I book G4 Keeps resetting itself. HELP!

HI!
My IBook G4 keeps resetting it self. I have not changed a folder name or anything. When i turn the computer off and turn it back on, it is all back to the "default" settings. I have to start each application new. Like mail. in the last hour I started "mail" 4 times and had to put all my information back in. I-tunes has to restart, but my music is still there, after it gets imported.\
Now my keychain is going crazy, too. My Safari lost my bookmarks, everything.
I can't afford to loos everything, so please help me. I looked up in the help topics, but all my folders seem to be Ok.
Thanks.

...if the hard drive was erased the install discs are the only way to resolve this that I am aware of.
As an alternative, you can buy a copy of the operating system and the iLife product, which is most of what was on the original install disks that didn't come with your system. One source for unopened Apple software is hardcoremac.com.
However, it sounds like you can log onto the system, yes?  On the menu bar, towards the apple on the left, it says File.  If you click on that can you also click on "new finder window"? If yes, what does it show you?

My 60 GB ipod video just keeps resetting itself. I have tried to reset it and plug it into my computer, what should I do??

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Force an app to close: Hold down the On/Off button for a few seconds until a red slider appears,
then hold down the Home button until the app quits.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Illustrator 2014: Scratch disk preference keeps resetting itself

    Hello Illustrator community.
I have recently noticed that in my Illustrator CC 2014 18.0.0, the scratch disk preference setting keeps resetting itself. I'm using a MacBook pro with a single SSD, but I have an external Lacie Thunderbolt SSD that I got to use as the scratch disk for Illustrator and Photoshop. The problem is that if I set the scratch preference to use the external as the primary and my startup as the secondary,  everything is fine and it let's me know that the change will take effect once it's reopened. Upon reopening Illustrator I double check and it's saved, and everything works fine. But if I happen to open Illustrator without my external attached, when I check the scratch preference,  it will revert to using the startup as the main scratch location, which I understand.  But the next time illustrator is opened with my external connected, the scratch setting is still defaulted to using the startup disk. At that point I would need to change the preference, close illustrator and then reopen to make sure Illustrator is using the external as scratch.
So for some reason it's not saving my preference for the scratch disk, while all other preferences seem to be saved fine. In Photoshop CC 2014, I can set the scratch preference,  which works fine, close Photoshop and reopen without the external attached and then close and reopen with the external reattached,  and it will remember my preference for having the external as the primary scratch.
Is this just the way Illustrator is meant to work, or is this possibly a bug? Anyone have experience with this?
I used Illustrator CC 17.x.x before this but didn't notice if it operated the same way, since at that time I didn't have a dedicated scratch disk to use.
Thank you very much, I look forward to your help and replies!

The last thing Adobe AI does upon a quit is to write the existing state of the preferences file to disk. If it is using the local HD as scratch, then that is what is recorded in the preferences.

  • My IPOD keeps resetting itself

When I connect my IPOD to the computer with the updater program running, the unit just keeps resetting itself on its own. The dpdating tool give the error message "can't mount IPOD" and shuts down. As long as I have the IPOD connected to the computer it continues to reset itself. Does any one have any ideas how to fix this problem?

    hi tricky D!
hmmmm. let's try giving the technique outlined in this document a try:

  • IPod keeps reseting itself while updating

I've had previous trouble with my 60GB iPod Video, but I think this is the last problem... I am trying to update my iPod but while its updating the iPod keeps reseting itself over and over again... please help!!!

There's nothing you can do but bring it back to the store. Mine does the same thing, it just goes to show that Apple is so busy pushing these new iPods on us and releasing them too soon that the customers end up having to deal with their hardware failures---all because they didn't take the time to test these!!!

  • Finder keeps reseting itself

Our ibookG4 keeps "reseting" itself (if that's even a good description). Basically, whatever program we are on gets sent to the back as the Finder takes over. As I type this, it has happened several times that inexplicably it goes from Firefox to the Finder and I need to keep "clicking" back and forth. Don't hear any spinning so not sure what it is. Help!

    Hi jaliscoman.
The most common reason for this is to do with Stuffit and the latest security update.
    Try this:
Check in System Preferences at the bottom. If you have Stuffit AVR there select it and then the Stuffit AVR tab on the left. Select 'Stop'.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

My iPhone 5 keeps resetting itself, If I take my device in to apple what will they do and more importantly what will it cost me???

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • Iphone now it says it needs to be activated and plugged into itunes. It wont let me do anything because it keeps resetting. Help please.

I cant coonect it to the computer because the iphone keeps resetting itself and the restore or activation cannot be completed. Do I just need to get a new iphone? I have a 3gs and dont want to get a new iphone. Also the iphones sim card wont work and I have tried to do a hard reset mutiple times.

Sounds like your phone was jailbroken.  If it was, you will need to get another phone.  That phone is permanently disabled.

  • My ipod keeps resetting itself when i plug it in to the computer, now what?

Basically, I plugged my ipod into my laptop as usual and itunes sprang up with an error message that i can't quite remember. I just remember that it mentioned a file corruption and that i should either restore the ipod settings or i should disconnect and reconnect it. I reconnected it and got the same result, then tried again. This time iTunes didn't recognise it all and within a minute of being connected my ipod reset itself. The laptop registers it, but my ipod just keeps resetting itself and i don't know what to do. I've tried resetting it and restoring default settings, so what more can i do or is a repair the only option?

Follow the steps mentioned in this article to disable the camera notification: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1501 , then try again to connect to iTunes.

  • Ipod keeps reseting itself

so after i had the trouble with my ipod last week and ended up replacing it at the apple store for a small fee of $32.05, this new ipod is giving me more problems.
so this new ipod keeps reseting itself. for example, i connected it to my computer and the "do not disconnect" sign won't come off and it's not connecting to itunes. so i reset the ipod. it finally connected and then i ejected the ipod no problem. so then from now on, it resets itself, leading me to restore the ipod. so i restored it, and the problem still occured. and then i reset it again and now it's working fine.
in conclusion, does anyone have some suggestions/comments/idea for this situation?

that's EXACTLY what is happening to me. i plan to go back to the apple store very soon because i've run out of ideas as to what to do to solve this dilemma. i'm glad though i'm not the only one with this problem although i am sorry you have the problem too lol.

  • Crap... Zen Vision M keeps resetting itself

+^ I pressed the reset button while it was charging to toy with it to get off a frozen screen, and now it keeps turning itself off and on.
I've pressed the button several times more to see if it was just stuck
no change, unplugged it, pressed it, no change
please tell me I did not just screw myself over big time...

/ Well, this is a refurb that I just received the wall charger to. When I plug it it, it loads to a creative screen, then one that says Zen, and freezes with colored pixels dotting the screen. So I tried pressing the reset button just messing around with it to see if it would help, and I got it to stop auto-resetting but now whenever I press the reset button it's a toss up between it freezing, or staying in auto reset.
Also, charged overnight in the 'frozen' screen, and as far as I can tell it held no charge I tried to turn it on holding the slider over as long as a minute with no response so..
Any suggestions I've heard having it hooked up to the wall charger and USB simultaneously allowed some people to use it and update firmware (which I'm sure is another problem) but, my wall charger doesn't have a USB connection the USB port was built into a little dock that came with it, so I'm not sure how I can plug them both in

  • HT1363 when I plug my I Pod into my computer when the apple logo appears it keeps resetting itself. Why is this?

When I connect my I Pod to my computer the apple logo appears it resets itself and keeps doing it. Why is this? How can I fix it?

Did you try a hard reset? Hold the On button and the Home button until it powers down but continue to hold until it begins to power up again. See if that brings any success.

  • 30gig ipod video keeps resetting itself

my 30gig ipod video keeps resetting until it runs out of battery life, if i have it connected to my pc, it just keeps resetting indefinately, and if i disconnect it, it does so until it runs out of battery.
i've already reset it manually, returned it to factory conditions, I dont know what else to do, any help at all would be appreciated.

    Hello eonitwat,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try manually forcing the iPod into Disk Mode and then reconnecting to your computer. This might prevent the iPod from continuously rebooting to allow you enough time to try and reformat the iPod completely using the tools provided by Windows.
Here are instructions on how to reformat your iPod on WIndows. The instructions are for Vista and XP, but you'll find that Windows 7 is very similar to Windows Vista.
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml
If still no luck, you may want to consider having the iPod serviced.
    Worth a shot.
