I am using Lightroom 4 on a MacBook laptop computer. When backing up the catalogue the process froze. I can't shut the program down nor can I restart my computer. What do I need to do?
I am frozen in the Lightroom 4 'Backing up Catalogue' process. What do I do? I am using a MacBook laptop. Because I cannot get out of Lightroom I cannot shut down my computer.
How long has the backup been running? Have you "optimised" your catalog lately?? Did you have "optimise" and "check Integrity" checked in the back up menu? Which OSX version?
The simplest solution is to turn off your Macbook with the on/off button...

Using lightroom on desktop PC and laptop computer
When I'm out in the field, I take my laptop and download images to my laptop, triage photos, assign ratings and categories. When I get back home, I want to transfer this information to my main PC which has a giant, backed up harddrive. I also occaisionally want to take a subset of my photos from my main PC out to show someone via my laptop.
Does lightroom address this scenario?
No, I don't want to use the "unsupported" sync toy because I want to export portions of my database to my laptop, do some work on my laptop, then transfer the work from my laptop back to my desktop PC.
From reading some other posts, sounds like this is not supported. How many other people need this functionality? Is there a web site where I can post a feature request?There is an earlier thread, don't remember which. Describing simple way.
You store the Inages in the exact same folder tree structure on the laptop as on the home storage. you 'triage' on the laptop with auto export to XMP on (in Prefs). at home you move the folders to the storage place on the drive there using LR drag and drop.
Then import them on the main machine from the storage space.
Meanwhile you have all your images referenced on the lap top from the same storage space so that you can show and see them even when away. (Thay show red in the folder list when off line to the laptop.)
The home computer will see all your work except collections, Virtual Copies and stacks.

Nothing to do with Adobe. That's a browser error.
Clear your browser cache and cookies.

I have an Apple Macbook and will be backing up the entire system in order to upgrade to a newer OS. I will be using an external hard drive to do this and there is already data on it. To complete the backup, i will be using the Time Machine application. Does this application wipe out all of the existing data on the external hard drive, or will it create a new "folder" for the backup?
thank youNo, but as steve359 states you should use a dedicated hard drive for backups. It you need a temporary backup then you can use the drive provided it has sufficient space for all your data on the hard drive.
When Time Machine finds that the drive has data on it already it may decide to erase the drive before continuing, which is another reason to use a dedicated drive. -
I just installed MacOS X Yosemite on my MacBook Air 2011. After installing Yosemite I installed the Photoshop Elements 12.1 upgrade, but now when I open the program and try to use the tools, the program freezes. How do I fix this problem?
If you use a trackpad and don't want to switch to a mouse, you can uninstall and reinstall all day long and will still have problems, but if you really want to try it, you can download PSE 12 here:

Since you are covered by warranty, I would take it to your nearest Apple store immediately. There might be a problem with the RAM. And, you have 14 days to return the machine, so if it is not an easy fix, you might want to consider returning it for another machine.

My advice is to stop listening to Matt Kloskowski ... but nevertheless ... what he explained, dragging and dropping a folder to another hard disk, works as long as you are meticulous and never forget to do so. And if you're not meticulous about it (and most people probably aren't), then you don't have backups. The best way (and in my opinion ONLY way that works) is to use third-party software that will perform the backups of your photos and your catalog file automatically and regularly (every day or every week). The built-in catalog backup in Lightroom is an excellent way to back-up your catalog file, but it will not make backups of your photos. -

My internal hard drive isn't being recognized on my macbook pro but when I put the HD in my Mac Pro (desktop), the desktop computer recognizes the HD. When I insert the installer CD on my laptop, it also doesn't recognize my hard drive. Please help! Thank you!

I bought a new computer and downloaded my lightroom 4 to it. When I installed the program it asked for my serial number and I imputed it. Then it asked for my previous serial number from my original lightroom 3 purchase. Since I upgraded to lightroom 4 I don't have the serial number for the version 3. How do I get the serial number from my 3 version so I can activate my version 4 program
If you have Lightroom 3 still installed, you can get it from there.
If you don't and you have your box/disk, it should be on there.
IF you don't have either of those,and you registered your software, you can log into your Adobe account and retrieve it there. -
Cannot add a new reminider. I am using and Iphone5, version 6.0.2. When I press the reminder app on the phone there is no "+" sign to input a reminder. When I use Siri it says "sorry I wasnt able to create reminder".
