I am wanting to give my Iphone 4 to a friend.

I am wanting to give my Iphone 4 to a friend and was wondering what I need to do to whip the phone clean from all my data?  Do I just remove my SIM card?

Restore it as new or erase all content and settings.

Place the device in DFU mode (google it) and restore as new.

  • Want to give the iphone to my wife... several questions

I bought an iphone about a month ago, just to test it out. My wife has a Sprint phone that she hates, and so I want to give her the iphone, but I have a few questions:
-Can I transfer her cell number to this phone? The phone number on the iphone is not one we are concerned with keeping for any of our other phones.
-If I can, I'd like to keep the billing info under my name, as it is now. Can I?
-I want her to be able to use her computer as the sole docking station. Up until now, it is docking only to my computer. Possible? I know that all info on the iphone presently will go away (contacts, etc).
    Thanks!

-Can I transfer her cell number to this phone? The phone number on the iphone is not one we are concerned with keeping for any of our other phones.
Sure but this will require contacting AT&T customer service prior to canceling your Wife's Sprint account. AT&T will handle the porting of your Wife's Sprint phone number to this iPhone while canceling your existing AT&T number. Do not contact Sprint to cancel your Wife's account - AT&T will handle the entire number porting process which will cancel your Wife's Sprint account automatically.
-If I can, I'd like to keep the billing info under my name, as it is now. Can I?
Not a problem - AT&T doesn't need to know anything about this - only that you are porting a number from Sprint to this iPhone.

Yes - you can erase all data and settings on the iPhone prior to giving this iPhone to your Wife.

  • Wanting to give old iphone to mom - HELP!

I have an original iPhone that I haven't used in years and my mom wants to use it.
When I plug it in to iTunes, it says 'iTunes could not connect to the iPhone "Kristin's iPhone" (which is what it was called) because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". I have used this iPhone with the same computer in the past!
However, on the iPhone, it only shows the keypad with 'Emergency Call' heading on top. It doesn't give me an option to enter in a passcode. (I don't remember what the passcode is, but I could try to guess what I may have used.) I do have my current At&t SIM card in the iPhone now so that it would turn on, but the SIM card is from my Blackberry Bold (current phone). I don't know if this matters or not.
All I am wanting to do is to get into my old iPhone to save my pictures to my computer, and to clear everything off for her to put her SIM card in and use it. Any suggestions?

You may want to do a complete restore of the phone. It wil wipe the phone so any data you have on it will be gone.

  • I want to give my Iphone to my sister, but it does not work with her SIM card

As far as I am aware, the phone was not locked to a particular network but never the less - the phone was bought on T-Mobile UK and she is trying to use a T-Mobile UK sim card. I wiped the phone before giving it to her. However, it is not working! Do I need to inform apple that I have given this device to somone else and they should be 'allowed' to acess the device. Do Iphones lock them seleves to one partuclaur sim card? I replaced the Iphone at the Apple store due to dropping it in some cofee.. would this of caused them to register my device to my sim in particular?
    Thanks for your help.

If you are both on the T-mobile network, the sim card should work.  If you did a Erase All Content and Settings, then she should be at the point of activation as a new device...talk to T-mobile and be sure the sim she is using is a valid sim card.

  • I want to give my iphone to my freind and thus I tried to Erase all contents and reset everything. I went settings-general-erase and reset. But while it was being processed, power supply went off. I have connected back to power but after 4 hours no repson

Can anyone advise me how long does it normally take to reset while doing- settings-general-erase and reset all settings. It has already taken 4 hours and only the apple logo is being displayed yet. I am little bit worried if the operating system will not be restored.

Use the following steps to place your device into recovery mode. If the device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
    Did you do this?
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone or iPod touch to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPhone. When you reconnect the USB cable to iPhone, the device should power on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure the battery has some charge and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If none of these works, visit your nearest Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider or wireless carrier.
    Cheers!

  • I want to give my old ipod to a friend, but I no longer have the serial #

I gave my old ipod to a friend, but we are both unsure if he can use it. I reased all of my songs, so it was blank. HIs wife has itunes but he is afraid to plug it in for fear that it will somehow affect her ipod. Do I need to somehow find the serial # (no idea how to do that) so he can register th ipod on itunes?

He does not need to register it and it will not affect her iPod. Just don't connect both of them at the same time. The serial number is on the iPod and when he connects it to his computer he can also click on the iPod in iTunes, move to the Summary tab to the right and the serial number will be displayed.

  • Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him mine. Want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address.

Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him my 4s. We want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address on 4s iPhone. Also, when I tried to change iMessage I got a message that if I deleted my id (which seemed to be the only way to get my husband's I'd there), I would not be able to receive iMessages on any device.
Would someone kindly tell me how to set up th 4s for my husband so that we can keep our info separate? It would be most appreciated! Thanks!!

    Hey Fagen!
You will want to see the following article for guidance on achieving the result you wish to achieve:
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661
I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,

  • I have an AT&T iphone 6 and want to give my AT&T 4 to my wife but she is a Sprint customer.  How involved would it be to convert my 4 from AT&T to Sprint?

I Have an AT&T iPhone 6 and wants to give my AT&T 4 to my wife but she is a Sprint customer.  Is this possible and, if so, how involved is it to convert my 4 from AT&T to Sprint?

    Likely not possible.
Sprint is a CDMA carrier which typically do not support BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) .
You will have to ask Sprint if they can offer service on a unlocked GSM Phone that does not have the CDMA chip.
Its unlikely they will though.  But if they do, you will need to request AT&T unlock your iPhone so you can insert a Sim card form another carrier into it

    Hi
I have a new powerbook and want to give my girlfriend my old G4 power book, she has a new iphone 5s, and wants to create a new itunes/apple id. When i try to de authorize the G4 and sign in with her new apple ID it says bad password, how can i release the G4 from my cluster of authorized apples and make her the owner so she can download music and more importantly sync her music with her phone, she only has 3 songs on her iphone, and loaded all her CD's into the g4 but cant sync, im no dummy and this shouldnt be hard, but its driving me crazy!!!!!!
thx u so much for your time heeeellppppp.

Perhaps, as we have the same music tastes, for now i should just authorize her phone to my power book just to sync music, not pics, contacts etc? I'd hate to overright her contacts etc lol????

  • I just purchased 2 new iPhones for my wife and I and set them up. We want to give the old phones to our kids, with the ability to share all the songs in my iTunes account. How do I want to give new names so our old phones sync with our kids names?

Sorry for the long intro question.  I just bought a new iPhone 5S for me and a new 5C for my wife.
We want to give our kids my old 4S and my wife's old 4.  We backed up our old phones and restored
our info to our new ones, but when we connect our old phones, they still show all our songs and iTunes
settings on them (along with the same names as our new ones).
We want to set up our old iPhones for our kids to be able to have their own names on theirs so that
when we connect to my iTunes computer, it sees each phone accordingly, and has only the songs
that they select (whereas I want to keep ALL my songs in my iTunes account on mine, not just some).
    How do I do this?

    You are most welcome
