I am unable to reinstall Photoshop CS6 (I do have the serial number) on my Macbook Pro 10.9.5 (Mavericks os). and am getting the message "Installation on case-sensitive volumes is not supported.  Please choose a different volume for installation."  I am further told that "Adobe apps cannot be installed on case-sensitive drives, you need to Install the product onto an HFS+ or HFSJ non-case-sensitive drive."
What I don't understand is this:  I originally bought and installed Photoshop CS6 back in March 2013, and it worked fine.  Yesterday my hard drive had to be replaced and my computer person salvaged as much of what was on it as he could, but now I have to reinstall Photoshop.  1) Why did it work before and it's not working now?  2) Is there anything I can do that does not involve reformatting the hard drive?

It means what it says. The "computer person" formatted it wrongly/ unsuitably. it needs to be formatted again.

  • Unable to reinstall Photoshop CS2 from Creative Suite

I had to uninstall Creative Suite CS2 because I wanted to try CS5.  Come  to find out after a lot of frustration unable to do because I have a  G5  that does not have an intell processor.  When I tried to reload the  Creative Suite CS2 the Photoshop was grayed out.  Unable to click onto  it to install.  Any suggestions?  I am a web and graphic desighner with  no photoshop! UGH!  Please respond.  Thank you

If you find no other option, try cleaning up your machine and then run the installer again. Following kb will help you to cleanup your machine manually -
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/331/331301.html
Or if you are able to run CS5 cleaner tool and you have *NO* other Creative Suite product installed. Click 'Clean all' button for CS3/CS4 and CS5. You can download the cleaner tool from the following location -
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
Also empty your trash before running the CS2 installer.

Sounds like you transferred programs from another drive? This isn't a very good way to do it. Yes, re-install the Adobe apps.

J3liu1 I would recommend reviewing the installation log files for the specific error message which you are facing.  You can find details on how to locate an interpret your installation log files at Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.

  • Installer failed to initialize: unable to install Photoshop CS6 from download

I'm unable to install photoshop CS6 from download. I've downloaded to required two files (Photoshop_13_LS16.7z and Photoship_13_LS16) and double clicked on the second file. This appeared to extract a number of files and folders to a newly created C:/users/lester/desktop/adobe CS6/Photoshop/ folder. I found a file called "Set-up.exe" inside the .../Adobe CS6/ folder and double clicked it. When I double click, a status bar says "initializing installer" for a few seconds, I get the following error message:
! We've encountered the followng issues
Adobe installer is already running. Please close other Adobe installers and select retry option to continue with this installation.
    Get Adobe Support Advisor
Nothing else is running in Windows. The adobe support advisor link is useless because the page says support advisor was discontinued. The "how to download" PDF on the download page was useless (for CD disk downloads only). Any ideas?

Thanks Jeff - I decided to do a complete reinstall of Windows because of this issue and others with unwanted popups I accidentally downloaded. Hopefully things will go smoother the third time around, just as they did a few days ago when I did install PS CS6 without any problems.

  • Licensing has stopped working/unable to reinstall

I have been using Creative suite CS3 for years now.  Recently, I got the Licensing has stopped working error message. Im running windows vista 64 bit. I tried the License recovery tool on the adobe website with no luck. So I completely uninstalled CS3 and now I am unable to reinstall it.
Uninstall went fine, I restarted my laptop afterwards etc... Now I'm trying to install from scratch. During install I get the error message that the file AdobePDF.dll is needed.
The adobe website makes the solution seem very simple, 3 steps.
    1. When the error occurs, click Cancel to exit the dialog box and continue with the installation.
    2. Install the Microsoft has Hot Fix as documented in Microsoft article #930627 available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930627.
    3. Update Acrobat to version 8.1 or later. The Acrobat update is available on the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/.
I do step one. Installation completes and I am told that Acrobat has installed successfully but photoshop, illustrator, indesign, bridge etc have not. And I do see the Acrobat Pro icon on my desktop and it appears to have installed correctly. However, when I launch acrobat, I am told that acrobat can not be opened without opening one other creative suite application such as Photoshop.
So I move on to step 2. I followed the install link specifically for windows vista, but am told that the update does not apply to my system.
step 3- I tried to download an acrobat update, though it was hard to determine If I was doing the right one, (I did the Adobe Acrobat 11.0.01 Pro and Standard update - All languages) but I got an error message telling me that "
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
Any suggestions for this mess? Prior to the original issue, I was using CS3 almost daily, and I did not make any changes or updates to my system that I know of. I even tried system restore before I even uninstalled CS3.

    Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool
Run it, then reinstall. You will still get the failed install, so this time uninstall again and reinstall another time. There's a bug in the installer that requires all this hocuspocus of doing things twice. And unless your life depends on it, leave out Acro 8 to avoid that other issue.

  • PS CC 2014 can't start on Mac OSX "Unable to initialize Photoshop due to a Program error"

I just downloaded and installed Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop CC 2014 and Lightroom on an iMac and a Macbook, both with OS OS X 10.10 (14A389).
On both Macbook and iMac i get the same error when I try to start PS CC 2014: "kon photoshop niet initialiseren vanwege een programmafout". Or in English: "Unable to initialize Photoshop due to a Program error".
    In PSErrorLog.txt (~/Library/Preferences/Photoshop CC 2014 Settings/PSErrorLog.txt) I see:
    2015:01:24 13:57:05 : /Volumes/workarea/PS_15_Mac_Daily_Retail/20141204.r.310/photoshop/main/photoshop/sources/ UColorState.cpp : 737 : REQUIRE failed
I uninstalled and reinstalled: doesn't help
The use of Cleaner Tools didn't solve the problem
How can I get PS CC 2014 up and running ??

On another simular question was the answer:
Either your default color settings files are corrupted, or they are missing (they're in the system application support folder).
Uninstalling and reinstalling should put the default files back in place.
Those files are missing. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't put hem back in place.

  • Unable to initialize Photoshop because the preferences file has been removed

    Hello
After a week without using photoshop, I can no longer open it. As soon as I try this message appears: "Unable to initialize Photoshop because the preferences file has been removed."
So, I went to look for this preferences file that I've never deleted and I can't find it.
I tried to reset photoshop with keyboard shortcuts preferences,  it does not work. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the software, it does not work either.
What else could I do ...?
    Thank you for your help.

Seems odd that such a problem would crop up on its own.  That kind of sounds like a registry or permissions problem.  What other things did you do with the computer between the time it worked and it didn't?
And if you're willing to uninstall / reinstall to try to recover operation, it might be prudent to try the Adobe cleaner tool to really be sure you've uninstalled everything...

  • Trying to reinstall photoshop cs5 after computer crash

i need to reinstall photoshop after a computer crash.  i inserted the cd, accepted the conditions, but am unable to enter the product code.  Can enter numbers, but not letters.  I am assuming this is because this is a student/teacher edition.  What do I need to do in order to reinstall Photoshop?
    Thank you,
    Jed

It sounds as if you are trying to enter your product code and not your serial number.  If your software is registered then please see http://forums.adobe.com/message/3987968#3987968?promoid=KBHJW for information on how to locate your serial number.
If you have not registered your software then please see http://forums.adobe.com/message/4635085#4635085 which discusses how to obtain your serial number from your product code.

  • Unable to Install Photoshop CS5

I am attempting to install Adobe Photoshop CS5 (apart of the Adobe CS5 Web Premium edition) on my Mac. After downloading "CS5 Web Premium" from http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html, I was able to successfully install Illustrator, but every time I install Photoshop, everything but the application itself installs. I have reinstalled the installer 3 times, and am still unable to get Photoshop CS5 installed.

I am currently running on Mac OS X 10.9.5. Like I said in the original post, the software installs, so there is no error messages, but it does not install the Photoshop application itself.
I have pasted the install log for Adobe CS5 Web Premium here: http://pastebin.com/eWJaZnt3
    Thanks!

  • Reinstall Photoshop?

I installed Photoshop CC, but was unable to open it. Thinking it was a bad download, I uninstalled, but was then unable to reinstall as the CC Desktop App thinks that Phtoshop CC is already installed. HELP!

It seems your issue is resolved now, For reference this was because you deleted the Ps app not uninstalled it. So when you try to download, it shows you that Ps CC is already installed.
To resove it, Run the Cleaner tool to remove Ps CC :http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html . and then try installing Ps again.
