I bought a new computer and need to transfer my entire library

My computer crashed and I got a new one but my complete library is no longer showing on the new computer. It did at first but now it's gone. Home sharing is turned on. I need to permanently transfer.. How do I do that?

If your old computer won't start up you may be able to put the hard drive in an external drive bay to recover data from it. Or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

If you need to change the iCloud ID on your new phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

You cannot transfer from the iPhone to the computer.
You must move the contents of your old computer to the new one directly.
Use an external hard drive perhaps or restore your old computer backup to your new computer.
The iPhone is not the source of your data, that is the computer, the iPhone is only a slave device to iTunes.

  • I bought a new computer and want to transfer pics from a regular folder to the new computer.  What's the best way to do that?

I bought a new computer and want to transfer pics from a regular folder to the new computer.  These aren't in the cloud so they didn't transfer automatically.  What's the best way to do that?  Can I sync my old computer to my new computer through I tunes and transfer them that way?

iTunes will only transfer them to your iPad, and once transferred to your iPad they cannot be imported to your other computer (only camera roll photos can).  You will either have to use a usb flash drive or external drive to transfer them, or use an app like PhotoSync, which will transfer photos between your devices and computers over your wifi.

  • I'm subcribed to the $9.99/month for Lightroom and Photoshop. I bought a new computer and need to redownload them. Is that possible?

I've always been a part of the Mac familty until I destroyed my Macbook. Needing something quick, I bought a PC with windows 8.1. HATE IT. So, I bought another Mac and am returning the PC asap. While I had Windows, I subscribed to the Photoshop and Lightroom deal for $9.99/month. I'm just curious if I can reinstall those onto my new computer. I tried, and it was giving me issues. May be it's done a way I'm not trying? All help is appreciated.

yes, you can install/activate on up to two computers concurrently.
just sign into your account using your mac and start your downloads, https://creative.adobe.com/
if you do not intend to use cc on your win 8.1 computer, sign out of your win cc app.

  • I just bought a new computer and have tried syncing my iTunes library and iPod 160gb classic to the newly downloaded iTunes on my new computer. It is not working.

Please can somebody help? I followed the instructions on the support page for transferring music from computer to another by downloading the music files then putting them into the iTunes music file on the new computer. Unfortunately, iTunes on the new computer is not recognising the files. I have turned on home sharing to see if I could transfer them that way. It seemed to work then disappeared entirely. I tried connecting my iPod to see if it would recognise it that way. It does recognise my iPod but not the music in it and will not sync with my new computer.
Sorry if this is a boring subject that everyone has had a problem with but I am not able to get a proper answer on the internet. This should be easy not rocket science.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi ldean1,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The best way to get your music onto your new computer is to create a backup of your iTunes libray from your old computer to an external drive.  Follow the steps in this article:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
You may also need to remove and reinstall iTunes and it's components.   These articles will provide installation troubleshooting steps:

  • I moved to a new computer and need to transfer my settings

How do I transfer all of my settings with my pictures in a catalog to a new computer.  On the old computer photos were located in C:\data\Pictures.  On the new computer they are located in d:\data\pictures.  When I open my 2014 catalog it does not find the pictures and when I import them I don't have any of the settings saved, such as those flagged, starred, or edited. I have about 60,000 pictures. How can I get this all back? I am lost! Thank you!

  • I just bought a new computer and want to transfer my subscription to my new computer. Can I do this?

Can I transfer a paid subscription to a new computer without paying again?

    Hi,
ExportPDF subscription is not for a single computer, you can use it on any machine. There are two ways of Accessing the service , one by Web browser and second by using Adobe Reader. you would just require Adobe Reader or any web Browser.
