I am unable to save a PDF using "create from scanner" on my iMAC.

I can open Acrobat XI and select "Create from Scanner". The document scans and displays on my screen correctly.  But, when I click on "File - Save", the Acrobat window disappears and is replaced with "Problem Report for Acrobat".  I have checked, and I have the most recent version.  I have tried reboot the computer.  Still no luck.

Mac OS X 10.9.3
Acrobat 11.0.07
Yes, I have the latest version of Acrobat.  Clicking on "Update" tells me there are no updates available.
I have an Epson EF-3530
I have do some testing, it does not matter how the document gets created; Acrobat dies whenever I do "File - Save".
Here is the top of the information displayed in the "Problem Report for Acrobat" window which appears (there is a lot more information, I can post if it would be useful):

  • Unable to "save as pdf" using Excel

    Hi,
    This problem concerns SharePoint 2010
We have an issue with "save as PDF" option to the library on one particular site, it appears to work but the .PDF file never appears in the library.
We can save as PDF to the desktop then upload to the library.
Word will save as PDF to the same library without issue.
Would very much appreciate any ideas you might have or help you can give,
    Thanks,

If you are able to save as PDF from Word, but not from Excel, it could be a bug in Excel.
Have you checked to see if there are any Excel updates/patches that you do NOT have installed?  This kind of thing is usually fixed through a patch.
I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks
    C

  • Preflight keeps saying  "Unable to save the PDF File after post processing"

I'm at a loss how to overcome this. Spent almost a whole day, together with another person, trying to fix it with no success!
I use Adobe pro CC on a PC
I usually receive pdf files from this one client who edits and formats a book in Mac Pages. Up until a few days ago I had no problems converting the client's pdfs into pdf/x3, but the last three versions of the latest file have stumped me.
Just to test, I first just tried to convert the file (33MB), unchanged, to pdf/x3 using the save as other option - message reads  "the document has been saved, however, it could not be converted according to the selected standard profile: convert to PDF/X. Please use preflight with the profile "Convert to PDF/X" in order to identify those properties of the document which prevent it from being compliant to this profile"
if I then choose under Profiles - convert to PDF/X3 - it says no problems found, and appears to have saved the file. If I try to save again as a pdf/x3, just to make sure, it then tells me it's not pdf/x3 compliant
OK - so then I go back to preflight - and choose the standards function - then pdf/x3, then continue with the default colour profile. About halfway through the conversion, at the point of saving the file,  I get the message "unable to save the pdf file after post processing"
So far I've had no luck figuring out what this is.
I then choose the option of "verify compliance of ppdf/x3" - message reads "pdf/x3 version key (GTS_PDFXVersion) missing", and "Trapped key not true or false"
Help!! How can I be sure the file converted / or not?
    kim

Yes I was/am aware of Preflight's inability to play nicely over cloud technologies in certain cases, especially wrt Standards technologies, this will be partially addressed in an upcoming version of Preflight without saying too much.  But the same thing could theoretically have happened if the file was also located on another local network client or server.  Leaving aside the argument that this may violate the Acrobat User Agreement - since purchasing the software, the user agrees to employ its functionality on a single host system and precludes host-client-based scenarios - this simply is not a supported use, meaning the user may not have expectations that it will work at all, if the applications requirements are not observed.  There do exist server-solutions for Preflight files within networks, but Acrobat and by extension Acrobat Preflight is not one of those solutions, and (still) belongs in the single host-based desktop environment.
However most (99.9%) functions within Acrobat <-> acrobat.com file exchange are supported, file syncing across multiple devices will soon be supported, but Standards compliance is still admittedly a problem at this point.  Some testing has been done using 3rd party cloud technologies starting with enterprise-based solutions, such as Office 365, and this will continue to ramp up to include other 3rd party products.
As for the second point, Preflight will usually change the PDF version to be complaint, are you saying that it was unable to do so in this case?  It seems that this error should have popped up during the normal Preflight conversion attempt.  Personally I think solving a workflow problem using the print path is a little bit of a heavy-handed approach, but if helped and the results are acceptable, then that is good.  Since that path is non-existent on a Mac, as one needs to Save as Adobe PDF from the Print dialog's PDF drop-down menu, I am assuming your workflow involved file creation on a Mac, then further processing on Windows using the PDF printer.  I am wondering if a simple resave/Save As... to PDF with overwrite on a Mac, or Preflighting the file using a PDF version compatibility profile before the PDF/X conversion would have helped.  Since there are such a multitude of methods that a PDF can be created, there are also many ways within Acrobat that a user can shape the file to be compatible with the expected workflow, ie, 'many ways to skin a cat', without being morbid.

  • Why am I unable to save unsecured PDFs

I have Acrobat 9 on a new Vista PC. All of a sudden I am having difficulty saving downloaded PDF documents, even tho they are not secured (i.e. Properties/Security shows everything Allowed including copying). Am even in email correspondence with one of the PDF's publishers who can't reproduce my problem - i.e. he also thinks that I should be able to save a download of his PDF document !
Neither clicking the save icon in the Acrobat toolbar nor picking File/Save As in the Explorer toolbar brings up the usual save dialogue box.
The strange thing is that the difficulty seems to arise on only some sites/downloads, not all.
Does anyone have any technical insights into this issue? Anything to do with Vista security or McAfee, perhaps?
    With thanks for any assistance!!

    Hi David,
The suggestion you made did the trick. Can download web pdfs again.
    Looking forward to more solutions.

    Hi Louis,
    >
I found a decent guy at Adobe who is looking into the matter for me, in
case there are other lurking issues. Meanwhile he suggested an Adobe Acrobat
9.1 workaround that does seem to solve the problem in the short term. Try it
    - if it's available in Reader - and good luck!

I'm sorry to hear you are still having problems with Acrobat. I am going to
run a couple of tests with a Vista image here to see if I get the same
    issue.

In the mean time, in Acrobat, you would probably benefit from not
    displaying the PDF in browser:
menu Edit > Preferences : Internet : uncheck "Display PDF in browser" This
should in theory allow you to save the PDF using Acrobat's own menus.

Another option is to right click a link that points to a PDF and use Save

  • Any trick to save as PDF using Windows 7 and Safari 5.1.7?

Is there a reason I cannot "Save As PDF" using Safari on Windows 7 / PC?  Version is 5.1.7
    Thanks

You've tried turning off all firewall and antivirus software ? If that doesn't work then you could try downloading the 5.1.1 update via a browser :
    original iPad
    iPad 2 wifi
    iPad 2 gsm/sim
    iPad 2 CDMA
    iPad 2 new
    iPad 3 wifi
    iPad 3 gsm
    iPad 3 CDMA
When it's finished downloading, in your computer's iTunes press and hold the shift key on Windows (command key on Mac) when clicking the Check For Updates button which should let you navigate to the downloaded file.

  • How to save Fillable PDF form created in XI - So Acrobat Reader can fill out and send back

Hi, Im extremely hopeful someone can help me with this question, Ive had extreme luck with this question site, you have all been amazing.
I have created a fillable form in Adobe Acrobat XI and I have saved my work and Im ready to send the form to my client.
I have been told that I need to save my file in a manner that the general public that does not have Acrobat XI, and mainly has acrobat reader, will be able to open, fill my form out, and send back to me completed.
    How do I do this.
Ive run a couple tests with coworker and its not allowing the saving of the information that she filled out.
Does anyone know how I need to save and distribute this form so I get it back filled out from my clients? that probably have only reader?
thanks in advance for your help.
    Amy

I think I figured this out???? My pdf tester has gone to bed, so hopefully I will know by morning if this is my solution......
Open the PDF in Acrobat XI (the form you have saved that is ready to be filled out to whoever you distribute the form to).
Choose Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader (Acrobat 8/9) (if you have XI do not do this step, but do step 4 for XI)
    or
File > Save As >Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features (Acrobat X) (Its actually not in save as, but in save as other)
Save the PDF using a different file name, you will be using this new file to be the file you will distribute.
When you now open the PDF in Adobe Reader you will be able to fill the form and save the data and then send it back to the author that is requesting the form to be filled out.

  • Strange that I can save a pdf file created in windows 8.1 to my cloud storage

Strange that I can save a pdf file created in windows 8.1 to my cloud storage, but then I don't see it when I open my account. What is strange is that when I try again to save the file, system ask me to change the file name or over write current file. But file not present in my drive. Any help would be much appreciated

    Hi jeffjn,
Please log out of your account, clear the cache, and then log back in. If that doesn't work, please log in using a different web browser. (See System requirements | Acrobat.com for a list of supported web browsers.)
Please let us know how it goes.

  • I am unable to open PDF files created from another PGM.

Is there an ADOBE pgm that will properly read in PDF files created from another pgm and convert them to ADOBE PDF so they do not error when they are opened to be viewed by ADOBE pgm?

There is no way to know all the different scan/fax/pdf printers that are used to make the original PDFs...
CAD-KAS PDF Editor 2.6 is used to edit the files
doPDF 5 is used to modify pdf file.
Interesting, I can use the free CAD-KAS PDF reader to open & read the PDF file that the ADOBE XI reader
gives me the above error message.

  • How do I customize the password input page of the PDF documented created from Pages?

Is there a way to customize the password input page of the PDF document created from within Pages?
I created a document in Pages, on exporting I choose PDF, in the Security Options drop down I checked box password required and typed in a password, then clicked Next, then typed in a file name and then clicked Export. This created a PDF file that when I open with preview brings up a red colored page saying:
    This PDF is password protected.
    Please type the password below.
    Password:
I want to change the color and the text and potentially add an image. I may also need to put in instruction in multiple languages not just english.
Please let me know. Thanks all!

    Not that I know of.
You could control click on the Pages.app and have a look inside the application package's resources to see if any of it looks like password dialog, but my guess is that it has been encoded in the main part of the application and altering that, even if you could, would probably result in a check-sum error or failure to take updates.
Adobe Acrobat has more control over its .pdfs but its password verification, I think is also part of the application.

  • Unable to save Infoview pdf reports in Windows Vista

    Good morning,
My coworker needs to be able to save Infoview pdf reports from her Windows Vista PC, but she is presently unable to.  She was able to save the reports fine previously from the Windows XP PC she used to have.
Following are the steps taken to arrive at the problem:
    1) On a Windows Vista PC, browse to:  https://wyinf.hostams.com/InfoViewApp/logon.jsp
    2) Logon with appropriate credentials.
    3) Navigate to:  All > Public Folders > WY WOLFS Reports > Double-click on one of the listed Adobe Acrobat .pdf reports.
    4) Now the pdf report is open within the web browser, and "BUSINESSOBJECTS INFOVIEW" is the title above the pdf report.
    5) Click on the "Save" button - Nothing happens or appears.  (After clicking on the save button, a window should launch that lets you save the pdf file to a desired location.  This works fine on Windows XP)
If any of you know of any workarounds to this problem or any settings I could adjust to fix this, please let me know.
    Thanks for any help,
    Tully

    Hi Raveesh
Apologies but we do not have certification done on Vista yet.

  • Unable to save a PDF created from a secure webpage in Acrobat X

    Hi,
Our Acrobat X standard won't 'save' or 'save as' PDFs created from a password secured website. Same symptom on two machines here. Other PDFs work fine.
The workflow we're using is opening acrobat, selecting create pdf from website, and then specifying a website with an https address and entering a username and password to access the site. This generates a pdf which looks great, all the links work etc... but when you click 'save as,' absolutely nothing happens. You're left just looking at your PDF with no save window or anything opening.
This gets done every day in the office here. I suspect the latest update may have caused the issue?

    Hi Bill@VT,
    Thanks for your reply!
I checked document properties and security is off. I've also unticked "Enhanced Security" under Security (Enhanced) in the Edit > Preferences menu.
This issue is only affecting our acrobat 10 and acrobat 11 users. I still have a couple acrobat 9 users here and they're unaffected.
The Save As button is not greyed out -- it's available but clicking on it just closes the file menu and does not open the save as dialog box.

  • Can you change X Pro default settings to save all PDFs using "smallest file size" job option?

Is there a way to change Acrobat X Pro's default PDF Save settings to use the settings in Distiller's "smallest file size" job options, or adjust Acrobat's default save settings to a close match?

In Windows you select the printer in the Start>Printers menu and right click to get the properites. You can then go to the settings tab and select the smallest file size job options. When you do it in the printer settings, you have set the default. Be very careful with this choice. It typically reduces the image resolution and embeds no fonts. If you are not distributing the file, then probably not an issue. However, with distribution you risk many folks not being able to read the PDF because of strange characters and low-res image.

  • Unable to save edited PDF from IE

We have several PDF forms that users fill out from the web.  The forms are presented with ColdFusion.  There are 2 scenarios.  The users will sometimes pull up an already existing form to edit and saveit.  Other times they need to create the form from PDF templates. it is presented with a cfpdfform tag.
When the user opens an existing form with a link and Adobe Reader is set up to open within the IE browser they cannot save the edited file.  A dialogue box pops up stating the file alread exists, would you like to replace it. If you answer yes to this another dialogue box pops up stating :"The document could not be saved. This file is already open".  If Adobe PDF is set to NOT open in the browser and the form comes up in Adobe then the save works fine.  However, setting Adobe Reader to not open in the browser doesn't work well when the user needs to create from the PDF template. When the file opens in Adobe the user can save it however, all file pathing and filenames are lost.  it generates temporary filenames and wants to save it to ...Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\SWGQJPOR.
A couple of questions. Anyone know how to get the already existing PDF to save when opened from within the browser?  or if not, anyone know how to get the pathing to stay on the file when it is opened in Adobe?
I'm using Acrobat X to build the template and IE 7 and IE8 for browsers.  Any help is definitely appreciated. thanks

Thanks! I tried that and tested and it worked!  Such a simple solution to a frustrating problem!  Thank you again!

  • Can I save as pdf when printing from a Java applet on a webpage in Safari?

I am trying to use a webpage that is running a Java applet. A dialog comes up that asks me, "Do you want to run this application?" The dialog also says, "This application will run with limited access that is intended to protect your computer and personal information." I select "Run". The applet generates an image I want to print.  There is a "Print" button on the applet.  I select "Print". A Security Warning dialog comes up that says, "The applet has requested access to the printer. Do you want to allow this action?" I select "OK".  The Print dialog comes up.  I choose the PDF button in the lower left corner. I choose "Save as PDF...". A second Print dialog comes up.  I input a title in the Save As box.  I choose Desktop in the Where box.  I do not change anything else and select the "Save" button. A dialog appears that says, "Print Error while printing." There is an icon with paper, a pencil, a ruler and a paintbrush on the dialog.
Is this an issue with Apple and Java security?  Does "run with limited access" mean I can't print and save as PDF? Should I upgrade to Mavericks?  It seems like others have not been happy with Mavericks and have had problems saving as PDF with Mavericks. How do I let Apple know about this error?  The error dialog is useless.
I am on a Mac running OS X 10.8.5 and Safari 6.1.2.  My Java version is 7 update 51.
What other information can I provide to help solve the problem (if it can be solved)?
    Thank you for your help!

Correction I would like to save as PDF/A-1b
    for archiving.
