I am trying to upgrade iPhoto from a .dmg file ???

I am trying to upgrade iPhoto 9.4.2 to 9.4.3 on a Mac Mini with Mountain Lion.  When I run the iPhoto9.4.3Update.dmg file, I get the alert:
The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store.  Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available.
When I close the alert, it shuts down the update.
Since at our location our only option to get on the internet is via a 3G modem with a data cap of 5 GB per month, we take a laptop into the local library, hop on their wifi, and download dmg files for large upgrades like iPhoto (in this case, 766 MB).  This has always worked before - what is different here?
Since we were near the end of our data month and still had a GB left, I then tried the software update route from the Apple menu on the Mac mini.  It started downloading the 9.4.3 update which was only 177 MB.  2 hours later it had just finished the download and suddenly continued onto another download (still in the iPhoto upgrade) of a 1.2 GB file.  So I aborted.  So my 2nd question is what was happening here.
And my 3rd question is what to do next?

Evidently there was more than one update listed for your Mini.  Next time launch the App Store app in your Applications folder and log in with the Apple ID used to purchase your Mini. Click on the Updates folder and look for available updates.  There you can select one at a time for installation.
Look in the Download folder in your Home folder to see if the 9.4.3 update is there.

  • Upgrade iPhoto from 8.1.2 to 9.6

I need to upgrade iPhoto from 8.1.2 to 9.6 for iCloud use.
iLife "11 is no more available, and I am afraid to loose my picts, or the key words and faces, if I install the 9.6 version and if I need to amalgamate or import my picts in the new version.
I'm distressed because I entirely do not trust iPhoto backup with Time Machine since Maverick upgrade...

I need to upgrade iPhoto from 8.1.2 to 9.6 for iCloud use.
This means you must first update your OS from 10.9 to 10.10. Thereafter you can upgrade your iPhoto to v9.6
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

  • HT1577 I am trying to upgrade iPhoto to v9.4.2(4+) and the message says library needs to be upgraded and its just stuck there for 6 hours

I am trying to upgrade iphoto to v9.4.2(4+) and it has frozen trying to upgrade my large photo library

hello, it sounds like the library is damaged.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Disk Utility 10.4.3 writes Mac-only CDs from older .dmg files

I have various .dmg files of my CDs containing pictures from various trips. Last week I burned a new CD from a .dmg file from late May. The CD was not usable on Windows - no error messages, didn't show up with the CD name under D:, didn't pop the XP window asking what to do with a CD containing photos, nothing. Works fine on Mac. So far the only thing I've noticed is that Get Info says it's "Mac OS Extended (Journalled)" instead of "Mac OS Extended". Also, the .dmg file shows a modification date of last week, though I did not (intentionally!) modify it.
If I copy the folders to the desktop, put a new CD in the drive, and let Finder write the CD, it's fine - both Mac and Windows can read it, it's "Mac OX Extended" again, etc.
Is there a way to verify (or disprove) that the working CDs are multi-OS and the failing ones aren't? I haven't tried Toast, but I'm not sure it would tell me for sure.

There was never an answer, but 10.4.3 is no longer of great concern!

  • How to install leopard from a DMG file instead of DVD

How to install leopard from a DMG file instead of DVD, When i open this file, click restart, NOTHING happened!!!!!!

Use Disk Utility to restore the DMG to a blank partition, then use the Startup Disk preferences pane to reboot from that partition. Why not just install from the DVD, though?

  • How do I reinstall an Adobe application from its .dmg file

I have inadvertantly deleted the icon to open Adobe Dreamweaver, however I do have a .dmg copy of the application. How do I reinstall Dreamweaver from the .dmg file?

Where? From the Dock or the Applicaitons folder?
The Dock icons are "aliases" or "shortcuts" to the original files  or programs, in this case in your Applications folder.
Just drag the Adobe Dreamweaver icon out of the Applications folder and position it on the Dock in the old location, it will make another "alias" and the original returns to the Application folder.
If it's gone from your Applicaiotns folder, look in your Trash can and put it back in the Applicaitons folder
If not there then open the DMG by double clicking on it and double clicking on the installer file to reinstall it.
You'll have to update the program and likely enter your serial again.

  • Trying to upgrade iPhoto library

I’m trying to up prepare a v7 iphoto library for use in iphoto v9.5.1. When I try open it I get an error message that says “To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple.” Then I have to quit or learn more. I downloaded the library upgrader from apple, but when I try to upgrade I get the message “Your library can now be upgraded in the current version or iphoto. Do you want to launch iphoto?” My only options are to quit or launch iphoto. When I launch iphoto I’m right back where I started, with it telling me to use the upgrader. I’m stuck!

Yes, I ran the upgrader. That's what gave me the message “Your library can now be upgraded in the current version or iphoto. Do you want to launch iphoto?” It wouldn't actually upgrade the library, just forced me to open iPhoto which in turn gave me the original error message. I did some more internet research and found a 3rd party program called iPhoto library manager which I used to rebuild the iPhoto library and that worked like a charm. I still feel like there should be a more straightforward way to do it within the iPhoto software though.

  • Unsupported File System Error When Trying To Upgrade iPhoto Library on QNAP

I upgraded to iLife11 from iLife08. My iPhoto Library is stored on a QNAP server and has worked just fine for many years. When iPhoto[9] tries to upgrade the library it gives an error "The library could not be opened because the file system of the library's volume is unsupported."
Other iLife11 applications such as iMovie recognize files from the QNAP just fine.
I have tried moving the original iPhoto Library into another folder and then creating a new library on the server but get the same message.
I have upgraded to iPhoto 9.0.1 already.
    Any ideas?
    Appreciation In Advance.

my NAS backup is going to see the whole disk image as a 'new file' and
I don't think that will be the case if you use a sparse bundle disk image.
+A sparse bundle is essentially the same as a sparse disk image. The difference is that a sparse image is one giant file on your disk and a sparse bundle is lots of small files (8 megabytes each). They work and look the same way, but you can right-click on a sparse bundle, select "show package contents" and see the individual 8 meg sections.+
If the backup software can do incremental backups and work on packages I think it will work on the sparse bundle disk image. Might be worth a try.
    Happy New Year

  • I am trying to access iPhoto from my MacBook Pro on my iPhone 5s

I am trying to access iPhoto on my iPhone 5s from my 2008 MacBook pro. I have synced both devices, have set up iCloud, have downloaded iOS7 and Mavericks, and have photo sharing and photo stream turned on on the iPhone. I am using iPhoto '08, version 7.1.5. There is a newer for purchase version of iPhoto. Could it be that I have to buy this update to connect from my iPhone? I just bought the iPhoto by Apple app but it only allows me to view albums and photos that are already on my iPhone.

Thanks for your reply. I am still ever-hopeful this can be done. Checking the iPhoto '11 site, I see this info:
-View and automatically import recent photos taken on your iOS devices
-Automatically send newly-imported photos to all your iOS devices
-iPhoto '11 works with iCloud Photos, so the photos you take on your iOS devices automatically appear in iPhoto,
I ask this respectfully. If indeed iPhoto version 9.5 is iCloud friendly, why would it not be accessible from my iPhone? It seems to me that the mission of iCloud is to effect the "commonality" between iPhone and the Mac - and other Apple devices. Do you know the technical reason for this or am I going to have to accept that it simply won't work? <grin>

  • Trying to upgrade OS from 3.1.3 to 4.0.2 but itunes failing me! :-(

I am trying to upgrade the OS on my iPhone from 3.1.3 to 4.0.2 using itunes (9.1.1). When I connect my iPhone and click update I get a message telling me the version of itunes is the current version. My iphone is connect, I am on iPhone sync page and all the other information on the page relates to my iPhone.
Can anyone out there give me any advice or help?

Not to be a wiseguy. But DON'T do it. I, like many (most?), have had numerous problems and performance issues with my 3GS since the upgrade to 4. The new features you may gain are not worth it...At this point. Multitasking, Camera zoom etc..Not a fair trade for losing like 30-40% battery life and reception. I upgraded and the first day or two it was kind of neat..But it has gotten worse and worse. And if you decide the same...You cannot go back. With a 3G you can...But not with a 3GS. I would at least wait till 4.1 comes out next week.
