I bought CS5 on ebay

I bought the entire CS5 program on ebay about 1 week ago. I loaded it onto my brand new laptop with Windows 7. Before I loaded the software I had to add a some necassary information onto my already existent host file on my computer. I was told to do this by information contained on an extra cd I received with my purchase. I did this. My computer for some reason would not let me save this iformation so I created a new host file and saved it separately in the same location as the original. I subsequently loaded all software with the programs on them. Now when I try to use Illustrator or Photoshop or any of the the programs it asks me for a key. I have the key but when I put it in, it says it is incorrect. Then it says I can continue with my 30 day trial if I would like. This is NOT a trial. I bought the full program. Has anyone had this issue before? Could it be a problem with the host file being incorrectly installed? I don't know. Please help.

I really am only trying to clarify one point. The Windows host files plays no part with "in-coming" connections nor does it open any type of hole in your network. The worst thing that could happen is for an entry to be added that would re-direct your URLs to another IP address. A scary enough event but easily identified within the HOST file. As far as it being compromised by simply commenting out every entry you have repaired the file itself.
I guess my point was for the unlucky buyer was to inspect the new host file entries (perhaps even post them on this Forum) and save himself the panic of shutting down bank access, reformatting hard drives and the like.
The reason I have stumbled upon this was I had been asked by a client to look into reasons why HOST file entries are changed. During my research I found that the number #1 reason this is done with Adobe is to block the URL for the activation. The host file is changed so that whatever.adobe.com is redirected to the loopback address of 127.0.0.1 which prevents absolutely no risk to the system at all, other than having trouble accessing sites etc in the xxxx.adobe.com domain. I also have no idea whether these changes even work in getting around the activation procedure.
Again to I reiterate I have no clue what was installed or changed in the "victims" system and it may very well be crawling with Viruses and Trojans, I simply wanted to weigh in on the HOSTS file situation.

Oh my, I hope so too but its pretty common on these types of sites - even eBay sellers do it. Its all about the way they word it. Some sellers are very crafty in the way they word their ads misleading the buyer into thinking they're getting a legitimate and licensed product when it's actually not. Be careful in any future products you buy on these kinds of sites.
My advice is to quickly write an email to the seller and demand to know what you just bought - Be VERY specific and thorough with your questions - for example on ebay I bought a computer that had CS5 installed on it (but it didn't come with the install disks) This particular seller installed CS5 or 6 as well as the Microsoft Suites on all of his used pc's. So before I bid, I sent an email to him asking if it included the product codes for the CS5 because I intended to register it for Adobe support. He advised me that he bought bulk licenses for all his software, he told me exactly where the product codes were on a document and they were in fact legit.
Also check the return policy of the Site (not the seller) sometimes they offer a little protection to their customers. Be sure to contact their support department and their Fraud department if it turns out you were scammed. And definitely give negative feedback to the seller.
One more thing, you should also check with the Adobe licensing support department. In fact, do this FIRST - so that you're sure the code is no good. Sometimes the product codes have expiration dates (though I've never heard of it happening to entire suite) If this is the case they will issue you a new code free of charge.

There are no upgrades for Student and Teacher Editions. You can continue to use the version you are using, or you can buy CS6 with no special upgrade price, or subscribe to Creative Cloud. However, I believe if you still qualify, you're offered a discount on Creative Cloud.

I purchased PHOTOSHOP CS5 from eBay. I can't install.

I purchased PHOTOSHOP CS5 from eBay. The seller contacted Adobe and had them deactivate all previous installations of the product. He told me to go ahead and install and put in the coupon code and I should get the SN. I did and it tells me that my Coupon Code is not good. It is a version for teachers. I am a teacher and do have an Adobe account. I am finding it impossible to contact Adobe Customer Support - an actual person. What can I do?

Usually the seller deactivates from the computer, but I don't understand this "coupon code". When I purchased Adobe CS5 from Adobe, all I needed and got was the 24 digit serial number. If you were not given a serial number, something is not good.

Been using your products for over 10 years. Love the products and will continue to use them. But this is absurd and makes me extremely pissed. I purchased the package thinking I was going to get a free upgrade and was never informed of upgrade deadline at time of purchase. Furthermore I called Adobe once before (right around the release of cs6) and was told the update would take sometime. I don't know what Adobe thinks they will gain by pissing off a loyal customer. I have always thought it was best to obtain products legally by paying for them. Whatever. For now on when talking about how great Adobe products are there will always be a footnote of frustration attached to it.

What particular update are you looking for? For Creative Suite 5 the only updates we are likely to make at this point will be for important security updates.

First you'd have to establish service with Verizon. Once a paying customer in good standing, you can then request the GSM portion be unlocked. Obviously, you can't do any of that stuff while you're out of the US. They will not unlock the CDMA side.

Nothing you can do, if you the seller won't respond to you. Sell it back on Ebay. Lesson learned, only buy iphone from an authorized apple dealer.
