I am unable to open pdf docs from websites, specifically menus from a licensed premises.

Firefox attempts to download the document but stops after a few seconds and freezes.

/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

    Post relates to: Palm TX

Adobe for Palm is an ancient program that requires you to convert the raw PDF files on your desktop before you can sync them on a PalmOS device.  Are you using the converter program from Adobe?
I gave up on this program a long time ago, and switched to the freeware "PalmPDF" available on freewarepalm.com.  You can put raw PDF's on an SD card and they can be read by the program with no conversion necessary!

  • Since last update, unable to open PDF files from either banking site. The other (IE) works fine but I hate IE. I deleted newer versions and went back to older releases. No help, same thing. Checked settings in options. That is ok. What's up?

Unable to open PDF files from my banking statements.

I think almost every dev is on arch-general, so that is the place to contact the group in general.  Specific points can probably be emailed to the dev involved, if one is identifiable and if the bug tracker is not a better place (bug reports to my email get ignored).
I think the whole problem here is that there is really no dev in charge of that package.  So your emails were probably seen then skipped over by all devs thinking not my problem...  (I know that is true for me).   Then Andrea noticed an "orphan" package that needed updated and went ahead with it without connecting it to your previous emails, which is unfortunate.
Now our maintainer backend is fixed, hopefully we can get all the orphan packages adopted out, or at least know if we need to bring on new people to maintain them.  That way, there should always be someone who information about specific packages should be sent to.

    Hello,
I am unable to open pdf files from the web.  Documents on my hard drive open fine.  My computer gives me 2 error messages when I try to open web-based documents.  Thanks.

Why did you post so many informations about operating system, web browser, Adobe Reader version, and the error messages?

  • Adobe Reader 11 is unable to open PDF's from Internet Explorer 11

My boss is currently operating on the Adobe Reader 11 and often needs to use Internet Explorer 11 for certain programs.
Unfortunately the Adobe Reader is unable to open PDFs from Internet Explorer and often comes up with a message telling us that the file is either damaged, no longer exists or that there is a problem with the syntax.  She does not have this problem with Google Chrome.  We have tried several ideas regarding the security settings but nothing seems to correct the problem.  Could someone shed some light on how to fix this error?

  • Not opening pdf docs from websites

We recently installed Adobe Acrobat (full version) 7 onto our computers.  For some reason it will now not open any docs that are pdf's from websites/webpages which has rendered my computer virutally useless as I'm an insurance agent and 90% of what I print are pdf's from carrier websites.  Thoughts?  I've messed with my restricted sites options and some of my security features and am not having luck.

    Thanks Tim,
I am using IE, so I did the instructions, but the box was already marked.  It so weird, whenever I go to open the PDF's from online it just errors out and says IE isn’t responding.  I'm sure it has to do w/ the Adobe b/c that is the only change that was made to my PC between the time it worked and stopped working...

  • Cannot open pdf docs from within Eudora.  Registry problem?

My email client is Eudora, which has worked well for many years, but it recently lost the ability to open pdf email attachments in Adobe Reader from within it.
I have tried the  standard file association solution and that has not helped.
I am posting to see if anyone thinks my problem is caused by registry settings, and if so, if you can give me a lead on which settings to change and what to change them to.  Here are details.
I am currently using Eudora 5.2.  Adobe Reader 9.4 is my default pdf viewing software and OS is Vista Home Premium SP2.
I was recently given a nuance product, pdf converter pro 7, which set itself as my default pdf viewer.
I have succeeded in restoring Adobe Reader as my default pdf viewer (e.g., in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer), but now, when I try to click on a pdf attachment in Eudora, the file doesn't open and the following pops up in an error box:
"This file  does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.  Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."
I have gone to the associations control panel and set Adobe Reader as my default program for opening pdf files.  However that has had no effect on the problem in Eudora.
The attachments to emails in Eudora have the little Adobe pdf icon next to the file name and have a .pdf extension, but all I get when I click on them is the error message.  If I right-click on the attachment's file name, I get a context menu, but if I click on "open with..." and then select to always open with Adobe Reader, the pdf attachment does not open and nothing changes.
If I try to use the context menu to do a "save as," to save the attached pdf somewhere on my hard drive, everything looks fine, except the pdf is not saved to the other folder.
Other files attached to my emails open fine from Eudora, as always (e.g., Word documents), just as pdf documents used to do for many years.
I can go to Eudora's attachments folder in Windows Explorer and open the attached pdfs from there, and they open in Adobe Reader and work fine.  However, that takes time to hunt them down in the hundreds of attachment files, which I would rather avoid.
I tried reinstalling Eudora.  The problem persists.
I assume nuance's pdf converter pro 7 hijacked an Adobe Reader registry setting, or maybe a Eudora registry setting, but I have not been able to find it and would not know what to do if I did.
Any suggestions for a fix will be appreciated.

    No, I can't, sorry.

  • Unable to open pdf files from weblinks

    Hi,
I am encountering a problem while opening .pdf files through weblinks.
The problem occurs both in IE and chrome.
I am using Adobe Reader 9.1.0 version.
The snapshot the error message is attached.
Does anybody have a solution for this issue
    regards,
    -Amruth

I got this! Recently discovered a solution trying to help out my mom who was having the same problem.
First off, right click on the document and click "save as" to save it on to your computer (instead of just left clicking it to open it). Next go to where that file is saved on your computer and right click it again, choosing "open with" and then "choose default program..."
Here make sure you have the Adobe Reader option highlighted and click OK, ensuring the option of "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked off as well. This should re-associate your .PDF files to open automatically with Adobe.
    HOPE THIS HELPED :3

  • Can't open pdf files from my hard drive

I have a problem. I'm using windows Vista Home Premium. When I'm trying to open pdf file saved in a folder on hard drive "open with" window appears. I click browse, then \Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRD32.exe, then ok and nothing happens. I have "open with window" with no changes. Just like I didn't choose any program to open pdf file. Pdf files should be associated to acrobat reader after instaling but they are not. I can't associate them manually. Everything works fine when I'm opening pdf files in IE7 or run AcroRD32.exe and then file->open. The same was with Reader 8.1.2. I uninstalled it and install 9.0.0 but it didn't help. No idea what to do. Please help.

    Have a look at
    http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/236/1/Unable-to-open-PDF-attachments-from-Windows-Ma il.html
It looks like you have to remove any existing associations before
trying to apply the correct ones.

  • Unable to open pdf from some particular shared folder which is not in domain

    Encountered a strange issue here.
We have copuple of users who login with Citrix session.
They are able to open pdf from all the shared folders but not one which is not in domain.
User are able to open all other files viz. doc, excel, notepad and so from that particular folder.
Issue with all the pdf files and not only one particular file.
Double clicking the pdf file starts the process AcroRd32.exe but the file does not open.
If an already running AcroRd32.exe process is there (means if Adobe Reader is already open), then it's possible to open the pdf files from that folder.
Moreover, came across one strange thing.
I created a shortcut to one of the pdf file from that folder within the same folder.
And it was possible to open pdf file from that shortcut but not directly :S
Gives error: "Acrobat failed to connect DDE server" after about 20 mins if we try to open file directly.
Googled a bit and found that issue can be resolved by navigating to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\acrobat\shell\open\ddeexec\application and changing the Key "AcroviewA10"  to  "AcroviewR10
But when I navigated to the mentioned registry there was no AcroviewA10 but instead it was just Acroview.
    Adobe Reader version: 9.5.5
I will be really grateful if somebody can provide solution for this.

What happens when you open the Adobe app, then tell it to open the file?
How big are the attachments?  There are limitations to the size allowed to be sent:
    Email Provider
    Size Limit
    Gmail
    25Mb
    Outlook
    20Mb
    Yahoo
    25Mb
Are you sending the files to yourself?  Not sure how you are emailing files from a website...
Are the PDF's password-protected, or some kind of copyrighted eBook perhaps?  Can you email other files successfully, or are PDF's the only files that don't work?
Perhaps using a free Cloud service as an intermediary might work better.
