature is not implemented in firefox, but as a workaround you can add a bookmark to a site to the homescreen of your phone, which should have the same effect: [[Use bookmarks on Firefox for Android to keep track of your favorite websites]]

  • When I set up multiple home pages, I get two NEW pages when I click "home"

    Firefox 19.0.2 on XP
I have always had firefox set up to open two page, so my home page setting reads
    https://www.google.com|https://www.google.com
When I open Firefox, I get two tabs, both on Google. If I opened a 3rd tab I got a blank page. Just what I wanted.
Now, suddenly - when I open Firefox, I get my two home pages, but if I'm in Page 0 and click HOME, I get TWO MORE tabs open to my home page (for a total of 4 pages).
I read online to replace the pipe with %7C but that causes a -27 Service error.
Something changed inside FF in the latest updates ... how do I get the expected behavior back?

I have had the same original problem here as dbdataplus12 for a while now concerning having multiple tabs set as home page.
For my use, I have 4 tabs set up as home pages - each tab being set to a different web address, as I always use all 4 websites whenever I start any browsing sessions.
I had given up hope of trying to find an answer to resolve it or at least find out why it happens.
If it's just because it's the way FF works then so be it, and I'm stuck with FF doing something that, as far as I'm concerned, it shouldn't really be doing that way - but I'll have to put up with it anyway ;)
But having come across these replies to dbdataplus12 query it's prompted me to have to post here.
I can see why dbdataplus12 basically gave up on trying to get a clear answer to his query. "That said, I'm bored with this entire conversation - and now I will do what true Americans now do in cases like this - I will lower my expectations. "
So maybe I can explain better what I see as my problem with multiple home pages, what is happening within FF and why I think that it shouldn't be doing things that way, and what I think FF should be doing instead.
If it turns out that I'm just expecting too much from FF or the people who program FF, or maybe my expectations are too high to have something so obvious be able to be done - that just doesn't happen in FF, or maybe just plain wrong of me to expect certain things from a tool such as FF - then so be it ;)
As dbdataplus12 said " ... if I set up my home page option with TWO home pages (google | yahoo) then when I open FF I get two tabs with their respective pages loaded."
When I startup FF I get my 4 tabs opened to their respective web addresses. So far so good :)
I then use those 4 tabs during my session, and again so far so good ;)
The problem then happens when I wish to go to my home pages again.
On clicking the Home button, a new set of 4 tabs open up, each going to their respective web address as they are supposed to.
Why aren't the original, existing tabs used to go to the home pages?
I would have thought that it was obvious that when I click on the Home page button that the 4 tabs that are open go to the home pages.
If I had closed one or more tabs then I would expect FF to open new tabs as required, and use those tabs to go to the relevant home pages.
If I had opened new tabs myself during my session to visit other web addresses, I would expect that the first tabs be used to go to the Home pages - any other tabs that may be open would stay on their relevant pages.
That's what I would expect to happen.
Not for FF to just open up 4 new tabs.
As I say, to me, it's just plain obvious.
The first tabs onscreen should be used to open up any Home pages set up, so that whenever the Home page button is pressed those tabs are used.
And for FF to open up additional tabs, if tabs had been closed and are needed to enable all the home pages to be shown.
As I say, to me, it's just plain obvious.
So, if it's just that FF doesn't work that way - then so be it. I'll accept that as the answer and have to put up with new tabs opening every time I press Home ;)
But maybe someone, somewhere, could think about altering FF so that it uses existing tabs etc instead of just opening new ones. Maybe you could have a setting in the preferences to switch the option on or off to reuse tabs whenever the Home button is pressed.
Just a really, obvious idea ;)
Thanks for reading - and hopefully replying.
And hopefully taking the idea onboard ;)

  • How do I get new pages in new tabs to automatically go the same setting as my home page? Google is my home page, and I want the opening in new tabs to default to Google also.

Whenever I open a new tab, I want the new page to open to the same setting as my Home Page (in my case, Google). Instead it takes me to Bing. Even my Home Page reverts to Bing after I've set it to Google.

The default New Tab in Firefox is a blank page and there is no built-in option to change that.
*CTRL+left-click the Home icon will open a new tab to your set home page.
    **See --> http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
*This Add-on will open a new tab when clicking the new tab "+" icon (or when clicking New Tab from the menu) to whatever page you set in the options for the add-on:

  • How do I set firefox as the default browser in Windows Server 2012 Group Policy Editor?

Hello, I am unable to set firefox as the default browser despite multiple different attempts to do so using group policy.
    I have:
    - Set a registry command (targeted at 32/64 via a WMI query) to reset the opening command as shown below:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\http\shell\open\command
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -osint -url "%1"
    - Set a powershell logon script to run (that does run):
    firefox.exe -silent -setDefaultBrowser
Despite setting the above it seems the client computers browsers are not affected by the settings above. When the script runs or if I run the command above a UAC window pops up and requests that I accept the command (for the setDefaultBrowser) but even if I click yes as an administrator it does nothing.
Since GPO in 2012 has changed perhaps there is something that I am missing? Do I need to somehow disable Windows Internet Explorer from achieving default browser status?
Please do not reply if you will suggest that I use Internet Explorer Maintenance (since this function in GPO has been disabled since IE10)
My DC is Server 2012, my client computers are Win7 32/64.

The above reply does not take into account that I am trying to use GROUP POLICY EDITOR to make it the default browser.

  • Why does Firefox Support Home Page open automatically as my second tab, to right of home page, when I start Firefox, and how do I stop this?

I have newly installed Firefox 4 on my computer as part of re-installing my OS. Firefox now opens with 2 tabs: my specified home tab and, to its right, a Firefox Support Home Page tab. I suppose I did something to cause this, but how can I undo it?

Reset your homepage and make sure that only one tab is open when you set your homepage.

I am trying to make Yahoo my home page. I go to tools and put www.yahoo.com as my homepage and but once I restart my computer the home page goes back to something else.

    Hi drendah,
Out of curiosity, what page keeps showing up? You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]] and follow the steps to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].
    Hopefully this helps!

Hello EireReality. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Can I set a default home page when people use my router?
No, at least not that I'm aware of. Setting a "default home page" is typical feature of a web browser, not an Internet router.
