I recently went Wireless with airport express(Sat 4/14). It is working fine with my iPad2, but for some reason, I don't understand it seems like my iMac loses the network and I have to go find it again. choose it, set the security and give it my password. Fortunately I have the ridiculously long password in keychain so I can paste and copy easily on the mac. I have it set to remember the network. This has happened twice today and once yesterday there must be a way to fix it. Seems to happen after I use the iPad but I would think that is coincidental, not the cause. And when it last happened it told me there was no connection, but the airport router was steady green and the modem it is attached to (Comcast) had all its lights steady. And my iPad found the network also, but it took several attempts to rejoin the mac, so I thought the problem is probably with something in the mac. The network is not hidden , because I tried that and then I can't connect at all to the mac or iPad. So I decided to repost my question here. Thank you.

how long is your iMovie project, because encoding process can take hours before it is done and sometime even it is shows the bar process already fully blue, but the process might still go on for a couple more minutes.
Did you get any error message during encoding process, if not, try to be more patient and let it flow by itself (at least for another hour).

I tried asking this in the recording section, but my cries went unanswered. I hope someone in this section has a clue. I recently purchased a X-Fi platinum (which I am planning to return soon if I can't get this resolved). I have been trying to record with the card first with the digital SPDIF in, then the Analog (aux 2), then the Analog in on the card itself, then on the SPDIF in the card. No matter what I try I cannot get the recording to go above -2db peak using any kind of source. Is this where the max record is supposed to hit's? It seems to be a bit weak. Every other sound card I have owned can easily get to 0db with minimal effort, especially with analog ins. Am I missing something, or is this card supposed to only go to -2db for recording? I made a recording and opened it in soundforge, and there was barely a wave form. Is my card defecti've maybe, or is it a design limitation??BTW, I did RTFMI did try maxing just about every windows mixer config I can think of. I did look through every tool (software) and config I could find that installed with this card, and I am just confounded.

If the technician at the shop is competent, he has given you a diagnosis that should have identified the problem. You could run the Apple Hardware Test to verify the findings:

Go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites. They have parts and installation instructions. To install an Airport card is fairly easy.

Only one variant of the PowerMac G4 could use the faster Airport Extreme Card. The rest used the original Airport card that is pretty slow.

There are USB solutions also. However, all PowerMac G4 towers had only slower USB 1.1 ports, so any USB wireless adaptor can only run at about wireless 'B" speeds (slow) unless you also install a PCI USB 2.0 adaptor card. Doing that would allow a USB wireless adaptor to run at its maximum rated speed. These items working together would accomplish that:

Each approach has its advantages. The PCI wireless card is a one-piece solution that takes up no desk space. I'm ready to help the FOSS community , but I can't find a proyect.

I've been working as a C# developer for the last 5 years and using linux for about the same time. One of my goals for the 2011 is to start developing FOSS in my spare time. Maybe in python, I find it interesting.
However , there are some problems that I am facing:
1) The proyect: every proyect I found is too big , or too complex , or too boring. Maybe I'm missing something , maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. I don't know , Exaile was the closest to a interesting proyect that I found , but after reviewing the code , I couldn't understand the gstreamer logic (I mean , that's the core of the app , right?).
2) My "coworkers": I'm used to work everyday in the same office and and have a close relationship with them. I don't know how to react to this change and how does the other developers could/would react to a new developer coming to the proyect (I mean , "hey guys , i fixed these bugs and added the 2 things for the next milestone. Btw , I'm Andres" seems wierd lol).
I think I'm not the first one having these problems , so any feedback would help me.

I agree, Python is very interesting. I made my first Python application a few months ago. It was easy to use, fun, and I think using Python helped me to become a better C programmer.

My suggestion: choose a project where you need to learn one thing at a time.
There are languages (examples: Python, C), libraries (examples: GTK, Qt), and programming paradigms. (examples: GUI programming, threaded programming) When you begin working on a project, you will probably need to learn something new. Try to learn only one thing at a time. For example, if you have to learn gstreamer and GTK (two libraries) at the same time then you might become frustrated. Or, if you have to C++ and Qt (a language and a library) at the same time then you might become frustrated.
So, try to learn one thing at a time.

I love working online with FOSS developers! It feels like I'm talking to a celebrity. You know, like when Allan or Dusty posts a reply to me on the Arch Linux forums.
Of course, you should join the mailing list and bug tracker for the project you want to work on. I don't usually introduce myself. Instead, I just start helping, and people will know me soon.
My FOSS experience
Here are some examples from my FOSS experience.
Many years ago, I wanted to write a new FOSS application. I couldn't think of any new applications to make, so I decided to make a video game. There are NEVER too many video games.
I learned many things by making video games:
Languages: C, Objective-C, Java, Assembly, Ada
Libraries: Allegro, SDL, Java SWING
I've submitted many bug reports to many different projects, such as wxWidgets, Allegro, Udiskie, and Haiku. I really like submitting bug reports and working with the developers to fix the problem. It's easy to do and I get to use better software.
I maintain some AUR packages. (very easy, but it helps FOSS)
I helped write the documentation for some software from the Arch Linux community, such as Packer and Udiskie. I've contributed to the Arch Linux wiki.
Recently, my wife and I wanted a new application for budgetting. I decided to write one. I used Python and wxWidgets. It works pretty well. My next goal is to convert it to C++ and wxWidgets, and then make a version for Haiku using C++ and the Haiku API.
Interesting things
You should definiteley work on something that you think is interesting. To me, that's Arch Linux, Haiku, bug reports, and documentation. Try to find things that are interesting to you!
Lastly, don't make your goal too big and don't try to do too much. There are many many people helping in FOSS. If everyone does a little bit, then we can make something great.

Have you opened Acrobat and gone to Help>Updates to get an updated install?

If you have a 1G (first generation) iPod touch then it can only go to iOS 3.1.3. To identify yours:

Encryption wouldn't matter except for Wifi.
While 10.2 might help, there's not much you can do on the Internet these days with less than 10.4.11

How did a folder named just "Adobe", containing only something called "Acrobat.com.app"), end up in my root Applications folder?
Double clicking on "Acrobat.com.app" launches an installer that wants to install something called "AIR". What is that and what is it needed for?
What forum should I be posting this in?
A global search and searches in the Acrobat Macintosh forum were not helpful.
Can I just delete that Adobe folder or ignore it? It has identical Creation and Modified dates of January 15, 2010 17:56, which raises more questions than it answers.
Any input will be appreciated.

Maybe… kinda, sorta… There are no ".exe" files in the Mac world.
I've never downloaded or installed either Acrobat.com or Adobe AIR. It has to have been the Acrobat Reader 9.3 update for the Mac that installed that sucker on my Mac. I had certainly never seen it before.
That, on top of the inexcusable, abominably surreptitious "Growl" installed by Adobe behind my back, strengthens my resolve not to acquire any more Adobe products, free or otherwise.
What in blazes are the Adobe corporate folks thinking?

The downloaded file is the projector, not an installer; you need to make the file association manually:
move the downloaded exe file to a location you can remember, e.g. C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
right-click on a swf file and select Open with > Choose default program
navigate to the folder you saved the player and select flashplayer_13_sa.exe

I have the airport express but don't have the airport utility nor the CD. cAN i DOWNLOAD THIS? i WANT TO ADD SECURITY TO MY WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION

My son gave me his airport express router and I use it to connect to the internet, but I cannot add the security since I don't have the CD that contains the Airport Utility (didn't even konw what this was until I checked apple website). Can I download this or do I need to order the CD? Any other options?
