Edit > Preferences > Store check Music under Automatic Downloads.
Open the iTunes Store from left hand column, then select Purchasedfrom the column on the right, click the Not In My Library button and select the tunes you want to download again.
That said, you seem to be under a misapprehension as to how iTunes works, or at least how it has worked in the past. It has, until recently, been up to you take care of your purchases once they have been downloaded. You had a one-time download which you were reminded to back up. With the recent change to this policy you can at least download your store purchases again, but having a personal backup of your iTunes store purchases, stuff purchased elsewhere and files ripped from your CDs will still be preferable to gathering all the stuff together again in the event of a disaster.

My old computer died and I've installed my photoshop elements 10 on the new one and have imported all my photos. WHat I can't figure out is how to get my tags and albums back. I had a Norton backup of my old computer so all of the data is available. I just need help figuring out how to link it up with photoshop on the new computer. Anyone have experience with this issue?

Important: The first time you connect iPod nano to a computer that it’s not synced with, a message asks if you want to sync songs automatically. If you accept, all songs, audiobooks, and other content are erased from iPod nano and replaced with songs and other items from that computer.You can prevent iPod nano from syncing when you connect it to a computer other than the one you usually sync with.
Turn off automatic syncing for iPod nano:
In the iTunes Summary tab, deselect “Open iTunes when this iPod is connected,” and then click Apply.
If you turn off automatic syncing, you can still sync by clicking the Sync button.
Transferring purchased content to another computer
Content that you purchase in iTunes on one computer can be transferred from iPod nano to an iTunes library on another computer. The other computer must be authorized to play content from your iTunes Store account.
Authorize another computer:
Open iTunes on the other computer and choose Store > Authorize This Computer.mm
Transfer purchased content to another computer:
1 Open iTunes on the other computer and choose Store > Authorize This Computer.
2 Connect iPod nano to the newly authorized computer.
3 In iTunes, choose File > Transfer Purchases from iPod.

I did, and it said 'Success!' but when I click play, it brings up the dialog box again telling me to authorize the computer. When I enter my info in again, it says it's already authorized. It sounds as though you are experiencing an issue with an Apple ID and authorizations. Based on your post, it sounds like you are familiar with the authorizing and deauthorizing process. The Apple ID in question (your wife's email) may be originating from the iPhone you are attempting to update. Is it possible that your wife created an Apple ID or iCloud account which is signed in on that iPhone? But it seems the OP has a setup where the media is on the external drive, and the library files are on the internal. This is what I refer to as a split library, Migrating such from one computer to another is not straightforward. Often iTunes will have some definite idea about where the files should live, and updating the setting of the media folder won't change that. If it requires a drive letter change that is usually not too hard, but sometimes there is another preference file that needs tweaking to indicate which of the old & new layouts for the library is being used. In more extreme cases I have a script for automatically making track by track repairs.

All of my library plays on my MAC and Apple TV, but some of the newer shows and movies on my IPAD 2 show "cannot open content not authorized" . If I download them directly to my IPAD they will play. iPad and MAC are all up to date. I have restarted the IPAD 2 and MAC multiple times.

Have you copied your content over from your old computer and onto the new on ? If not, and you still have your old computer, then there a number of methods described on this page which you can use to copy your library over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 . If you no longer have your old computer then have you got a backup of your content that you can copy onto the new computer and add into iTunes ?

The music sync is one one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases. File>Transfer Purchases

The iPhone is not a storage device. iPhone is designed to sync with 1 computer and
iPhone sync only one way computer -> iPhone except content bought from iTunes.

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

I want to be able to sync my iPhone 5 to my new iTunes library (new computer) and erase old music. When I connect my iPhone I have no option to "erase and sync."

So I have the iPhone 5. My old computer crashed so I ended up purchasing a new computer and re-installing and downloading all my old music and new music.
When I connect my iPhone to my new computer I can sync music but the old music still remains on my iPhone as well as the new music.
There's a lot on the phone that I don't want anymore but I can't seem to figure out how to erase it.
I don't want to restore the iPhone so I don't lose all my old messages and so forth.
I have all of the latest updates for the iPhone and well as iTunes.
If anyone has any answers to help that would be awesome!

Hey there,
It sounds like you are not getting the prompt to erase and sync your device. This indicates to me that Manual Syncing was enabled on the original iTunes Library, and becuase of that it is also now enabled on your new computer.
This is changable in the Summary tab of iTunes when you have your device selected, and this article will help you do that:

Connect the device to your computer.
Open iTunes.

The iPod is not a storage device, all songs should reside on a computer and you can only sync to one machine. However, if these songs were purchased from iTunes you can reload them (see link). If not, and you have no backup, then they are gone.
