I an sick sick SICK of getting offers for updates that disrupt my browsing!!!!

I try to look at a website, any website, and BLINK up comes an offer for a Firefox update. Usually a video or media update. I DO NOT WANT ANY UPDATES! Least of all those that disrupt my browsing. How do I get the darn things out of there? It is NOT a minor distraction; it comes up every fifteen seconds. I never had the trouble with other browsers. Clearly installing updates does not stop the gadflies.

This is not from the Firefox browser or from mozilla.org as Mozilla would never provide any video or media updates. The closest Mozilla has to video related products is https://wiki.mozilla.org/Shumway but its a wip still.
Those look like Ads that can come in site popup or redirects. Variations of this scam have popped up over time from a number of sites for long while now. They even do similar ones with Flash, IE and Chrome icons used to make it look legit for those apps. All this to convince inexperienced users on Windows in download something that will then infect their computer.
Anytime you see these pages with the Firefox icon you can report them at http://www.mozilla.org/legal/fraud-report/ and due to their misleading use of the Firefox icon to try and look legitimate. This link can be found on bottom of many mozilla.org pages.
Firefox updates are done in Firefox itself on Windows, Mac OSX and Linux or by download from mozilla.org not by some .exe served on a random site.
So you know, Firefox 33.0 is being released Tuesday Oct 14. Update prompts in Firefox may start then but be limited unless you manually check in Help > About.

By the way, there are a lot of downloader add-ons that don't have the compatibility problems that have plagued the Realplayer add-on.

I keep getting notifications for emails that disappear

I have been regularly getting notifications for emails that disappear. After a purchase, maybe, I'll see a brief notification pop-up in the upper right part of my screen announcing an expected email has arrived. I go to Apple Mail and it's not there. Now I go back to the notifications icon at the upper right and the notification that just popped up is nowhere to be found.
This is driving me crazy.
I've rebuilt my Mail indexes, I've quit and restarted, and I've tried various search methods. Nothing finds the missing emails. Yes, I'm looking in trash and junk. Yes, I've tried to use Spotlight.
What the heck is going on?

Thank you so much! It's updating now. I'm hoping that once the update is finished that it will sync like normal as well. Of course I'm still a bit confused/concerned about how it refused to update on it's own, but for now that's not a problem. Hopefully from now on there won't be any more problems.

Getting letters for items that have been removed from my credit report

I have gotten several credit cards in the past month as I have been working on rebuilding my credit. Over the past few weeks I have been receiving letters from collection agencies for items that have been removed from my credit report. Has anyone else had this issue? Should I just throw this stuff away since it's not longer being reported on my credit report and the collections are so old they've been removed from the report? I am freaking out a bit. Any advice is welcome.

I am running 4.0 version, and each time I open Firefox, I get a software update that says "Downloading Firefox / connecting to the update server", but it just STICKS there??? Why is this happening?

I am running Firefox 4.0 version, but for some reason, it tries to download updates and then gets stuck on trying to connect to the update server. This has been happening the past few days. When I close the update, I can proceed in Firefox without incident (that I know of).

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.

* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.

Getting notifications for apps that no longer exist

Other than deleting the app (which I don't wanna do), is there any other way to get App Store to stop displaying the "1" badge? It's rather annoying, especially when the app is no longer available to be updated.

Try closing the App Store app completely and then re-open it to see if it refreshes the available updates : from the home screen (i.e. not with App Store 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the App Store app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
