I found my name and number under her contacts on the new ipad. I chose to send a text message to MY phone number from HER ipad. When I recieved the message, it showed up as coming from my name... WHY?

If those email addresses are already in use somewhere else, you can get new email addresses for your kids. You can do this via your ISP, or by one of the free email services such as hotmail, yahoo, or gmail.

You will not be able to see what version you are running until the iPad is activated. It will be in Settings>General>About >Version when you can get to the settings app.
The slider bar that you are describing sounds like the screen lock side switch and that has no bearing on setting up the iPad or connecting to WiFi.
Why don't you try rebooting your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again and see if the iPad will recognize and join the network.

How do I transfer apps to another device I have new ipad for my wife and need to put her education apps onto her new ipad

I have just purchased a new ipad for my wife. On my ipad we purchased education apps for her to use , I have placed the apps on her ipad but when we open her itunes account to sync apps the computer will remove these apps and only leave her existing apps. How do I get around this problem. I have already paid for these apps and have not exceeded my number of devices. Glenn

A wireless card won't help. For set up, you need to connect to a wireless router, or via cable to a computer running itunes.

Hi if your other ipad is an old one the backup may not be compatible, so just set up and use the same Apple id & password You should get your Apps & data back but Apps will need updating Do setup over your Wifi. Cheers Brian

Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

So you're trying to set up your wife's phone as a new device? Just go to settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings, and you'll get a new device

Since all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.

You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one one library.

it doesn't find my network. When I type it in and give the password, it says unable to scan networks. I know my network name and password, but the iPad doesn't seem to find it. It doesn't even offer me "settings" yet.

You cant get into the settings until the iPad is activated so that's not an option. You can't do anything until it is activated.
Try rebooting your router. Unplug it for 30 seconds and then plug it back in again. If that doesn't work, activate using iTunes on your computer. Restart the iPad first, then plug it into your computer with the cable and iTunes should startup and take you through the activation process.
If you don't have a computer, you will have to take your iPad to another WiFi network and try there or take it to an Apple Store and they will activate it for you.

The only way they would all come over is if your wife had automatic downloads turned on in her store settings on the phone before she downloaded the apps. A popup for this option also comes up when you first sign into an apple id on the phone in the app store. If she didn't have that setting turned on, she'll have to download them one by one.
She could also try to sync them over from a computer that has itunes on it
