I am using Lightroom 4 on a MacBook laptop computer.  When backing up the catalogue the process froze.  I can't shut the program down nor can I restart my computer.  What do I need to do?

I am frozen in the Lightroom 4 'Backing up Catalogue' process.  What do I do?  I am using a MacBook laptop.  Because I cannot get out of Lightroom I cannot shut down my computer.

How long has the backup been running? Have you "optimised" your catalog lately?? Did you have "optimise" and "check Integrity" checked in the back up menu? Which OSX version?
The simplest solution is to turn off your Macbook with the on/off button...
