I am unable to turn my iPod Shuffle on.

All I get instead are alternating blinking green and orange lights. Is there a reason why this is happening? What seems to be the problem?

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • PC or Mac was unable to recognized my Ipod shuffle

please help me on this issue...
i have an ipod shuffle and when I try to plug it in the usb of either PC(Windows XP Pro) or iMac (Mac OS X 10.5.3 -Leopard) it wont work...
in Windows, there is a message that says "USB won't recognized"..
in Leopard, when i try to plug in my shuffle... nothing happens.. but it is recharging....
I already tried resetting my ipod but it wont fix the issue.
I also tried to go to an AASP and the technician there tried to use the Ipod Reset Utility... but it wont work...
i have the first gen of ipod shuffle...
    please help me... thanks...

"but it won't work" either means +it got reset but did not work afterward+ OR +that it was recognized by the utility but was not reset successfully+ OR +that it was not even recognized by the utility+.
What I meant was that IF +it was not recognized+, then there is probably a hardware failure in the USB connector. Something that can't be fixed unless you take it apart and install a good part.
That's why I said, "If this utility does not recognize the iPod when connected, it is likely that the USB connector on the shuffle has become faulty."
Thanks for the opportunity to clarify the relevance of my reply.

  • Unable to turn off iPod touch 3 after IOS5 applied

    Hi All,
after I applied IOS5 my itunes started to sync my songs. At the same time some apps were updated and now my iPod hangs. I am unable to reboot the device, holding the power on switch (the button above) will not show the red bar for shutdown.
    Any idears?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

It's called a reset. Always a useful thing to know about!
Though personally I never bother actually turning mine off, I use it so frequently that it is silly, plus it takes more battery to turn it on and off than it does just to put it into sleep mode.

  • My ipod Shuffle 4g turns on the button lock as soon i turn on my ipod!

Hello, I turned my Ipod Shuffle 4th gen on as Normal, but as soon I Turned it on, the button lock turns on automatically, and becomes unresponsive, I cant turn it off! I Can only somehow control my ipod with the remote on my headphones... is there a soulution?????

GOD i did pretty much the same think , idropped mine on a chair nd it dented on the lower volume button and at first there was this crack on the screen like a smurf punched the volume button nd left a crater. After i touched the crack a little bit freaking out, the whole screen went white with a small black spot( like the one on yours, but ALOT smaller) after a little while , like 10 min in my pocket, i could see the top of the screen normally(enough to see the time and date while its locked, but the spot is still there nd the rest of the screen is really white. i can make out things easier on the right side, but everything on the left is bright and distorted as if the loer part of the screen was cut in half nd the left side slid down.
But anyways i dont think we can fix this , ive tried pushing out the dent nd now my ipod just has seisures( the screen flashes like a strobe light as it goes from white and distorted to normal nd back)
Might just hav to pay the $99 for apple to replace/repair it

  • Unable to charge ipod shuffle

  • Turning ipod shuffle on, it sounds three beeps and thats it.

Turning on ipod shuffle, 4 gen., it sounds three beeps, that's it. nothing else happens.

    JDee -
It does seem I was prematurely expecting a logic board failure - guess it's the bad side of my 'hope for the best, prepare for the worst' philosophy.
I followed the instructions you linked to and removed the RAM module (I only have a 1GB one) from the lower slot and placed it into the upper slot and booted up the PB. And voilá - I got the chime and it booted up just fine (actually, a bit quicker than it used to...). So i decided to back up all my data (as it was a month or so since the last one) before the next step - shutting down, opening the memory access panel, and shifted the module back to the lower slot, while making sure it was pressed in firmly. And it worked.
So it seems all that happened was that the RAM module got loose - which would make sense as the problem occurred shortly after i moved my laptop downstairs to write some emails while watching the telly (TV).
Now I'll wait for a few days to see if everything has sorted itself out (just to be on the safe side), and then think about adding that second 1GB memory module i've been thinking about for some time...
Thanks for the advise and the cool head!
    Cheers,
    Mika

  • Itunes will not update/sync ipod shuffle (1st or 2nd gen).

Hello -- I've seen a few postings with similar issues, but no answers that work yet, so I'm hoping someone may be able to help.
Recently, I can not get itunes to sync or update either my 1st or 2nd gen shuffle. itunes sees it and diagnostics says everything is fine (although the diag program takes 5-7 mins to run). Non-shuffle ipods work fine on the same USB port. Also, the shuffles work fine on other computers.
I have deinstalled/reinstalled itunes, as well as the USB driver. I downloaded the reset utility for both shuffles and run. No difference after any of these efforts.
The problem is the same for autofill or drag/drop. itunes says not to disconnect the ipod as it's sync'ing and the little sync symbol appears next to the shuffle, but itunes just locks up ~5 mins. It returns w/o an error message, but nothing has been copied. It's the same whether I try to copy 1 or 100 songs.
Any help will be appreciated. I'll cross post in 1st gen discussion as well.
    Thank you,

None of the suggested fixes in the knowledge base article you referenced resolved this issue for me. Further, I cannot use the iPod Reset Utility to restore the iPod as it is not 64-bit OS compatible.
I have been unable to sync my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen with iTunes since the release of 8.1.1.10. The new release 8.2.0.23 has not resolved the issue. Hopefully Apple will take notice of all the problems here on the forums and release either an iTunes or firmware patch to resolve these problems.

  • Unable to turn off

my ipod is working fine all these while until now.im unable to turn the ipod and have to resort to pressing the reset button to turn it off

when i turn mine off, i have to hold the bottom button on the click wheel for three seconds (or four -- more can't hurt). then let go. then hold it again, and it should shut off. make sure you don't slide your thumb around on accident while holding it. sometimes i have to repeat the process cuz i slid my thumb or something. hopefully, that should do it for you.

  • Wait....having problems....the iPod Shuffle actually works.

I have been feed-up with my iPod shuffle since I bought it, it would sporadically play once it had been switched off.
Ready to take it in for servicing, I played around again trying to work out what was wrong. I found that when turning the iPod Shuffle on it takes anywhere from 30sec to 1 minute to fully boot up.
I you are having problems I hope this helps.
STEP #1 : Switch iPod Shuffle on.
STEP #2 : Wait between 30 sec to 1 min.
    STEP #3 : Press Play.
This should be documented somewhere. Because there is no visual cue. I just kept switching between Shuffle mode and Playlist Mode and off attempting to get it to work.
Finally, I found out why I was having so many problems.
Adding the instructions above would have saved me hours of wondering why it was not working! If you are reading this apple please add this information to the documentation!

When it turns on the light is on, but once it is out - I need to wait about 30 seconds - 1 min to play music.
I think alot of people, have had this problem, I was ready to take it in for servicing, as I could never get it to play anything. I would just keep switching it on and off.
Then I realized, I was being slightly impatient. This should really be documented. If this is normal behavior.

  • HT201269 how can I upload songs from my iPod shuffle to a new laptop with iTunes?

Previous desktop crashed & replaced with a new laptop, so unable to backup my iPod shuffle to iTunes.  When I try to sync the iPod to the new iTunes library, it wants to erase the iPod completely and load the songs from the iTunes library on the new laptop.  How can I transfer songs from iPod shuffl into the new iTunes library without losing everything?

The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases - File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back

  • My iPod shuffle will no longer turn on with switch.

My ipod shuffle 3rd generation, will no longer activate by the off on swotch.  I have to plus into electrical outlet to get it to turn on to select what I want to hear.  It no longer turns off after playing selection it continues to play until battery wears down.  Seems the switch is flat, and can't be raised to be activated.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT1941 Hi i have recently updated my version of iTunes in order to sync music from my macbook air to my new ipod shuffle. After a successful installation the application does not launch and I am unable to oepn iTunes of access my music! Someone please hel

    Hi,
I have recently updated my iTunes to the latest version in order to sync music onto my new ipod shuffle. However after a successful installation the application does not launch or open? There are no error messages. The application is just unresponsive.
I have already checked the compatibility with Safari, my operating system and checked my firewall is not blocking it - all is fine.
Does anyone have any other resolutions?
    Many thanks

    Hi Carolyn,
Thank you for your time and response. The trouble is I am unable to launch iTunes? I have restarted my macbook air a number of times to try and initiate the application but the issue persists and the application remains unresponsive. Will not launch?
    Thanks

  • HT201263 My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine, but when I went back the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. What should I do?

My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine earlier, but when I went back a few hours later, the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. I thought it just needed to be charged but there seems to be a larger issue now. What should I do?

Let your ipod die. Then when it is dead charge it adn turn it back on. After that it should be fine.

  • My iPod shuffle will not turn on, nor is it recognized by the computer to pull up iTunes. I have order new USB cords and nothing. Please help!

My iPod shuffle will not turn on, nor is it recognized by the computer to pull up iTunes. I have order new USB cords and nothing. Please help! Not sure of the generation of iPod shuffle, I think 3rd.

first: why did you download the iOS Beta 8? If you are a developer, go to the Apple Developers website and check what they can do for your case.
second: setup an appointment to a Genius Bar for service.
