I bought a used ipod touch from someone on craigslist and it has a password on it which I do not have.  How do I reset the ipod

Have a used ipod touch which apparently have a passcode on it.  I do not have the passcode and the seller will not respond to me.  How can I access the ipod to open it and reset everything.

Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and restore via iTunes.

If not successful, try DFU mode.
