I beg to moderators read it!

I am tired of cheap talk.
I will not ask for JB.
I am just wonder if Sony could release a 3.x kernel to help open source community. To help custom rom developers to implement the butter features in their rom. To enable V-Sync and Triple Buffering.
Only that. A 3.X kernel, all the other jobs the developers will do. You will make the xda community, fxp, aokp, kang, miui and etc. happy!
ONLY a 3.x KERNELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Firstly I would like to say that you Samuel was the best moderator that ever answer me in this forum. I am not complain about the others, but your information proved useful.
I would like to say that I understood the Sony prioritization decision, to not delay the ICS releases. But right now, many of the customers are arguing about the no JB update decision.
As for me, that tried several custom roms using JB (CM10, AOKP and etc.) , the main challenge for them is the kernel 3.x. Because without it, JB seems to be useless because the 3.x kernel enables the v-sync. Triple buffering without v-sync doesn't make any sense for me. The devs there are doing a great job, even so few comparing to another dev teams from other OEMs. No dev tried to developer the 3.x kernel, because they lack of resources to do it. Like you said it takes time, imagine for the FXP team without the libs and etc. They are doing a good job, and here I am not asking for HDMI lib or etc that might be classified for Sony. But we just wanna a 3.x kernel that would give us the chance to taste JB with no bugs, running with full butter. I beg you again, give us a chance. It would regain the company view among the customers that bought a 2011's Xperia. My Xperia Neo would enjoy the chance to taste butter. We just need a kernel, a source that we might work. PLEASE, PLEASE, look at XDA community everybody is sad because all the JB roms suffers because the lack of 3.x Kernel.
We have a few places we can start because there are msm7x30 devices that have a fully working 3.0kernel. Here some links that could help you, from other OEMs:
https://github.com/Flemmard/htc7x30-3.0
https://github.com/KangBangKreations/KangBanged-7x30
Please I beg, take a look, Sony doesn't need to develop a rom, just we need is a kernel my friend. Let us developers do the rest of the job.
I believe all the 2011 users will be happy. Sony will gain more respect from all the users. Sony will help the dev community. It will be the clear signal that Sony doesn't left us. Imagine that. It would be awesome. Sony only will gain.

Dears,
I am not sure where to post my question.. W e don't even hase a sub-forum for BASIS WHAT A SHAME .Thomas Zloch posted on my first ever post on SDN by this:

Dear all,
Please let me know why the Splash screen is stretching to fit the window on CRM (Dev and prod) and on ECC-Prd but not on ECC-Dev.
I uploaded the same image on both the servers via the t-code smw0 and made an entry START_IMAGE in the table SSM_CUST.
This is not a CRM vs. ECC issue as, when I transfer the requests from Dev to Prod for both CRM and ECC the ECC-Prd image also distorts just as it does in CRM-Dev (and CRM-Prod). So out of the four servers above, I can only see the image as I want, in ECC-Dev. Please let me know why is this.
Thanks.

Quote ends.
Please let me know where to post my question as this is not related to Netweaver and is a BASIS question for ECC.
Thanks.
Charles.

You posted this in "ABAP General". It is certainly not directly related to ABAP development. Regarding the correct forum, my suggestion was one of the "SAP Netweaver" forums. The term "Basis" is a bit outdated since a while, to my knowledge.
Maybe some "Basis" expert will see this discussion and suggest the correct home. I also invite you to study the brief content description for each forum, a good starting point is the forum overview for an entire category.
Example: [SAP Netweaver|/community [original link is broken];
Also search for previous discussions of similar topics using the search function. This will give you an idea about the appropriate forum.

• Apple Windows iTunes Developers: Please Read

Seriously, as a professional software engineer, can I BEG you to read http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/s3w9x78e(VS.80).aspx. Its really not a difficult function, ALL, and I MEAN ALL of your I/O belongs in a THREAD! You can use http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/9tdesxec(VS.80).aspx to update your progress dialogs. Its THAT simple. Yes, it is. Read it again, and again, and again, heck heres, a highly oversimplified example!!! Yes, feel free to use any of that...There is NO GOOD REASON as a WINDOWS APP to grab the focus EVERY 10 SECONDS! Thats just a hack to prevent windows from saying this program is not responding, and any developer sees right through it. Quit with the lazy programming, and put your I/O in a thread where it belongs (or I suppose ASynchronous I/O would be acceptable), and stop interrupting me every 10 seconds while my iPhone updates! Seriously!!! Knock Knock? Who's there? Interrupting Jeeves. Interrupting Jee....INTERRUPTING JEEVES!!!!!! yeah, iTunes is kinda like that, over and over and over again. Even better to note, the windows API for threads mostly maps pretty easily to POSIX threads, so you could do something VERY similar to the thread portion of that code, and have it work on both platforms. I've written thin POSIX layers for windows with some inline functions, and a lot of #defines. Or, you could just use a cross platform system like QT. Its LGPL now, it works on Mac OSX, Linux, and Windows, same code compiles on all three. You could easily bring iTunes to linux and open up a whole new market! That might be the smart thing to do....probably why I do stuff like this every single day...
Seriously though, and I mean seriously, PUT YOUR I/O IN A THREAD!!!!!!!!
----Begin oversimplified code example-------

Hi Ritam,
For such issues, can you please create a new thread or directly email the author rather than dragging back up a very old thread, it is unlikely that the resolution would be the same as the database/application/etc releases would most probably be very different.
For now I will close this thread as unanswered.

• Help, I am killing myself trying to do this and I need help ASAP

I need help with this program it has to act like a cash register. The user will input an items price and then their payment. It will tell you the change and then tell you what kinda of change to use, see example below:
Use JOptionPane to take inputs from the user and display the results.
Example:
If the user enters
Amount Due = 5.52 // First Input from the User
Amount Given = 10.00 // Second Input from the User
Calculate the Balance Due
Balance Amount = $ 4.48
and display the balance due in denomination as (The following four lines will be ONE Output to the user)
$1 bill = 4 (4.00)
Quarters = 1 (0.25)
Dimes = 2 (0.20)
Pennies = 3 (0.03)
This last part, where you display the change that will be given back, ie: how many quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies is the part I am having problems with.
Can some one help? Please pardon my coding abilities, I am still learning how to do this and would really appreciate any help you can with my program.
Thanks in advance.
import javax.swing.*;
import java.text.*;
public class CashReg
{ //Start
public static void main (String [] args)
{ //Start Main
int count = 0;
char c1 = 0;
String price = null;
String payment = null;
String change = null;
boolean correct = false;
while(!correct)
{ //Start Loop
price = JOptionPane.showInputDialog (null,"Enter the amount of the item for purchase");
if (price.length() < 1) //Loop
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, "You did not enter a purchase amount, try again please.");//Error message
payment = JOptionPane.showInputDialog (null,"Enter your payment amount.");
if (payment.length() < 1) //Loop
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, "You did not enter a payment amount, try again please.");//Error message
else

for (int i=0; i<price.length(); i++)
if (Character.isUpperCase(price.charAt(i)))
count++;
} //End loop
// response = price - payment;
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, "You item costs "+price+" and you payed "+payment+" and your change will be "+change);
System.exit(0);
} //End Main
} //End

OK, thanks for your help, but I need some more. I have the program running and showing the amount of change that is going to be returned. But I don't know how to display the kind of change. AKA, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. I am a programming idot, my teacher is letting us twist in the wind. He is not explaining the concepts behind any of this. You are saying the word "logic" and I don't know what that means. This assigment is due Monday, I just need some help with the last part. How to show the change. I am just plain lost. please help.

Hi Everyone, I am new to Java Programming.
I wanted to know if there is a way to get all the images in a website and put them in a listbox. And if an item is clicked in list box, view it in a picturebox.

• I bought an iPhone 5 off of craigslist, which unbeknownstome was stolen

Before I start, I just want to let everyone know that I know exactly what most of you will say, but I beg you to read this with an open-mind and understand where I'm coming from and my position. I am also a victim in this situation, just like the girl whose phone was stolen.
I bought an iPhone 5 from somebody on Craigslist who told me it was his girlfriend's phone which he was selling. Prior to me buying it from him, I interogated the guy asking him all sort of different questions such as the reason he was selling the iPhone 5 and condition of the phone and the guarantee, etc. I wanted to make sure it was not a stolen phone or a messed up phone that was no working properly. I freshly remember it being a 10-minute conversation covering all of that,so I want to make clear, that I indeed had no idea it was a stolen phone.
Now, as soon as I had bought the phone from the guy I went to a redpocket store to try and activate it with their nano sim card, and that's when I came across with the iCloud Activation Lock with a message which said something along the lines "This is a lost phone, please call me" with the number written down. As soon as I saw that, I called the guy who sold me the phone to ask him what the heck that was about, but he did not reply and that's when I realized I had been officially scammed. I contacted the original owner of the phone and we talked for hours comparing notes on the guy and sharing our story about how her phone was stolen and how I bought the phone from this guy etc. She told me she already had a new phone(iPhone 5S) but she still had a lot of photos on that phone and that she wants to see if she can recover it somehow so she wanted me to return it her phone and she would give me $100 recompense. When she offered that deal I was torn...cause I did not feel like it was a fair deal, but at the same time I wanted to help her. So I eventually made it clear that I wasn't too happy with that deal so she actually came up with a new one...
"Give me $200 and you can keep the phone, but we would have to meet at an Apple store, that way I/they can make sure all my memory is wiped out"
I don't know if it's just me, but it sounds too risky. Do you guys think she might try to pull one under me and try to stay with the phone without me getting something in return? God knows who she might show up with. Can she do that? When it comes down to it, I am not the person who stole her phone...like I said, I am a victim, just like her and all I wanted was to work something out which would be fair for the both of us. I could have easily sold it forward to another person for the same price I was scammed, but I didn't cause I don't do unto others what I don't want others to do unto me. So just think about that before you all yell at me saying "RETURN HER iPHONE BACK!!!!11111"
So yea, this is basically a post for ideas and suggestions about what I should do.

It's rare that Craigslist phone scam victims like yourself are able to identify or get in touch with the original owner.
Given that you're in contact with the original owner and you both can identify the thief I think the police might be able to help in this situation. If the original owner is willing to file a police report about the stolen phone and you're willing to turn it in to the police then the distict attorney would have an "open and shut" case with the evidence (iPhone) and testimony of the proper original owner (victim) and testimony from the buyer (victim). Get her to put in writing a summary of the situation where she identifies you as a victim and identifies the thief. If you can get her to get that Affidavit notarized at a Notary Public then that protects you to some degree.
Depending on the situation you might just get back in touch with the ex-boyfriend at that point and tell him point blank you have a legal notarized Affidavit identifying him as a thief and seller of stolen goods and you'll take it to the police and District Attorney if he doesn't refund your money in full. Then get your cash, return the phone to the proper owner, and then if she can get it reactivated buy it from her or take your cash elsewhere.
If you and the gal go the police and present an open/shut case eventually the iPhone (evidence) will be returned to the gal after the boyfriend is convicted and if you're a party to the case you may get the judge to order compensation back to you of the amount of cash he stole from you via fraud. That's the ideal world, but remember we have a "legal system", not a "justice system" and anything can happen in court. I strongly suggest getting a notarized Affidavit from the gal identifying the thief and identifying you as a victim. That notarized document would provide the most protection for you in any way the situation unfolds. If the original owner reconciles her relationship with the boyfriend and declines to press charges against him then at least with the Affidavit the D.A. could proceed with that as her testimony and again protects you.

I run icloud email along with gmail, yahoo and hotmail all to the mail app. Thus far I've tried deleting and and reinstalling accounts. I've switched gmail to imap. I've changed apple id and passwords. I've restored factory network defaults and performed hard resets. By now all the usernames and passwords should be correct as i've re-entered the all. Nothing works. Anyone have any suggestions about what else I could try?

• My iPhone 4 no longer syncs

I live for my iPhone. I'm 16 and about 85% computer saavy and my phone has a little something extra added to it, I hope you know what I mean.
I've added that little something extra to my past iPod Touch and then my iPhone 3GS and there were no problems but now I think that it's interfering with my ability to finish a sync properly. During the syncing of the apps, the status bar eventually goes slower and slower until no progress is being made and it just stops and I have to open Task Manager and quit iTunes. Has anyone else recently had this issue or am I possibly doing something wrong?

I have tried to run the above script so I can embed a graphic in a script but when I try to display the graphic I get the message "file or folder does not exist" (BY THE WAY IT DOES EXIST THERE)
The graphic (very small and boring) that I have tried the script on is at the link below.
https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D6923127_8087569_696676
I copied your script exactly only changing the end bit to my file location and then placing the b64 into indesign to make it easy for me to copy.
// Client code
var b64 = fileToBase64("c:/image.jpg");
app.selection[0].insertionPoints[0].contents = b64;
I then copied it into my script and it gives the above error message.
When I try to display an image of your "sprite buttons" it works fine.
So I guess I'm missing out the file encoding stuff. What am I supposed to do?
#targetengine "myNewSession"
w = new Window("window", undefined, undefined, {resizeable:true, borderless:false} );
// This is the 64 bit string that I got and dosen't work :-(

P.s. I haven't figured out yet how to work with the scriptArgs to transfer variables to the doScript but I shall work on it more before I beg for mercy.

• Is anyone else annoyed that you can't open a normal file with preview in CS6 on the Windows platform

Please, please , please restore the the ability of Photoshop to open with a preview on windows machines. That is; a single click on a file from within Photoshop gives a small preview image to tell you what it is you are opening. This is crucial to professional photographers in the industry working quickly with lots of images as I do in the medical/scientific photography field.
Every other version of Photoshop has had this feature and I can tell you a lot of power users like myself are not using CS6 just because a single click doesn't preview what you are opening. My company just spent $10,000 upgrading six machines and no-one is using CS6 for work - they are sticking with CS5. CS6 is only good for 'playing around' with photos, if production is key, then to save time, we need to see what we are opening on a single click - it's a no brainer! Check the forums to see this that is true, and if you are reading this and agree with me, write and tell adobe to fix this - pronto!

Thanks for correcting my quote/unquote quotes. Yes you are right. Not a very good use of them. I took time out to look at your photos. Very nice. I also play around with photoshop on my ladscape and fine art photos when I am not trying to make a living (that is paying my mortgage, sending kids to school buying food etc). I exhibit these in galleries and enjoy the luxury of spending the extra time on them - they even sell occassionaly.
Sorry if you were offended by the use of the term playing around with photoshop. Obviously your work is very nice. Unfortunatly I cannnot show you the work I do at work because of patient confidentiallity and, quite frankly, the images are mostly gross anatomy, wounds, lots of blood - not the sort of thing I like to share unless you are a health professional.
Anyway, since you have posted, can you help me with the problem is the question I beg to ask.

• SQL Injections and XSS - Escaping Special Characters

Hi, hope someone can help in regards to security and SQL Injections and XSS.
We are using APEX 4.0.2 on Oracle 11.2.0.2.
1. It seems the special characters we have entered into normal 'Text Items' 'Text Areas' etc are not being escaped (ie <,>,&, '). If I enter them into the field (ie Surname) they are saved as is into session state and the database - no escaping. Am I missing something such as an environment setting as I thought the "smart" oracle escaping rules would cater for this.
Surely I don't have to manually do each of then.
Just to confirm, am I looking in the correct places to assess if the characters are escaped or not - ie should they show as '&<>' in session state and/or the database ?
2. Also, for the Oracle procedures such as '‘wwv_flow.accept’ , ‘wwv_flow.show’ , 'wwv_flow_utilities.show_as_popup_calendar' - do these escape special characters. If not, then they must be vulnerable to SQL Injections attacks.
Thx
Nigel

Just to pitch in, escaping values internally (either in the database or session state) is extremely problematic. Data searches, string comparison, reporting and double escaping are all areas which suffer badly when you do this.
Stripping characters on input can also cause problems if not considered within the context of the application. Names such as "O'Niel", statistical output such as "n < 300", fields containing deliberate HTML markup can be annoying to debug. In certain situations stripping is totally ineffective and may still lead to cross-site scripting.
Apex applications that share the database with other applications will also be affected.
The database should contain 'raw' unfettered data and output should be escaped properly, as Joel said, at render time. Either with Apex attributes or using PLSQL functions such as htf.escape_sc() as and when required.Do not needlessly resurrect old threads. After a couple of months watches expire and the original posters are not alerted to the presence of your follow-up.

• My lumia - update

my battery problems seem to be over.... after several soft and hard resets and 3 full discharge/recharge cycles my battery seems to be adequate....managed a hardcore 42 hours of use....although the last 7 or so were on battery save mode and without data, for me it's quite remarkable. Even when the critical battery alert was on I was able to make calls ..... in the end it was needed a game to manage to drain the last bit of energy so I could complete the last cycle. After my initial week of use when I was convinced my battery is defective this is quite a nice surprise.
Still, now that the main point of concern is gone, there are some issues that make the life with the lumia hard Number one has become the ''after call freeze'', when the phone can't be put in stand by mode...the screen is always lit. Changing the screen time out time from 30 sec to 1 min (like others having this bug suggested) doesn't help.
I just hope not many other problems will arise

@ray c'mon man do you really think I cut the normal sim ?! how dumb do you think I am got a proper microsim from the carrier. I think it's more related to the problems of the phone and os....I see many people have freezes and restarts...maybe I got the least serious part of the problem
@gardener the battery is now consistent but read all my posts....it was horrible in the begging ...read what I've done. It might help you too. Still, if you're using your data service a lot and have many apps that do that as well 7 hours might be even more impressive than my 42s
