I believe I've downloaded Firefox, but I get no set up window and your icon isn't on my desktop

I have a new laptop with Windows 8. I clicked on run to download the latest Firefox, and it completed. but there's no evidence of Firefox anywhere...no desktop icon or dialogue box to set up a homepage

You mentioned in a different thread that you cannot download Flash without deleting Internet Explorer. That should not be necessary. Anyway, your "More System Details" shows that you have Flash 12 installed, so you shouldn't need to reinstall it unless we determine that it is really broken.
When on the problem site, do you see a notification icon to the left of the address, up in the address bar? It would look like a piece of Lego. Could you click that and see whether it indicates anything about the status of Flash, or any other plugin?

I've tried to troubleshoot downloading Firefox but it won't open on Windows XP. The Firefox Update box with the hour glass symbol runs for hours. Then I have trouble even shutting down. When I click on Firefox, no window, program won't quit, etc....

Windows XP. I used to use Firefox and it worked okay. I'm not sure why I downloaded a new version but it won't open. The window that says "Firefox Update" continues to try to load. I'm trying to download the latest version of firefox. I get a pop up window that asks me what to open it with. I've tried adobe reader 9, acrobate reader 5, and real player. None work

OK, I'll take you through what happens. When I click download firefox 4 I get a pop up window that asks "what should Firefox do with this file?"
Below I have two choices:
_Open with (choose)
_Save File
So I go to choose and pick an application.
So I choose Acrobate Reader 5.0. Acrobate gives me a popup that says "Acrobat could not open firefox 4.0-4.dmg because it is either not a supported file type or because the fire has been corrupted....
So I try download again (I should point out that I am currently running Firefox 3.6.16) The popup that asks me to choose a file to open firefox 4.0.dmg pops up again.
So I choose Adobe Reader 9. Nothing happens. So I cancel.
So what application should I go to to open Firefox 4.0.dmg

Sounds like there might be an issue with an application that might be causing these issues. The reason I say that is, when the phone is in Safe Mode you are able to access the Settings screens with no issues. While in Safe Mode that does block all 3rd party applications from running on the phone. What version of iTunes are you currently running? To check, in iTunes go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen. For example, I see:
iTunes: 10.5.2.11

The work offline option can be found from Firefox button -> Web developer or from the menubar toolbar -> Work offline (Or at least thats what happens in Windows).
Have you any other reason for being offline; router off, firefox not dialing up or whatever. Or is security software or a firewall blocking firefox, or a network connection, or firefox setting etc set wrongly.
