I am trying to update my MacBook Pro...

...and when I click update, it just says "waiting..." next to the update tab. It won't let me shut down the computer until the update finishes. Problem is: it never even starts, just says waiting until it times out. Even when that times out, and I try to shut down, it still says I can't until the update is finished.

Hold the power button down and force the hardware to shutdown
The servers are slammed, a update won't install unless it's completely downloaded which it's not.
So your safe to force the hardware shutdown and try again later, it won't harm your machine any.

  • I tried to update my macbook pro, the screen is now frozen. My track pad hasn't been working for awhile and my disc drive is broken. IS there anything that can be done without buying a new laptop. It was bought in 2009

My track pad has not been working properly for awhile and my disc drive it damaged. I went to update my macbook pro to maveric and it is now frozen and not allowing me to click anything. Is there anything that can be done to fix this without buying a new one? Its from early 2009

    ShelbyMackenzieLynne,
when you say that your disc drive is damaged, do you mean your MacBook Pro’s hard disk drive, or do you mean its SuperDrive (the CD/DVD drive)?
When you’d updated your MacBook Pro to Mavericks, did the installation succeed, and subsequently freeze up? Or did it freeze up during the Mavericks installation?
Which version of OS X was installed on your MacBook Pro before you’d installed Mavericks?
Are you currently able to boot into the Mavericks recovery partition? To see if you can do so, hold down a Command key and the R key while starting up your MacBook Pro.

  • Hello Im trying to update my macbook pro from itunes version 10.5 to the latest version. can anyone tell me why I'm unable to update?

    Hello
My macbook pro is version MAC OS X V.10.5.8 and I'm trying to udate my itunes from10.6.3 to the most current version. However, when I try to do this I cant seem to be able to find the newest version of itunes- I'm receiving the message that I'm up to date with the latest version.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are for Leopard. To upgrade iTunes you first need to upgrade OS X. Start with Snow Leopard. You can upgrade further should you want to. But Snow Leopard will allow you to install the latest version of iTunes 11.1.5.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • HT1237 Trying to update my Macbook Pro 6.2 but the firmware doesn't seem to work.

Trying to update the EFI version 6.2 for Macbook Pro but it won't install. Complaining that it isn't for this computer. Checked the systems info and everyting.

    I don't see a EFI 6.2 mentioned at the page you reference - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237.
Which model MacBook Pro do you have? If it's a 6,2 MBP, then you'd need the mid-2010 update (if you really need it) and that would be EFI 2.6.
Go back to the page and see what I'm writing about. It may be that your machine is simply not in need of the EFI update.

  • I am trying to update my macbook pro at the app store and I type in the correct admin name and password and it says its wrong. Help!

I made sure my name and password is all correct but when I put it in, it shakes indicating that something is wrong.

If you are trying to restore a 10.7 MacBook Pro to its original out of the box state, erase/install 10.6 using the original discs that came with the computer.
If you are trying to clean the 10.7 MacBook Pro or MacBook Air without reverting to a previous OS, then erase/install 10.7 using Lion Recovery.

  • I am trying to update my Macbook Pro to OS X Mountain Lion. Paid for it and not it is not downloading. Anyone know why?

Why am I not able to download OS X Mountain Lion Software on my Macbook pro?

If you can catch it once the download is finished, but BEFORE it starts to install (there will be an "OS X Installer" window opening up), then you could make a copy of that installer so you don't have to wait that long again if you need to reinstall for some reason. To do that, quit the Installer and go find it in your Applications folder. Make a copy of it and park it someplace safe (another folder, external disk); then double click the Installer and go ahead - the Installer will self destruct once it's finished.

  • Hey you guys I have a question. I have been trying to update my MacBook Pro to OS X Mavericks and I get nothing.

I go into the App store and it says it is downloading but it is not. I have tried for 3 days already and I do not know what to do. My brother got me my computer 4 years ago. When I go under About this Mac it says this: Mac OS X Version 10.7.5 Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. If anyone can help me I would glady appreciate it.

    Evie,
Mavericks is a 5.3 GB download, so it will take a while for a download of that size to complete.

  • Can't update my MacBook Pro

Hello. I am trying to update my MacBook Pro and it doesn't seem to work. I'm using OS X 10.6.8. I follow all the logic steps: search for updates and restart the computer. But everytime I restart it, nothing's changed. Still have the same old version of all programs that I wanted to update. Could anyone help me?

If your system is at 10.6.8, then that's the last version of Snow Leopard that was released and there are no more updates for it.
As for applications, you can set most current apps to automatically check at start up (or whenever you choose) for updates. Again, if there are no updates available, you won't be notified.
What types of updates, or which applications, are you looking for updates to?

  • I was trying to update for macbook book pro. and i restart then it's loading for 4 hours

i was trying to update for macbook book pro. and i restart then it's loading at the lock screen for 4 hours

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

  • When trying to update and install Mountain Lion's 10.8.3 update from 10.8.2, the App Store will restart my computer but not install the update.  Any ideas on how to update my Macbook Pro 15" from 2008?

I was wondering, does anyone have an idea on how to update my Macbook Pro 15" to Mountain Lion's 10.8.3 from Mountain Lion's 10.8.2 version?  When I attempt to use the App Store, it will restart my computer but it will not install the update.  The update also still shows up in the App Store as available and when going to "About my Mac," it still shows the current version being 10.8.2.
    Computer:
    Macbook Pro 15" Aluminum Body
    Purchased Late 2008
    Current OS: Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Original OS: Leopard

  • HT1338 I updated my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and now it is starting slow and opening with some of the programs. How can I fix the problem?

I updated my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and now it is slow in starting up and loads a number of probrams. How can I fix the problem?

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the slowness still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.
    Reboot normally and test.
