I purchased an iPhone 3GS for my girlfriend in Colombia. It was advertized as new, factory unlocked. When i received the phone it was obviously used and still locked to ATT. I requested an unlock from ATT. ATT granted my request. After updating through iTunes the phone will not connect to the activation server. have read all the information I can find. I have had no success. Is there a solution to this problem¿

Your'e right, Sears acts as a middleman for their associate resellers just as Amazon does. I have already contacted Sears via email., and left feedback on the site, which they did not publish. The wording for the advertisement was changed so it is not as misleading, and is more or less legal. The seller also offered to replace the phone or to let me return it but I had already sent it to Colombia. My girlfriend is using it, but it is about like having an ordinary cellular with SMS and mms messaging and a camera. Basically, at this point we are stuck with a very expensive used cell phone.

Then there's nothing you can do. Only the previous owner can help you. They must either provide the ID and password, or erase the phone and remove it from their account as explained in the article you were reading. There's no way around this.

i bought the phone from someone who lives in my village, there is no error code, when apple did a diagnostic on the phone they said it was running perfect. when you say carrier locked what exactly do you mean as i put a brand new orange sim in the phone and everything seems fine but the sim dosnt seem to activate so i tried it in my unlocked 4s and i got missed calls and txt's that id sent to it while it was in the 4, when i try ring it in the 4 it says sorry calls are currently not being connected to this number then goes to orange answerphone

I bought a used iphone 4 on a swap meet, when i try to activate it says that i need to put the icloud email and password, the thing is i cant find the guy that sold me the iphone, is it posibble to know the email account (not the password) linked to this iphone ( imei: 012748001389030), so i can send an email to the previos owner requesting him to disable that option. because when i try to activate i just get c********@gmail.com, and i dont know the email.

Unfortunatly the only way that you can get it off is to get the old user to input the password. You may need to contact that old user and see if he can put the old password in. hope this helps.

Removing data is all or none, and "forgetting" to do so before selling your phone is no "small thing" - it's like selling your purse with your wallet and credit cards still inside.

Every day there are posts from people with obviosly found or stolen iPhones who mysteriouly "forget" their passcode (or forget to obtian it from the prior owner) and who somehow don't have access to the computer the phone was synced with, looking for help to gain access to the phone. Check the eBay listing. Did it state the device was Activation Locked? If not, then make a claim as Meg stated and get a refund. You will not be able to activate the phone and no one can help you contact the owner, unless that is the person that sold the device. If they cannot remove the phone from their account because it is not theirs, then refund is your route. Even Apple cannot assist with locating the previous owner.

Apple doesn't have anything to do with this other than enforcing the DRM protection. The developers of this content expect to be paid if someone wants to use their content. When you purchase content in the app store, you purchase a license to use the content. This license does not permit you or anyone else to resell or give this content away. The individual you purchased the phone from simply does not have the right to sell or give away any purchased content on the phone. You were deceived.

You can't. Return the phone for a refund, if you can, because without the previous owner's Apple ID/Password, you will not be able to re-activate the phone. It will be useless to you.
Apple can't/won't help you with this.

Well, you sink everything on your 3GS onto your laptop/computer. Then you reset your iPhone 4. When you are restarting it, add all those apps music (ect) On to it. It seems difucult but for more info call Apple. I did that and he lead me step by step on how to do it. Well hope this helped~~

Well first you need to sync your iPhone 4 with your Mac/PC so that it will transfer all your music, apps, podcasts, etc. Then sync your iPod Touch and the media you selected during the sync should be there on your iPhone. If you have difficulty in transferring media from iPhone to your computer, try softwares like TransCopy. They will help in transferring data from your iphone to your computer. Dont forget to check that all the transferred data is in the iTunes media folder so that the iTunes can locate the files. Link to Transcopy software :

Have your friend the provided the phone contact them. Based on your statements I am concluding he was or still is an AT&T customer, that is one of the requirements of getting the device unlocked.

Unfortunately, you cannot do very much with your phone unless you get assistance from the previous owner, they should either provide you with the password to unlock it or remove their account from the phone entirely remotely through iCloud.com > Find My Phone.
