I bought a song on itunes on my mac yesterday and it won't play on my iPhone

I purchased a track on iTunes via my mac yesterday and it will not play on my iPhone 6. In fact, it doesn't even show up in my music library on the phone when I sync it with my iTunes, yet everything else is fine. Any help would be great..

It sounds like you may want to setup Automatic Downloads for your purchases to download on your iOS device as well. The following Knowledge Base article offers the steps on how to turn that feature on:
Enable Automatic Downloads

Turn on Automatic Downloads on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Tap Settings > iTunes & App Store.
Sign in with your Apple ID if necessary.
Tap the content that you want to automatically download. If iBooks isn't listed, you need to download iBooksfrom the App Store.
You can turn Automatic Downloads on or off over your cellular network on an iPhone or iPad Wi-Fi + 3G. Go to Settings > Store and turn Cellular Data on or off. Cellular Data downloads are limited to a file size of 50 MB or smaller.
Additionally you can try downloading the content to your device using these steps as well:

Music
Tap Settings > Music and make sure Show All Music is on.
Tap the Music app.
Find the item that you want to download.
Tap the Download icon.

Itunes is all messed up and music won't play

A few days ago I was able to play all 997 of my songs on itunes. Today, I go to play my songs and there is an sign in front of all but about 3 songs and none of the others will play. When I click on the explanation sign I get the following "this song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" When I try to locate, nothing happens. I have invested a lot of time getting my music synced to itunes and really just want to get them back so I can listen to them as my background music when I work on the computer. Can anyone help me with this??? Very frustrating and dont' even want to think about having to restore all those songs. ANY help would be appreciated - please understand I am a computer novice and am not technically inclined at all. Please help me get my music back!!

You get exclamation marks or dead tracks because iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.
So did you move or change anything? iTunes does not do folder watching and it cannot cope with files being moved or renamed.
You can find where iTunes thinks a track is by right clicking on it and selecting Get Info>>Summary Tab.
Does this reveal anything about what happened. If you can find the file with Windows Explorer you can see where the file really is.
If you didn't change anything, do you have any software on your PC that might be renaming files, Window Media player can be set to do it.
