I books contents gone after restore

How do I get books and PDFs back on my I pad after a forced restore? After I synced, the apps were there, Nook and Kindle books present, but no PDFs or I books in the I book app. that's a lot of $$ lost. help

1) Today Itunes prompted me to update the OS on the IPAD.
2) It warned me to back up IPAD before I did.  I did
3) I updated software.
4) It returned with an error saying it could not install software and I must restore to facotry settings
5) I resotored to factory settings
6) After that I attempted to restore contents of my IPAD from Itunes on my Windows 7 machine.
7) It restored only music but no applications and no other information
8) I spent all day on the phone with Apple Support who managed to get the applications restored by going through one by one and syncing.
9) It took a few hours
10) After I finished I noticed that files/documents associated with various applications like Kindle, Goodreader, Penultimate Notes were missing on the IPAD.
11) I have made a few phone calls to Apple and thy claim the following: "Apple is not responsible for restoring files or data associated with any applications, only the application itself.  It is your responsibility to contact the application developer to get your files restored."  This sounds patently absurd to me. I spent half an hour explaining the absurdity of this claim to the Apple representatives but they are firm and non-wavering in this opinion.  One even claimed that restoring does not restore applications which of course is not correct.
12) I gave them the example of MS Word on MacBook Pro. If I save/back up on another machine and then restore back to the original machine I would expect to be able to see the Word files I had created and saved.  That in particular the failure to view them would not be Microsoft's responsibility but Apple's.  They disagreed saying it would be between me and Microsoft and the Apple devices had nothign to do with saving or successful restoring.
13) So I have lost all e-books purchased on Kindle, plus all documents saved on Goodreader application, notebooks on Penultimate applications, and my children’s drawings on their drawing applications.  Apple Support say I should contact each application vendor to try and recover the missing data.  They refuse to tell me how to get it from ITUNES backup stored on my Windows 7 machine as they say it will not be there.
They have asked me to write to

Also free memory on phone is countinuesly going down (only 48MB left). Ialways install any app on mass mem. Where the phone mem. is going
    Thank you all

    Hi,
I do not really understand... Did you made a backup before restore to factory settings? And did you copy all backup files to an external device? If not, the data is gone!
Why? Restoryng to factory does not mean a reinstallation. It means to fill the whole harddisk with an image of the first (factory) installation. All other data will be destroyd! Other partitions are deleted and normally you find only one big partition - the whole hdd.
If you have a complete backup on external drive and it is corrupted during restore, try to open the files manually. Maybe you can restore some single files.
    Good luck
    kind regards

  • User accounts gone after Restoring disk

    Hello -
I am running OS 10.4.11 on a PowerMac G4 Dual 450MHz Desktop. Recently I purchased a new IDE Hard Drive to put into my computer. I wanted to make an exact copy of my old hard drive onto the new hard drive and use the new hard drive as my main startup volume. I used the Restore tab in Disk Utility to create the copy.
What happened is that none of the user account data was copied over. Even more strange is that now I cannot find any of my user account data on the original hard drive!
I used the application "Whatsize" to figure out where all the data is allocated to on the original hard drive. It only accounted for about 25GB of the 30GB of data that are being used on the hard drive. I'm guessing the remaining 5GB of data is what was in my user account, but it can't find it for some reason.
Anyhow, I guess my question is, how do I recover the data from my user account that I can't seem to find?
Also, steps I've taken so far:
    - I ran Disk Utility (from another computer using the disk in Target disk mode) to see if I could repair permissions or repair the disk. Neither Repair Permissions nor Verify Permissions were enabled for me to check - only Verify and Repair Disk. I clicked Verify Disk and got a message saying that it had failed and said that "The underlying task reported failure on exit". I then tried to Repair Disk, but got the same error. Disk cannot be verified or repaired.
    - I've also tried DiskWarrior on it, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
    Thanks,
    Steve Pederson

    Hi Steve,
I found the following in the Apple Help Viewer. Read thoroughly first to see if this might help you:
    Restoring a deleted user account
If a user's account was deleted and the contents of the user's home folder were saved, you can restore that user's account and the contents of their home folder. Saved items in the deleted home folder are stored in a disk image file (the filename ends in .dmg) in the Deleted Users folder in the Users folder on the startup disk.
    1. To open the user's deleted files, double-click the disk image in the Deleted Users folder in the Users folder on the startup disk. The disk image content appears in a new window.
    2. Note: If there is no disk image for the user's deleted account, no files were saved when the account was deleted. You will need to create a new account for the user.
    3. To restore the deleted user's home folder, open the Users folder on the startup disk and choose File > New Folder.
    4. Type a name for the folder and then press Return.
    5. To copy the contents of the disk image to the new user account, in the disk image file, choose Edit > Select All and then drag the contents to the user folder you created.
    6. To re-create the deleted user account, choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts. If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
    7. Click Add + and then type the user name. If you don't want to use the automatically generated short name, type a new short name. (After the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
    8. Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes. You may type a hint to help the user remember the password.
    9. Click Create Account.
    10. In the dialog that appears, click OK restore the user's account. The user's home folder will contain all their saved files.

  • Texted Before Restore/Texts Gone After Restore

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 6. Before I bought the new 6, I backed up the iPhone 4 onto my computer's iTunes. So I got my new phone and began using it and texting on it before I plugged it back into my computer to restore.
After the restore, all my old text messages were back, but the issue is that the new texts (the ones before I did the restore) are gone!
Is there a way to either gain back those texts from before the restore or merge the old texts with the new?

You restored a backup (which is pretty much a snapshot of the device at that point in time) of your previous device to a new device which had new texts on it. Restoring from the previous backup to the new device overwrites everything on the device that you restored the backup to. Unless you backed up the new device with the new texts, you've lost the texts that the new device had on it. There's no merging the data of the new backup (assuming you made one) with the old backup.
If you DID make a backup of the new device before restoring the old backup and those texts are contained within that backup, restore that backup to the device to get those texts, then use something like iExplorer (google it) to archive the texts to a .pdf document (iExplorer is able to do this). As far as I know and as I previously mentioned, there's no easy way (if there is at all) to merge the texts together.

  • Would partition be gone after restoring HDD into factory setting?

    Model: PSU4WH-00700P
I partition C: (450 GB) into C: (100 GB) and D: (350 GB), and would like to know when I restore HDD into factory setting, will D: partition be gone?
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes, the D partition will be gone.
When you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media, all the partitions are restored to factory new. That includes even the one with the recovery image.
In case you don't have it, I've attached a copy of the User's Manual.

  • Face time gone after restore, and say's "waiting for activation"

"Settings" then "Phone" then switch on "iFace" toggle. I had the same issue.

  • Backups gone after restore?

I recently installed a bigger hard drive in my MacBook Pro. After installing, I ran the restore of my latest back in Time Machine on my new drive. Worked like charm.
However, I have read other posts that say after doing this and running time machine on the new drive, it will forget all past backups and start from scratch. I don't want to lose my old backups. What is the best way to prevent that from happening?

Here is a thought. When you did the restore, what Mac OS version did you restore. Your states only say 10.5. But might your Mac have been restored to 10.5.4 or earlier with your restore?
I have found in my own testing, that since the 10.5.5 update, "Archive & Installs", "Erase & Installs", and "Restore System From Backup..." no longer trigger a new full backup. That is, they continue to use the same backup set as before. (Note though, you will likely see a very large incremental backup, but not necessarily a new Full Backup set.) See my comments here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1771493&tstart=0
If, however, you restored to a Mac OS version previous to 10.5.5, and then allowed Time Machine to perform a backup, then a new Full Backup would be preformed. Likely, you might be able to avoid this if you do the restore (prevent Time Machine from backing up), update to 10.5.5, then allow Time Machine to backup.
    Cheers!

  • Money from itunes account gone after restoring iPad?

I updated to ios 7 and then it came up that my password was incorrect, and my iPad disabled, ended up having to restore so I lost EVERYTHING. But the worst thing is, I had £15 on my itunes account from a giftcard, which I still have and now it's gone! Is there any way to get this back?

Sounds like you have three Apple IDs.  Definitely a bad idea.  It appears that your iTunes had previously used one ID and now it's using another.  I don't have iTunes on the computer that I'm using now so I can't be too specific with instructions.  However, look for account information and change your ID there.

  • Documents in Numbers all gone after restore my iPhone

I am using Numbers on my iPhone running iOS 5 for sometime, and Documents in the Cloud syncing is working fine all these while. But since I restored my iPhone, all documents in Numbers are all missing and the app won't sync the documents back to Numbers on my iPhone. When I try to logon to iCloud.com I can see the documents still in the Cloud. I even try to delete and reinstall numbers but the the documents just won't sync back to my iPhone. I have created a new document on Numbers, and the document just show a upload arrow sign without further action. Has anyone encounter the similar problem?

But since I restored my iPhone, all documents in Numbers are all missing
On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud
Make sure Documents & Data is switched on.

  • The option to play audio book has gone after IOS6 update audio books are on the iphone

Hi since updating to IOS6 I seem to have lost the ability to play Audiobook, if I go to the Ipod app the option isn't there and hen I connect to my car it says the folder is empty. Is there something I need to do to be able to play audio books. The audible app finds all the books so I know they are there, but doesn't work in the car where I like listening to books on long journeys.

anilsudhakaran Thanks!  This did the trick.  I guess this was added with the update since this view used to be visible for me without the added step.  Greatly appreciated

  • Backed up files partially disappear after restore (Windows Server 2008 R2 - Windows Server Backup)

    Dear all,
I am experiencing a problem with "Windows Server 2008 R2", using Windows Server Backup.
    Here's my setup:
    Server: RAID 5 Disk setup
    Backup:
By using Windows Server Backup (within Windows Server 2008 R2), C: and D: were fully backed up, with "System State" and "Baremetal Recovery" options selected. Backup went okay without any errors.
    Restore:
By using Windows Recovery Environment  (booted from Windows Server DVD), C: and D: were fully restored to the original partitions with "System Recovery" option found within Windows RE (without re-formatting partitions during restore). Restore
went OK without any errors. Rebooted, and system has been running fine.
    Problem:
After the restore, the system itself seems running OK; no BSOD, no crash, no visible errors.
However, our client insisted some files (around 6 to 7) which are related to the propriety software has "disappeared" right after System Recovery.
    Question:
Since Windows Server Backup is using "Volume Shadow Copy" technology which enables "live backup" of the running system, is it possible that some files will disappear (=restore error) after
    System Recovery?
I cannot really find any errors or warnings related to Windows Server Backup in the event log, through. No Windows-backup errors. No VSS errors, too.
Do anybody have experienced this kind of problem in the past?  Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply, Ms. Mandy.
To make things clear, let me explain to you briefly:
    1. The "missing data" was backed up with "full system backup".
    2. After a system restore from the above backup image, as you mentioned, partitions has been overwritten with the partions' backup data in the Backup Data Set taken by Windows Server Backup. No error with backup. No error after restore, and reboot - system
    has been running fine.
    3. Although there was a report that the affected files(about 7 java exectables) were missing after the above restore operation, other aspect of system was running fine at the time of the report.
    4. I have checked the original backup data set - and voila, there ARE files which seems to gone after restore.
    5. When I used Windows Server Backup "on" Windows Server 2008 R2 normal environment (= NOT Recovery environment from DVD) and selectd ONLY these affected files to restore, these files could be RESTORED successfully, without any errors. SO... data
    was property backed up.
    > The recovery will overwrite the partitions so files created after the backup point will be missing.
I understand, and this is not the case this time, because the affected files are already present in the backup data set (= I have mounted the backup data as VHD, and I could clearly see them present in the mounted VHD file)
Plus, these files are completely restoreable via "selective file restore" in Windows Server Backup.
    Things I want to know/confirm:
    > The recovery will overwrite the partitions
If I understand this correctly, in case that the files in question are already present in the backup data set, these files SHOULD be restored after full system restore, right? (If these files could not be restored, Windows Server Backup SHOULD show some errors.)
What do you think, Ms. Mandy? :)
