my acc is reg in ireland, i am currently in new zealand and bought a gift card, i cant work out how to use it, help!

You can't.
They are country specific.
You could get a New Zealand address, then get a credit card that is billed to that address, then set up an account in New Zealand, and as long as you are inside the Borders of New Zealand, then you could redeem the card.

What exactly do you see when trying to buy a game, what messages do you get on-screen ?
If it's an account that you've just created then unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store. You should be able to remove the card after entering its details.

Sorry, but there's no way to force the iTunes Store to use your credit card. If there's a credit balance available, purchases will be deducted from that first.

TS1292 What if I bought an ITunes gift card in the states when my account is in Canada (unknowing that it's only for the US ITunes) can I redeem it in any way?

So on a trip to the states, I bought an ITunes gift card (well 45 dollars worth), took it home ( a 16 hour drive) just to see that it's 'Valid only in the US ITunes store'.
