I had a itune library on one computer and it got damaged. I went out and bought myself another computer thinking that when I sign in my old library would come up. Wrong. Since I was unaware of this I did not back up my songs. Now I am trying to obtain my information from my old computer. I just have the songs on my Ipod touch which I can not seem to transfer to the new computer. I can not be the only one that this has happen to. I have all the information a person would require. How do I get my information from my old library back onto the new computer

I have recently bought a new lap top and I tunes is asking me to authorise it before it will allow me to play my previously purchased tunes. Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • New Pc: how can I transfer my Itune library into a new pc?

Hi,I will shortly be replacing my pc with a new one and I have a little dilemma:
1 = what do I need to do once I have a new PC up & running? If i just download Itunes will all my exsisting Libriray still be there?
2 = Also I have purchased some videos, How can I save them on external drive or cds?
anyone can advice would be highly appreciated.
    many thanks

*1 = what do I need to do once I have a new PC up & running? If i just download Itunes will all my exsisting Libriray still be there?*
You'll have to move your music and library from the old computer. The iTunes library is a database that links to the songs on your hard drive, neither the library files or the songs will get to your new computer just by installing iTunes.
*2 = Also I have purchased some videos, How can I save them on external drive or cds?*
Have a look at this article: iTunes for Windows: How to copy purchases between authorized computers
Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network it with the old one and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the old computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the new computer. If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Windows user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
If you have an iPod it can be used as an external drive and you can move the iTunes folder onto it: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
Don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play your iTunes purchases. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match , Apple does not keep a backup of your iTunes library.  Even then it is not the library as it exists on your computer, but some version of the media, and only media files, not playlists.  Even then not all media are definitely available since anything removed from the iTunes Store since you purchased it is not available for re-download.

In your case it sounds like you will have to obtain non iTunes purchases from their original source or a backup you may have made at some time in the past.

How can I transfer my iTunes library and playlists from one computer to another?

Copy the iTunes folder (Mac: Home\Music or PC: My Music) to the same location on the new computer. If an iTunes folder already exists on the new computer (it will on a Mac) replace it with one you copied.

how can i transfer my itunes library from my ipod to a new laptop

3 things you need to transfer music from iPod to itunes: iPod, computer, iTunes.
step 1 connect your ipod to your computer via the white USB cable.
step 2 open My Computer, or just Computer from the start menu and look for the ipod drive. It should be in the (F:) drive. You will see the ipod logo in the listing of disk drives.
step 3 Now you should have a new folder called ipod_control. Open that folder up and you should see the following: Calendar, Contacts, ipod_control, notes, photos, ect. If you are trying to save all of your music then the ipod_control folder is the only one you need to worry about.
step 3 Open the ipod_control folder then open the music folder. Copy each one of those folders (should look similar to these: F00, F01 ...) onto your computer.
step 3 Open itunes and insert the new folder you created on your computer's desktop into: library ---> Music

  • How can I transfer my iTunes Library back onto my mac?

    Hi there,
Up until recently I had a 2006 17" iMac and 500gb Time Capsule. I transfered my entire 140gb iTunes library onto the Time Capsule and made it the default location for all of my music, videos and apps due to the fairly small HD on the Mac.
I recently bought a new Mac with a 500gb HD and I would like to transfer the iTunes library and change the location back onto the computer again. This would enable me to format the Time Capsule, (which has been playing up) and use it for back-ups through Time Machine...something that it hasn't been able to do for some time.
I would be very grateful for some advice on this, as I don't want to risk losing any of my music files and I'm no expert!
Thanks in advance for any help!

It does seem to depend on the version of itunes you run..
Best asking in the itunes area.. as this is not really a TC issue.
But i would strongly recommend you do an archive to a usb drive of the present contents of the TC.. as they can die suddenly and without recourse.. and it is a sealed unit without spares or parts available.. Apple will offer no help.. although we do fix them that will cost you and it is probably time for a new one.

I can't find any information on how you can transfer your ITunes library from an old computer to a new one. I have installed ITunes on my new computer but it doesn't seem to synch with my IPhone. And I don't want to erase the library that is on my IPhone.

    Hi,
If you are using the iTunes command File>Transfer Purchases from iPod, only purchased music is transferred to iTunes from your iPod.
    Hope this helps!
