You normally need admin rights to be able to install/copy things into the Applications folder - I'm guessing the current user you are using isn't an admin?
Most people set a specific downloads folder somewhere on their drive to keep all the 'clutter' together, but each to their own

Unable to Download any Files in Safari.

Hi, Hopefully someone might be able to help with this one.....
I tried a trial verson of speed downloader and then uninstalled.
Ever since then I cant download anything through Safari.
I have followed the directions at removing speed downloader and got a message saying it had uninstalled it (even though it didn't look like it) and to then delete the files and log/login.
Still no luck..
So I then searched and tried removing all files including the package contents of the restored files,
then the system disk/Users/"userid"/library/preferences/com.apple.safari.plist & RSS.plist
And any other files that had speed downloader or the company name yazhot or something...
Still not able to download anything through safari......
Help ... Any suggestion??

I am hardly a guru, but deleting preference files is a fairly standard troubleshooting step.
I hate to preach, but the problem stems from installing third party haxies/enhancers. I cannot enumerate how many times people have caused themselves problems by installing third party "stuff" in Safari. Pardon the sermon - this post is mainly for other people who read this thread.

1a) If you have the AppTab(the orange button at the top-left corner) enabled, click on the Firefox App Tab (button).
1b) If you use menus, go to the Tools Menu, and click on Options.
2) Go to Options (it's in the second column of choices), then options again.
3) In the Options Window, go to the Applications Tab. (Be warned, it lags a little, because the list needs time to load.)
4) Please find out what the type of file you were downloading(eg: .exe, .jpg, .mp3, etc.). Once you remember it, find it in the list of type of files.
5) Click on the type of file, and click on "Open in ..." and change it to "Always ask."
If you want, you can spend your time changing all of them to "Always ask."

Lightroom 4.4 Download Problem(s). Since updating I have been unable to download RAW files

Since updating to LR 4.4, I have been unable to download RAW file formats. In addition, normal .jpg files stopped working today! I can successfully still download into LR 3.6 which I kept on my system.
I'm shooting with a Canon 1D Mark X and using LR on an iMac. This is making workflow impossible. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

A couple of tests:
1. Create a Dummy User account with full Admin Read/Write permissions. Does that fix it?
2. Make certain your active User account has full Read/Write permissions for the storage location of both: The Catalog, and The Image Files.

I think i by accident deleted the "download manager" i´m not shore what the program is called in English ( Swedish : filhämtaren), but its symbol looks like a grey little box and when you download a file it appears on a list and is then saved in this program. I don`t know how i didn´t see it in the trash, but somehow i deleted this program by mistake. And as a consequence i can no longer open/download any files. I just got my macbook pro and i do love the system but i am now unsure about what i should do with this problem since i am not that terribly good with computers.... Is there any way you can fix this?

It's called an "installer.app"
You can custom install the "installer.app" directly from your System DVD that originally came w/your computer. It will be either inside the "Bundled Software" folder or inside the "Applications" folder.

Firefox crashes whenever i want to install any addon or download any file. Some times i am receiving error while downloading any file like "could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder"

I am the user of latest firefox 3.6.6 browser. I am getting problems of frequent crashes whenever i tries to install any addon. The crashes also occures whenever i want to download any file.

I downloaded the Microsoft Autoruns package and ran it. There are no programs in the LSA Providers tab, and Apple's Bonjour is the only program in the Winsock Providers tab. I also did the "netsh winsock reset" and rebooted. It didn't fix the problem. Any more ideas?

Unable To Open Any Files In Photoshop CC

Hi All,
I am unable to open any file formats in my trial version of Photoshop CC. This problem seems to occur daily and the only way to resolve it is by restarting my laptop?
File formats I am trying to open include a new PSD file, old PSD files and also jpg files, png files and pdf files.
I am using an HP ProBook laptop but not sure of the model number.
Any help to prevent this from happening would be greatly appreciated and if anyone needs anymore information don't hesitate to ask me?

Another welcome here.
Along with the answers to Trevor's questions, how are you attempting to Open those Image files, i.e. Dbl-clicking on them in Windows Explorer, or from the File>Open menu in the Toolbar? If you are using the former, please try the latter. If you want to work from Windows Explorer, Rt-click on the file, and choose Open With, then Photoshop.
Your comment about WMP being the default viewing program, seems to indicate that your File Associations have been changed, with WMP now set as the target program. If this is the case, then you will likely want to go to Folder Options (check for your specific version of Windows), and reset the File Associations for, say PSD, PSB, JPEG, etc., to point to Ps.
