I believe my facetime on my imac is corrupted.  I cannot get past the verify screen. Is it possible to reinstall the programme?

I believe my facetime on my imac is corrupted.  When I open the programme I get the screen which indicates "preference" and that the toggle shows the programme is off.  If I toggle it on, facetime does not turn on but shows that it is trying to load(don't know if that is the right term).  Is it possible to reload the programme?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

  • IMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. Started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup. I can get into safe mode. Tried install disc for disc utility and reloaded OS. Still get blue screen.

I have an older iMac G5 running OS 10.4.11. The other day I started playing with a bluetooth speaker (may or may not be related). Now I cannot get past the blue screen on startup.
I can get into safe mode. But no regular startup.
I tried disabling bluetooth, thinking that might be related. It didn't help.
I even tried using the install disc to run disc utility. That didn't work so I reloaded the OS.
But I still get hung on the blue screen when trying a normal startup.
    All help would be appreciated.

Try resetting the PMU/SMU and PRAM/NVRAM. You'd need to identify the mode of resetting depending on the model of your G5 iMac. The Apple support sites that would help you for this are –

  • After finally getting my imac from fedex,  cannot get past the Update Apple ID and to use ICloud I have to change my app  id.  okay, but the red keeps saying that email address is already being used.  is it because I am on the apple site on a netbook pc?

On the Update Apple ID screen to use ICloud, I get a red message that email address is already being used.  It does not accept my email address?  I do not understand what the screen is asking me.  Is this because I am using the apple ID on a netbook for this note or what.
Is there a way to bypass this screen if I don't want to use ICloud?  I don't want to screw up the original setup of my imac.  If I could get to the desktop, then I would know what OS and programs are in my machine.

Hi, hopefully you've called Apple on this... you have 90 days free phone support.

  • My iMac starts, but won't get past the loading screen?

My iMac starts up, but won't even get past the white screen with the Apple logo.
It kept giving me black screens, and would not start in safety mode. After command + option + p + r, the black screens stopped coming, but it still won't get past the loading screen, if I let it load long enough the Apple logo is replaced by a "denied" symbol but that is the only thing that happens. By hitting command + d, I was told nothing is wrong. When pressing command + r and going to disk utility, it found an issue while verifying and repairing. At first it stated "invalid journal" but now it only says to reinstall everything and that the problem couldn't be solved. I cannot mount the harddrive, and Time Machine just searches for copies without getting anywhere. When I try installing OS X (Mavericks) again, the harddrive doesn't even show up. What do I do?

The HD sounds like it has crashed, take it into your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), if you bought AppleCare this will be covered. If you don't have an Apple Store in your area and don't know of any AASPs then please click https://locate.apple.com/country to begin finding one.

  • Help bought a used imac and cannot get past the passwords.

The support tech said that I could probably get assistance from someone here. I bought the computer from the goodwill two days ago and it is password protected with two user names. Ever time I turn on the computer it goes to choose user and enter password. I don't know how to get beyond this point and the support tech said that since the computer is a 2000 model and passed the warrinty period It would cost me $49.00. I don't have the money for this, that is the reason I went and bought a used computer. So if you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated. I didn't know which board to post this on so if in in the wrong one I apologize.

    Hi Rhonda,
You must first find exactly what type of computer you own, running which OS.
If your Mac is a 2000 model, your original install CDs should be Mac OS 8.6 or Mac OS 9.0.4.
It's possible though, that you have a version of Mac OS X installed.
You'll find a better help in the iMac G3 or the PowerMac G4 forums.
    Good luck!

  • My new iMac had the old data transferred in-store but now it won't accept the password on the first screen. How can I reset this? I can't get past the first screen as a result.

I cannot get past the initial screen on my new iMac. Data was transferred from my old computer so when I turned it on It automatically had my name in the window and asked for the password, but none of my old passwords seem to be accepted. How can I fix this?? It's a new IMac with osx.

Which password isn't working? The one to access the iPad or the one to get your hotmail?
If hot mail, you go into the settings, mail, contacts and calendars and edit your hot mail account. Of if it won't edit, delete it off the iPad, then re-add it with the new password.

  • IMac will not get past chime & white screen

iMac will not get past chime & white screen. I have tried all the start up key combinations I can think of (d or c etc) with a start up disc, but no joy. The disc drives seems ok - you can hear it working & it will eject OK.
Any other start up ideas, please?

Have you tried a safe boot? If not, hears how (it's straight from Mac Help):
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
Be sure the computer is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.
To learn more about Safe Boot check this page:

  • How do I get past the "could not sign in" alert activating Facetime

I've got Facetime working on my iPhone, Macbook Pro, iPad, but my Mac Pro does not cooperate. When I try to sign in with my Apple ID (the same one I use for the Macbook Pro) I get the following warning: Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.
My network connection is alright, or else I could not have posted this question. All devices are connected through Wi-Fi, only the Mac Pro is on LAN.
Does anyone know how to get past the "could not sign in" alert during Facetime activation? I've searched this forum but no solution here worked.
Thanks in advance for any help.

So I thought: let's try the link Carolyn Samit suggested. So I got to Apple - Support - FaceTime to find information I already knew, about port forwarding I had already tried:
    443 (TCP)
    3478 through 3497 (UDP)
    5223 (TCP)
    16384 through 16387 (UDP)
    16393 through 16402 (UDP)
What's the logic anyway of opening router ports that let my Wi-Fi devices through while refusing a LAN device? What have we got here? A firewall that only protects against cables?
I guess Apple is too busy selling iPads to help a customer who's trying to use Apple software on an Apple machine.

  • My old iMac and OS 10.4 will not accept the New iTunes Version 10 application and I can't get past the screen offering to download iTunes 10.  This is wrong and I need help getting past this situation. Help!

My old iMac and OS 10.4 will not accept the New iTunes Version 10 application and I can't get past the screen offering to download iTunes 10.  This is wrong and I need help getting past this situation. Help!

Sure, you can get around it if you don't need the newest version of iTunes. I still use version 7.5 because the newer versions didn't strike me as offering anything I needed.
If you do need a version 10-something then you will have to upgrade your operating system to Leopard (fi your computer will support it) at least.  If you need 10.5 for some reason then there's no getting around it, you will have to buy a new computer.

  • Can't Install LR2 on my new iMac, it doesn't get past the validation point.  What can i do to get this installed?

I just got a brand new iMac to replace my old G4 PowerBook, however when I go to install LR2 on it I can't.  I can't even get past the validation point in the beginning of the installation.  How to I go about installing this so I can continue doing photography editing?

You cannot install or run Lightroom 2 on your new Intel-based iMac running OS X Yosemite.
Lightroom 2 was written for old PowerPC based Macs running earlier versions of OS X up to OS X 10.6.

  • I have iPad air, screen freezes after FaceTime call and cannot get back to home screen, have to power down and turn back on to get back to home screen.  What am I doing wrong?

I have iPad air, screen freezes after FaceTime call and cannot get back to home screen, have to power down and turn back on to get back to home screen.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi RWD2,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
To resolve your issue with Facetime freezing when you end a call, I would try the first three steps in the article below.
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
    Resolution
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If you are using Wi-Fi, it may be helpful to try these troubleshooting steps as well:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398?viewlocale=en_US
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!
