I am waiting for a new iMac with two drives: SSD conventional hard drive. How can I transfer only a certain number of applications to the SSD and the rest to the physical hard disk drive?

I am expecting a new iMac (i7 with SSD). How can I transfer only certain applications along with the system, library etc. to this limited (space) HD and other applications to the conventional disk HD in order to save space on the SSD?

That may not be the best solution. Many updaters expect apps, especially Apple apps, to be in the /Applications folder on the OSX drive; if there are updates, the apps may not be found, thus may not be updated. I don't know if the installers/updaters will follow a symbolic link or not.
DItto some apps, especially Adobe apps, won't even work if they're anywhere else. Again, I don't know if they'll follow a symbolic link, either.

OK. You can upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion if you wish. But you will need to upgrade RAM once you get to Snow Leopard - 10.6.x and above. Here's the requirements:

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What a crappy design. This is where Android is so much better. It seems to me like you have no control over your iPhone. It does whatever Apple has designed it to do without asking you first. On Android you can actually go in see all folders, document files, photo files etc and you have so much more control of everything. Apple s..cks!

Take the exernal drive appart. Take out the harddrive. Try reading the data via a usb adapter. Put a household finan on the hd.

The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases: File>Transfer Purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintan a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion. Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back.

I got mine today! One day early.
It rocks. Just *** to have to wait on setup and all of my crap to transfer over firewire. Now I am waiting on the
imac to update its os so i can install bootcamp. one more hour of waiting as my slow dsl drips data into this cool new machine.
Web surfing is way faster than on my g4 mini.
Pages load in a snap. They render instantly.
One thing that i hated with the mini was the bootleg keyboard and mouse.
Apple stuff is so much better. And compared to my last imac dv - this thing is tiny and silent. What a great piece of hardware with an awesome chipset! Happy customer.

Paragon Drive Copy Pro may be able to help you. From their spec sheet you can migrate your PC to a virtual environment like Virtual Box or VMwareFusion. I would contact their support and find out if there are any issues with Mac OSX.

Error 150:30 on new iMac with Yosemite

I upgraded from an 8-year old iMac to a new iMac with Yosemite. After migrating everything over, I can't run PSE because it said some files were missing. I re-installed the software using my original disk. Then I got a 150:30 Error. Help!

You can never, never migrate an installed copy of PSE. It's just too complex and has bits scattered all over your hard drive. Unfortunately, one of the things that does migrate is the file that tells PSE it's not on the authorized drive anymore. To deal with this at this point you will need to download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
After which you can go around and manually remove all the bits of PSE that you can find, not only from Applications, but also from the library at the top level of your hard drive>application support>adobe, and your username>library>preferences. Spotlight will not help you here; it's programmed to skip these kinds of files. If you need help finding those libraries, post back.
