I am unable to setup my gmail account.

I am unable to set up my Gmail account.
I keep getting a message that the user name and password for Gmail is incorrect although these are the same name and password I use on my laptop.
Today when I purchased the phone, the sales guy in the Apple store had the same problem. He finally ave up after trying for over an hour.
Has anyone ny suggestions on how to resolve. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Google may have "locked" IMAP and/or POP access to your account. To unlock it go here:
https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
Then try setting the account up on the phone again.

My IPad is trying to open two gmail accounts at the same time - I'm unable to open either gmail account.

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank. Be patient, the device will power ON again in the normal way. It is app and data safe!]

Everytime I try to set-up my gmail account in 'Messages' I get an error. I have cleared the cache and even reset my gmail password and it still won't let me add my gmail account to my 'Messages' tab. I have followed the 'How to guide' and not still not working. Help please. OS.2.0

remove current gmail account
then add new account
choose email, calendar, contacts
choose advanced setup

I cant setup my gmail account. Everytime it says imap username or password is wrong.

I was going crazy with this same problem.. nothing seemed to work. Then I tried putting the complete email address in the username field when the account is being created... like this:
Username was xxxxx
username now is [email protected]
This change did the trick for me

You should be able to add the email account to the Mail app like you add any account.
You can also go to Settings>iClould and change the iCloud account but you can't have both account on at the same time.

I'm unable to connect my Gmail accounts to Apple Mail.

All - I've been working on this for hours.
All I want to do is connect my gmail accounts to Apple Mail. I'm running a new Macbook Air w Mountain Lion, Apple Mail 6.5. I can access the accounts on my ipad and iphone. I've spent hours reading forums and help areas.
Mail repeatedly asks for my password. In the account settings it does not save my password.
I've gotten the message that Mail cannot connect to Google imap server, but I do not believe this is a "timing" issue
Here's what I've tried:
Apple Side:
- Tried adding and deleting accounts several times within mail application
- tried using System Preferences > Mail/Contacts etc.
- Changed imap.gmail.com to imap.google.com
- changed to custom dedicated port for outgoing mail (587)
- closed and relaunched Mail
- Rebooted and safe rebooted computer
- set up and deleted accounts
- turned off gmail on phone and ipad
Google Side:
- Enabled IMAP
- Not using 2 step verification
- Checked Captcha

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.

Unable to send to Gmail accounts

HI,
I'm running into a problem with the ability to send to gmail accounts from Exchange. After moving to Exchange 2013 I can send to gmail accounts only sporadically. I can never send to multiple gmail recipients and often even one will give a delayed error.
When looking at the delivery report I get a error of '[{LRT=};{LED=};{FQDN=};{IP=}]'. I've checked the SPF records recreated them using Microsoft's SPF Generator. I've even removed the SPF record all together.
I did tests using smtpdiag utility and everything checks out SOA is fine local domain TCP and UDP checks out, Remote records to gmail are good, and the MX servers ( 5 responded).
Am I missing something? Like I said I can send at times and at other times it delay's and then fails.
This is ONLY happening on gmail.
I've waited online for hours for google support and they told me a tech would get back to me ( which of course they never did).
Any Ideas for this would really be appreciated!

Does this issue occur on a specific time?
How is the impact in you org, only one user or all users?
If only one user has this issue, I suggest creating a test user and mail enabled it on the previous version Exchange server, then migrate to Exchange 2013 and send to Gmail for testing.
According to the NDR message, it seems the email message in the queue expired. The sending server tries to relay or deliver the email message. However, the action is not completed before the message expiration time occurs.
This message can also indicate that a message header limit has been reached on a remote server, or some other protocol time-out occurred while communicating with the remote server.
Found some information for your reference:
4.4.7: This message usually indicates an issue on the receiving server. Check the validity of the recipient address, and determine if the receiving server is configured correctly to receive messages.
You may have to reduce the number of recipients in the message header for the host about which you are receiving this error. If you send the message again, it is placed in the queue again. If the receiving server is available, the message is delivered.

I have opened an email account with gmail on the Google website. I have tried to set this gmail account to open in my Mac mail, but it will not receive emails and is telling me that port 110 has timed out. Is anyone able to help? Thanks

How to stop Mail to automatically setup IMAP Gmail account

I am trying to add a Gmail account to my wifes computer but we only want to use POP. However, everytime I try to set it up, it automatically sets it up for IMAP instead which we dont want. I dont know how to change it properly to get it working to POP.
Can anyone suggest how to set it up with POP?
(FYI: Im fully aware of the differences between POP and IMAP and happy with my decision to have hers just on POP).

Fill out the first window of data, but instead of clicking on Create, hold down the Option key until the Create button changes to Continue. Then click on Continue and proceed to set up as POP.

Cannot setup new gmail account

Wow, this is frustrating.
I have Gmail accounts already set up on my iphone. But I am trying to set up a new one, and sync only the calendar. I tried this with an existing account I want to use to see calendar entries on my iPhone and I tried creating a new Gmail account as well. Same results.
On my iPhone4, I went to Settings-Mail, Contacts, Calendars-Add Account-Gmail. I put in a name, the full email address, the correct password, and a description. When I save, it verifies successfully. Then it asks me to turn on Mail, Calendar, and/or Notes. I only want Calendar for this one (although I have tried selecting each of the others as well. I've tried this many times now) so I turn it ON and the other two OFF and press SAVE.
It says "Adding Account" at the top. Next to that is the spinning circle wait cursor icon. And it stays like that forever. At least 15 minutes with me touching the screen everytime it went dim.
I also tried it a different way. I added the account as described above except I left everything off (Mail, Calendar, Notes). The account did add! However, when I went back into the account and tried to turn on Calendars, it says "Turning On Calendars" with the spinning circle. And stays that way forever. Once again, I let it sit that way for 15 minutes as well.
Help?

Okay, so two hard resets (pushing and holding home button and power button together) in a row did the trick. I had done it once already prior to posting this. I did it again, and then for laughs I did it a second time. And to my amazement, it worked. Thanks for looking at this topic. Issue resolved.

Lion Mail - impossible to properly setup multiple Gmail accounts?

Hi all!
VERY frustrated here, for the third day now. I have been trying to set up my Mail application on MacBook Air running Lion, to sync 4 separate Gmail accounts.
Firstly, I had HUGE problems finding the info on how to go about this and not receive multiple emails in Inbox, drafts/trash/sent all over the place etc. I found a way to do that and now my MAILBOXES part of the pane is showing 4 inboxes, 4 sent, 4 trash etc. Everything seems fine, right? Not quite. Mail gathers emails into threads, just like Gmail does and here is where problems happen (it gets a bit difficult for a non native English speaker to explain the problem).
A thread may have for example 7, 8 messages from my friends and 3 different replies by me. One of these replies will show up in my Inbox 4, 5, 6 times one after another, with parts of the body message in all of them. Onle the one that was finally sent has all the body text.
It seems to me as if Apple Mail application saves drafts every so often and Gmail (or A. Mail) puts these partial drafts into Inbox?? How can I solve this?

Unable to setup multiple email accounts

I don't know how this happened but I was unable to see my email icons (3) on my home page today. I tried to redo my email set uo but I kept getting the setup option for Blackberry Enterprise Server which I didn't have in the first place.
I just wanted to restore my personal accounts.after lots of searching up and down, I finally logged on to my provider's BIS site and managed to set up ONE account. on clicking the next option for adding an extra account, i got the @blackberry.com option which I don't want/need. Tried to set up a third one but was told I have set up the maximum number..
I rebooted my phone and my email icons did appear, thankfully.
My question is, how do I set up an additional email account now that I got my icons back? The email setup option is still asking about Black Enterprise Server.

How do you setup a gmail account in mail?

My college uses a gmail based mail client using google apps. However, i want to setup IMAP access in Apple mail for convenience. For some reason I cannot find a way for mail to access gmails incoming or outgoing mail client. Any tips? My college website is www.selu.edu. Webmail is located at the bottom of this page.

I then enter my password and continue.
on the next page i enter account type IMAP
and set the incoming mail server as imap.gmail.com
my username is the XXXX
and the password i enter then continue
after hitting continue the error message at the bottom reads:
"Logging in to the IMAP server "imap.gmail.com" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot receive messages."
Ii continue anyway and the inbox never receives messages and continously asks for a pass word
Any suggestions?

Solved my own problem:
When it asks for the username, you must include your domain, unlike other clients.
So i added my @selu.edu to the end and it worked fine. I'm sure this would work for all GoogleApps users
