I am trying to use tab groups. My problem is that everytime I restart Firefox, any tab groups I made in the previous session are no longer there. How do I stop this from happening?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Opening a new tab opens my history on the left. How do I stop this from happening?

when opening a new tab in safari, it automatically opens my history in a column on the left. How do I stop this from happening?

IF you change the view of the left column to "Bookmarks" or "Favorites" this is what will be shown rather than "History".
There is no way to prevent this column from being shown but it can be dismissed by touching the "Book" icon at the top-left of the screen.

Are they coming from one forum (e.g. this one, 'iTunes Store'), or from just one thread ? If one community then what shows at the top right of the screen under the Notifications box for the forum - if it says 'stop email notifications' then click on it.

  • Some webpages resize the window but when the window opens in a new tab, the entire firefox browser is resized. How do I stop this from happening?

This usually happens when the window is resized in order to fit the smaller content/intention for a webpage.
I would like Firefox to ignore the window resizing (down sizing) commands when opening a window in a new tab and just display the window in full size.

Go into ''Tools > Options > Content'' and next to where it says ''Enable JavaScript'', click ''Advanced...''' and then untick ''Move or resize existing windows''.
This is the only way to do it. I believe there is a bug filed to prevent all sites (by default) from resizing the window if there are more tabs open, but I don't think it has been fixed.

is there a separate setting for default program associations in T bird or Firefox?
I have set the association correctly in control panel, yet the problem persists in Thunderbird.

Do you organise your email into separate folders, or do you just let it accumulate in the Inbox?
I would strongly advise you not to let it sit in the Inbox.
When you see this happening, try right-click on the affected folder, select '''Properties''' then '''Repair Folder'''.
Large folders (actually, a folder in Thunderbird is stored as a file, so it is sensitive to file size limits set by the underlying file system) can be problematic. This is one reason not to let messages collect in one folder. I use Thunderbird's Archive folders so that accumulated mails over several years can happily coexist because they are effectively stored in many small folders. No single mail store folder then exceeds the 2GB or 4GB sizes that have been known to stress the OS. I appreciate that current builds of Thunderbird and a modern 64-bit OS should be able to cope, but practically I find it slows down when given huge files, so I err towards a pragmatic solution; a large number of not very big files.
Archives are searchable, and a Saved Search folder can give you a virtual composite folder allowing access to the entire Archive.

  • Every time I press 'enter' while using firefox, 2 or 3 new tabs open up with a website that I've never used. How do I stop this from happening? Thanks :)

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

  • I have "show a blank page" selected but since I've downloaded the latest version it always restarts with whatever pages and tabs I had open in the previous session. How do I fix this?

I have just reloaded and no difference

If you do not use "Show my windows and tabs from last time" then make sure that Firefox closes properly to prevent session restore from reopening a possibly crashed session.

  • When I perform a search in the card catalog (on the website I am designing for our library), it opens the search in two tabs. This only happens on the homepage and only in Firefox. How do I stop this from happening?

I have tried adjusting the code and stripping it down, but nothing seems to work. When I preview the website in Internet Explorer, it works just fine.

Try asking in the Mozilla Development forum over at MozillaZine. <br />

  • A new tab opens up everytime I do a search on my home page, how do I stop this from happening? I've checked the browser.search.openintab and the value is set to FALSE, any ideas?

I just want all my searches to stay on the same tab that I already have open.

The browser.search.openintab pref applies to the (Google) search bar on the Navigation Toolbar and not to search bars on web pages.

  • When I use "Email link" in Firefox, the Outlook message default formatting changes (font, font size, paragraph spacing) - how can I stop this from happening?

In Outlook, my default message format includes the following:
    Font: Arial 10pt font
    Spacing: Before: 0pt, After: 0pt
When I email a link from Firefox, a new message opens, which has the following formatting:
If I type anything before the URL, the formatting is:
    Font: Arial 10pt font
    Spacing: Before: 0pt, After: 0pt
If I type anything after the URL, the formatting is:
Font: Times New Roman 12pt font
    Spacing: Before: Auto, After: Auto
This doesn't happen with Internet Explorer - when emailing a link, my default message format is retained.
Since I email a lot of links for my job, and I prefer to use Firefox, this is a pretty annoying issue!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Michelle
    Outlook 2007
    Firefox 36.0.4

From Firefox, I click on "File' and then 'Email link'.
This results in a new Outlook message opening automatically, with the URL copied into the body of the message.
I then add my own text, see the screenshot image. That's where the formatting problems come in!
    Cheers,

how do I STOP this from updating to NEW VERSION? I am getting tired of uninstalling and reinstalling every 10 uses. Ver.10 is Garbage!!!!!

''[Profanity removed by moderator. Please read [[Forum and chat rules and guidelines]], thanks.]''

This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
