I am unable to join any wi-fi network that requires a password.

I have no problems joining an open network. I have already tried resetting network settings.

Why am I unable to join my wi-fi network with new iPad air using  correct password?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Wi-Fi Low Connectivity - unable to join any network

I have an Ipod touch, which was working beautifully until about 2 days ago. Wi-fi connection was great (3 bars) and there were no problems at all. Almost overnight, my wifi connectivity seems to have disappeared (now 1 bar) and any network that I had previously joined is denying me access, saying unable to join network. These are all networks (around 6 or so) that i had joined and were previously letting me join automatically. Even my home router had disowned my itouch, even though my ibook still works perfectly wirelessly. I've reset all the settings on my pod, and even wiped it once, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. All the passwords i am entering are correct, as i've watched people using them, yet my ipod is still unable to join any network. Any ideas - i think it could be a signalling issue, as other people ipods seem to have much stronger signals, but it's beginning to seriously **** me off...

I think that you will have no problems connecting your iPods at the Apple store. But it is good idea that you can get them checked out.
Back to your home network. AT&T u-verse routers are somewhat problematic but I did dig up this article on connecting a touch to the router:
    http://utalk.att.com/utalk/board/message?board.id=HSIA&message.id=9757
From what I can tell, this router only uses WEP encryption and you would log on via the number on the name plate of the router as your password.
The other thing is that ATT has had serious DNS problems across the country. On your touch you would most likely get a message that the "server was not responding" and on your MacBook, web surfing would just put you to sleep. I have a feeling that is what was going on when you came home and neither iPod would work.
There is a fix for the DNS problem - use OpenDNS.

  • I am unable to join my existing wireless network with new AirPort Express

I am unable to join my existing wireless network with new AirPort Express.
I am using a DLink DI-524 Router, Windows 7 (64), and the AirPort Express.
AirPort Utility will not recognize the AEX wirelessly, it will only recognize it when it is connected by Ethernet. I can then configure the AEX and verify that the settings stick once disconnected and then reconnected. However, even after that, it will not recognize the AEX once disconnected from the Ethernet cable.
I followed the suggestions of several other threads on these forums. But I am unable to get the AEX to work.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
It's almost always a security setting that causes problems when the Airport Express (AX) tries to join a third party wireless network. The AX usually does not "join" correctly and that's why you can't see it on your wireless network using AirPort Utility.
Using an ethernet cable is still the more reliable way to configure and adjust the AX, but if you are want to try to configure it using wireless, you must return the AX back to factory defaults as follows:
    Power down the AX
Hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the AX back in to power
Release the reset button after 10 seconds
When it is set to factory defaults, the AX broadcasts a wireless signal with a network name like "apple network xxxxxx" where the "x's" are either letters or numbers. You must look for this network by clicking on the fan shaped Airport icon at the top of the screen. If you don't see this network, then click Join Other Network to search that way. Unless you connect to this network, you will not be able to configure the AX using wireless.
Do you know the exact security type that your D-Link router is using? That is the key element in the process.
Open AirPort utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab to establish a name for the AX, device password and adjust time zone settings
    Click the Wireless tab
    Wireless Mode....Join a wireless network
Wireless Network Name...must exactly match your D-Link wireless network name
Enable ethernet clients if you want the port to be active (your D-Link must be compatible with ProxySTA for this to work)
Wireless Security...exact setting of the D-Link network. WEP security causes a lot of issues. Try to use WPA/WPA2 Personal, which is far more secure.
Wireless Password...must match the D-Link network
Click the Music icon to enable AirTunes
    Click Update to save settings
    Any luck?

  • I've tried everything and still am unable to join my own wifi network from my iPhone 4s

I have an AirPort Extreme running the latest software. I've tried everything and still am unable to join my own wifi network from my iPhone 4s, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 3G, my girlfriend's iPhone 4. The only devices that will connect to the network are our MacBook Pros and iPads, (1 and 2). I have reset the airport to default settings, I've restored my iPhone, I've even disabled the password. I am still unable to join my open airport extreme wifi network. PLEASE HELP!

Saying you tried everything isn't helpful. Perhaps describing in detail what you've done would allow people to better assist you.
If you're ever experiencing strange problems connecting to any wifi point you can always try resetting your network settings on your iPhone itself. This solves the majority of wifi problems.
To do this go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will clear all of your saved wifi hotspots and passwords, and hopefully solve your issue.
Please try this and respond with your results.

  • I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5

I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5.  It has the latest software downloaded too.  Keeps saying unable to join network after I type in the password.  All my other devices are able to join but just not the iphone.  I've called Verizon and my internet provider and they have been unable to help.  I had no problems with my iphone 4 with this very same issue.  Please help or I'll be forced to return this phone.  I have 13 days left.

Try power-cycling your router (unplug for 15 seconds, then plug back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, and try joining your network again.  Note: resetting network settings will erase passwords for previously joined networks on your phone.

  • My MacBook Pro will not open any application or program that requires internet, even though I am connected to the web.

My MacBook Pro will not open any app or program that requires Internet, even though I am connected to the web. I recently installed Norton AntiVirus and think it may have changed a setting that I couldn't find. I uninstalled Norton and it didn't help. Every time I open Safari, iTunes or any other program that tries to connect to the Internet, it crashes. Strangely enough, Skype still works, but nothing else.
    I have OSx 10.6.8.
I have tried erasing plists, and all the standard troubleshooting, ie resetting modem, restarting computer, reloading Safari from disk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Change your router channel.  Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router.  Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.

Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

To properly uninstall Norton software follow these instructions - Locate Symantic Solutions folder inside the Applications folder at the root level of your HD, launch the Symantec Uninstaller application, select the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate, Norton AntiVirus & Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect entries and click the Uninstall button.
Confirm your decision when prompted and then enter your administrator password in the space provided.
Retart your computer & Norton should be gone for good.
If the above does not work, download a copy of Symantec’s RemoveSymantecMacFiles removal utility.  This utility will launch Terminal & remove the Norton components.

  • Problems joining Wi-Fi networks that require viewing a redirect page in iOS 8.1.1? Check your "Auto-Login" setting.

Are you having problems joining previously used Wi-Fi networks that require you to view a login or redirect page (say to accept Terms of Use) first?  The problem could be your Auto-Login Wi-Fi network setting.
I found numerous cases where I could not access in-store Wi-Fi networks (Nordstrom was one), hotel networks or in fact networks where you had to first view a Terms and Conditions page or where you had to login via a web form.
These were all networks I had used before.
This appears to be due to the "Auto-Login" setting assuming that once you (re)join a previously known network you can just go ahead and use it without further action. When the iOS device receives an error trying to use the network, it silently drops the Wi-Fi association.
If this is happening to you, follow these steps:
    1) Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi
    2) Select the network you want to join
    3) When a check-mark appears next to the SSID, press the "i" button on the right hand side
    4) Set Auto-Join however you want, but shut off the Auto-Login switch
    5) Now attempt to use the network and you should be presented with the usual redirect page with terms you must accept or where you must login to use the Wi-Fi network in question
This cleared up the issue for me everywhere I had previously been having issues.

Just let me get one thing straight...you don't change don't do this for the PC you have your router plugged in to?
    "For Vista:
    1. Open Control Panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Center, Manage Network Connections
    2. If Wireless, Right click on your Wireless Network Connection, otherwise, Right click on Local Area Connection and click Properties
    3. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)
    4. Click Properties
    5. Tick Use the Following IP Address and enter the IP you want to use for that PC. I would start at 192.168.0.100(D-Link) and work your way up on each additional device. The second device would be 192.168.0.101, the 3rd, 192.168.0.102 and so on. Like I said, different brands of routers use different IP's, so it could be 192.168.1.100 and so on, so you will need to know the IP address of your router first.
    6. Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0 on all pc's and devices
    7. Default Gateway is 192.168.0.1(D-Link) or whatever your router's IP is on all pc's and devices
    8. Tick Use the Following DNS Server Address and enter 192.168.0.1(D-Link) or whatever your router's IP is and click OK.
    9. You will need to do this on all Vista Pc's"

  • IPhone5 always unable to join any network!

I have had an iPhone5 for months but it has barely ever worked on wifi! I have done ALL the suggested actions on here e.g. airplane mode on then off, forget this network, reset network, tried it on various networks (home/work/public), rebooting, etc. All I ever get is unable to join the network "...". Can anyone please help?

What security is being used on the networks you want to join?
Are you enetering the Network Password correctly? This is the most common reason for failed connections.
Have you switched on your own Wi Fi hot spot in settings? If so turn it off.
Your iPhone should be able to join virtually any Wi Fi network.
If you continue to experience issues, make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and get them to check it out.
