I am trying to transfer iTunes purchases from my iPad to my computer before I upgrade to iOS5...

It gets to "starting sync" and then sits there for hours.  I have tried several times, rebooted computer etc... I haven't lost anything yet (and don't want to), but I'm getting frustrated and don't know what to try next... any ideas?

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
- Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/
- Phoneview - http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/
- MusicRescue - http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/products/musicrescue/ - Mac & Windows
- Sharepod (free) - http://download.cnet.com/SharePod/3000-2141_4-10794489.html?tag=mncol;2 - Windows

Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining a backup of your media on a computer backup.

If you see Devices in the big list on the left-hand side of iTunes, it should show the name of your iPhone right below it. You can right-click (or hold ctrl and left click) on the name of the iPhone there, and choose "transfer purchases from iPhone".
If you're on iTunes 11, you won't see the big list of the left until you go to the View menu at the very top (where you see iTunes/File/Edit/View/etc) and choose Show Sidebar. Then do the same thing: right-click or ctrl and left-click on the iPhone's name below Devices and "transfer purchases from iPhone".
It'll ask you to authorize the computer for your Apple ID if you haven't yet; to do that, you just type your Apple ID and password in when it asks. If it says you are not authorized but doesn't automatically give you an option to do so, then you can go to the Store menu at the very top and choose "authorize this computer".

  • Can i transfer itunes purchase from one of my accounts to another of my accounts?

can i transfer itunes purchases from one of my accounts to another of my accounts?

No, all iTunes purchases will remain tied to the account that downloaded them, they can't be transferred to a different account (nor can accounts be merged).

check the lower right corner of the iTunes window
if you don't see this while the homeshared library is loaded, home sharing hasn't been set up properly.
If I shut down itunes in the pc the library also disappears from the imac.  Am I doing something wrong?
    no.
    that's expected behavior.

  • How do I transfer my purchases from my iPad to my new Mac iTunes?

So I recently bought my new MacBook Pro (Retina 15inch) for school. Over the years I have bought tons of movies and tv shows and a lot of music, and now I need all of my purchases on my computer. I've read some of the older discussions but none of them have worked for me. I need help transfering my old iTunes purchases from my iPad to iTunes on my computer. (I am already at school and do not have my old computer with me, so transfering from computer to computer isn't an option.)

  • Updated to iTunes 11, all my playlists are gone, is there a way to save /transfer the playlist from my iPad to the computer?

    Hi,
I have just updated to iTunes 11, once I opened itunes I noticed all my music, books, programs and app's had disapeared. Luckily for me I have everything backed up, except for my playlists.
Is there a way to save /transfer the playlist from my iPad to the computer?
And is there a way to backup the playlist for next time I need to restore my computer or update Itunes.
    Thanks

And is there a way to backup the playlist for next time I need to restore my computer or update Itunes.
Your playlists and other info is stored in the "iTunes Library..ITL" file in your My Documents\My Music\iTunes directory, if you regularly back up that file you are safe. Also just to be sure also backup the iTunes Library.xml which is located in the same directory.

No, just a reminder that you should do so beforehand, which you have already done.

  • When I try to transfer over songs from my iPad to my computer it says that i need to authorize my computer, but my computer is already authorzie. Why is it doing this?

When I try to transfer over songs from my iPad to my computer it says that i need to authorize my computer, but my computer is already authorzie. It also says that some of my purchased items are not authorized for them on my computer. How do i authorize these items?

    Hi slt2014,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would try authorizing your computer again, even if it seems like it is authorized, by following these instructions:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
If this does not resolve the issue, you can also try downloading your purchases directly on your computer by following this:

I want to transfer the music from my iPad, most of which is not purchased from iTunes, to the new computer (PC) but getting a message stating that the device is syched to another computer.  Anyway to make my new computer the home computer and transfer the non-iTunes music without erasing the content of the iPad?

  • Trying to transfer Itunes Library from Windows to OSX.

I'm trying to move my library from my old Windows PC to a new MacBook Air. I've seen the information on "just transfer the itunes folder" which sounds fantastic... But will that work as simply for a cross OS transfer. Especially, since the directory structures are radically different.
Any thoughts on how to make the transfer? I can always import things and hopefully save and import playlists... but that will take AGES...
    Any help would be appreciated.

I just want to know how I can transfer those purchases without the device itself onto my current computer. It's the same account too.

Authorize your computer in iTunes, log in to the iTunes Store with your Apple ID and select "Purchased" from the Quick Links side bar on top right of iTunes window. Go through all the tabs to download again for free.
