I just bought my new 5th generation today, its 30G and i know its video, so why do i get this error message?
Im authorized too. its kind of frustrating!

the ipod video only supports a few different file formats.. mp4 being the most popular.. if the file is not mp4 you need to convert the file..
you can find that software at www.versiontracker.com

  • "Video was not copied  because it cannot be played on this Ipod"...help!!

I recently tried syncing a video to my Ipod touch 2nd gen and it displays the message "video was not copied because it cannot be played on this Ipod" in Itunes. I have looked everywhere for an answer and nobody seems to have the same problem. I've tried restoring my Ipod and stuff, nothing seems to work. Can someone help?

Since upgrading to ios4 I have been having problems with my itouch. Now some pod casts will not download. Some, like BBC Radio 4 Friday Night Comedy, I have been downloading and playing for months without any problem. I now get the message "cannot be played on this ipod". I have not tried downloading through itunes but this doesn't really help me as I like to download podcasts at coffeshops etc as I want to listen to them. I feel that there are serious problems with ios4 that Apple is not addressing. Has anyone come up with a fix as I see others having similar trouble? I have already tried resting the itouch but all I accomplished was losing a lot of data from some of my apps.

This means iTunes can no longer locate the file in the location specified via the Get Info window for each individual track.  See the article for assistance.

  • New Mac, external music library: "Some of the items in the itunes library, including ..., were not copied because they could not be found"

New Mac Mini with Lion, external disk music library, redirected new iTunes to point to external disk, most songs are fine ( 90% )
    But...
"Some of the items in the itunes library, including ..., were not copied because they could not be found" to my iPhone 4.
Out of 4,800 songs, I have over 400 now which have "!" next to them in iTunes listing, but play just fine in iTunes.
After playing them, the "!" goes away.  Is there a way to fix all of these at once?
Note: If I could sort all of these in the list, to the top etc, then I could "down arrow, hit return" fast over and over... Any way to sort missing items to the top? Any way to get missing items all in one place, e.g. playlist?

Well, I went through and cleared all the !'s by just double-clicking on the songs. Took a while but worked okay...
    Until...
I logged out and back in. Now all the !'s are back, even though the songs still play fine.
Perhaps this has to do with an external disk coming online a bit later than iTunes would like?

  • Was not copied because it cannot be played on this ipod

I am getting this message when I try to put songs on my ipod.
I have had the ipod for over a year and have never had any problems until now.
I bought an album of iTunes Store, burned an audio CD,imported it into iTunes as MP3 and tried to put the mp3 files on my ipod, but I keep getting the message This song was not copied because it cannot be played on this ipod, This has never happened before, any help appreciated. This is the way I have always managed my purchased music, has something changed within iTunes to stop you from doing this??

I'm having the same problem with files purchased from Apple, burned to CD, then imported as .mp3 files. The problem just started recently. This needs a fix as it is very annoying and makes me want to ditch this IPod.
The two solutions proposed in this forum will work but...
Rebuilding the library is very time consuming when you have a library with 30 GB. The other work around of removing files from the library then reimporting them also works, but is very time intensive for multiple files. Is there a way to get word to the folks who can fix this??
Thanks to those who offered the solutions.

  • Songs cannot be copied because they cannot be played on this ipod

I'm trying to put my new styx cds on my ipod that I got for Christmas but when I try to drag them and put them on my ipod it says 'These songs cannot be copied because they cannot be played on this type of Ipod.' I've imported the CD and all that but it still says this.. HELP! PLEASE!

Sounds like the songs are in a format the iPod does not recognize. If you have these songs already imported on iTunes, select all of the songs (in this case the Styx songs) then from advanced menu in iTunes select convert selection to ACC, now once iTunes is done converting, re-sync the tunes back up to your iPod, and see if they are recognized.

  • Since I downloaded iTunes 11, I get a message when syncing my iPod that some of my songs were not copied because they are not authorized on this computer,  I go to Store Authorize This Computer, a message pops up telling me that this computer is already.

Since I downloaded iTunes 11, I get a message when syncing my iPod that some of my songs were not copied because they are not authorized on this computer,  I go to Store> Authorize This Computer, a message pops up telling me that this computer is already.

So I am unclear, did you purchase these songs or import them from a cd?
If you imported them and still have the CD try importing them again and see if they work the delete the others.
Or if you purchased from itunes re-dowwnload and see if they work. Maybe they are corrupted files and this should resove it.

  • The following NEF files were not imported because they could not be read.

Had to reinstall LR 3.3 and when importing NEF files from Nikon D90 the following message appeared,
"Some import operations were not performed.
The following files [NEF] were not imported because they could not be read"
Windows 7 user w/administrator rights.  Assume files are not corrupt.  Able to see thumbnails fine.

Move the files to a local drive, or use a card reader. Don't read directly from the camera if you are having problems.
Previews outside of Lightroom prove nothing, because most apps, including Explorer, just read the embedded preview made by the camera. Lightroom can be a good litmus test because it reads most of the image information and makes its own preview. During this process it is finding the file corrupt.  Lightroom does not write to proprietary files (in most cases) so if the file is failing to be read, then it is the file that is the problem, not Lightroom.
Make sure you inspect all the parts of the import chain to rule out a bad cable or something.

  • Certain MP3 Files not transfered because They Cannot Be Played on This iPod

I've been using iPods for awhile, and besides the usual iTunes for Windows glitches, I haven't had many problems. Yesterday I tried to transfer an album I had added to my iTunes library over to my iPod (will play in itunes, did not buy from Apple store, fits iPod codec requirements (256kbit MP3s)), and I recieved the message that the files will not be transfered because they cannot be played on this iPod. I tried updating everything, and then even reinstalling everything, and nothing worked. I cannot get these files that play perfectly in iTunes and other programs and fit the description of what works with an iPod to do just that, work with my iPod. Any suggestions?
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1.92 GHz, 1GB RAM   Windows XP Pro

First make sure your iPod software is up to date, the latest is Updater 2006-03-23. you can get it at http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Also you may want to go here to follow some suggestions on songs that play in iTUnes and won't transfer to iPod http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93867
Play the songs in another player and see if there corrupt or something
You may want to try a thrid party program on the net to convert the files, or you could do a 2 step process of having Windows media player convert them to WMA files, then opening iTunes and having iTunes convert the files from WMA to MP3 or whatever format you have iTunes to Import files. this converting my degrade the sound slightly, but atleast you would be albe to add them to your iPod and you most likly won't notice THAT much of a difference

  • Some items in the iTunes library were not copied because they could not be converted error

When I try to sync my iPhone with my Windows version of iTunes I get the error "Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPhone because one or more errors occurred."
The error for all 3 of the songs is: "iTunes could not copy "song name" to the iPhone because the file could not be converted."
The 3 songs are all songs that I have purchased from iTunes recently. One of them is just one song of an album that I purchased. If I go to my iPhone and download the songs from my purchased music section, they will download and play just fine. However, every time I sync the iPhone and iTunes I get the same error.
I am using iTunes10.6.3.25. I am running 6.0 iOS on the phone.
    Thanks!

I stumbled across this thread for the same issue.  I had 12 songs  that suddenly wouldn't sync from iTunes on my iMac to my iPhone 4.
I use iTunes Match and the missing songs were both purchased from iTunes and matched from CD's I had ripped.
Per Winnits I also ended up deleting them and downloading them to resolve the issue.
I took a screenshot of the error window ("Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPhone "My Name iPhone" because one or more errors occurred.") showing a list of the songs.  Then I disconnected my iPhone.
I then deleted each song (but NOT from iCloud) and sent the files to the trash.  The iCloud download icon immediately appeared and I clicked on it to download the song again.  A few of the song titles were the same, either from different artists or a couple of live and studio versions.  I deleted each one since you can't tell the specifics from the error message.
Then I reconnected my iPhone, let it sync and everything was fine, no more error message.  I've no idea what the issue was…perhaps a corrupt file, who knows?  I'm just glad it wasn't more than the dozen I ran into.
Hope that helps anyone that follows!

  • Movie was not copied because it cannot be played on this ipod

I have seen this posted a couple times but no one ever seems to post a solution.
I bought a couple tv shows from itunes. I try and sync my iPhone4 running ios5, and I get an error that says "**** was not copied to the ipod ** because it cannot be played on this device".
A couple posts mentions to go to Advanced and "Convert to iphone/ipod" but this option is grayed out and not available?
Is there anything I can do? Is there a way to find out this is going to happen before buying these?
    Help Please!!

Or you talking about making sure the movie is SD version?
    Yes.
Make sure you are trying to load an SD (standard definition) version, not an HD version.

  • Some the items in the Itunes Library were not copied because they could not be found

I keep getting this error message when I try to sync ringtones to my Iphone 5s. I have 8 total, but 3 of them won't sync over. Itunes says it can't find, them, but I've checked a thousand times that the files are in the Itunes media>Music>Unkown Artist>Unknown Album. All 8 are in there, but only those 3 don't work. Is this a bug?

Oddly enough it could be a corrupted photo cache that causes this error message.  The message may clear up if you delete the "iPod Photo Cache" folder in iPhoto, see this thread for info:

  • Videos "not copied because it cannot be played on this iPod"

I'm getting this message with purchased videos. They download and show up in my library, but I can't sync them to my iPod. Purchased music syncs fine. I also can't view them directly in iTunes on my Mac. HELP!! I have hundreds of dollars worth of TV shows!

The OP indicated that he's also unable to view the videos on iTunes. Are you also having that problem? If so, go to
    HD/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences
Trash the com.apple.iTunes.plist file. This file stores the iTunes prefs and, when corrupted, weird things happen. A new plist will be automatically created the next time you start iTunes but it will have default prefs.
Now, the iPod... Try the basics.

  • [Podcast] was not copied because it cannot be played on this iPod

This has been happening for several months, and it's getting annoying. Only two sets of my video podcasts won't transfer to my iPod classic.
Is there any way to fix this? I'm surprised there is no update yet...

To add to what planb77 says, video Podcasts can be in any one of many different formats and not all of those video formats will play on iPods. So there is no (Apple) update "to fix it" on the way.
Planb77's suggestion is that you convert the video to an iPod friendly format using the iTunes convertor that is in iTunes. (The video will be stored as a staright forward video - not a Podcast.)
But each conversion takes some time and it doesn't always work. In this case, or if you feel so inclined, planb77's other suggestion (yes, I too noticed that he/she said he/she had only one suggestion. It's all part of the master plan I suppose. ) is that you contact the Podcast's producer to let them know that you cannot play their Podcast on your iPod. Believe it or not, they may not be aware that this is the case unless you tell them. (Of course, even if they do, they may choose not to do anything about it.)
