I bought iWork via download. Message warning missing files

ok so I own a MacBook Air. I got a trial version of iWork 08 on a DVD. Once the trial expired, I decided to buy it via download. It works fine on my iMac however, getting it on MacBook Air was hard. The only way I could get the files was by sharing a screen and basically dragging the iWork folder onto my MacBook Air's hard drive. The applications seem to be working, however, whenever I open the apps it gives me the warning files missing. Ignore and continue or something. I think this is why I am having trouble migrating docs from iWork to Office for Mac 08. Any suggestions?

knarfy,
We keep seeing this problem in this discussion group when someone tries to install iWork on a computer on which it's already installed. Not this matters now, but here's what you should have done: since the trial version is identical to the purchased version (except for the time limit), you should have just used the new serial number and plugged it into the the trial version. That's all you needed to do in order to get a legit, fully functioning copy.
What I would do now is to do a Spotlight search in the words iWork, Pages, Numbers and Keynote, then delete everything I find (making sure to move my personal files out of those folders first). Then I would do a fresh install. Since you're using a MacBook Air, I would download the trial version, then plug in to that the new serial number from the purchased version.
Hope this helps.

• What does the message "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired" when repairing disk permissions?

What does the message "Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired" when repairing disk permissions?

It's just a status message, albeit a misleading one, and can be ignored.

• Error message: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManage

Hi all, hope someone can help. I updated to snow leopard and also installed iWork. My macbook was running a bit slower than usual for download so I ran the repair permissions in first aid and it came up with this:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Has something become corrupted or is this normal?

Normal - pretty much everyone gets those. OK to ignore.

• Hi There! I have a question on Kernel Task-Threat. How can I clean my computer? This is the message --Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

Hi There! I have a question on Kernel Task-Threat. How can I clean my computer? This is the message that persists when cleaning disc--Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.

That's a routine message and it means nothing. Don't waste your time repairing permissions unless you know you have a problem that can be solved that way, which you probably never will.

• Error message "Warning: SUID file... will not be repaired"

I just repaired permissions because something unexpected happened. This was one of the messages in the window:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool" has been modified and will not be repaired."
Can someone tell me if this is something to be alarmed about? And need it be fixed?
(Last night I installed the briefly available AirportExtreme Upgrade that was pulled. On necessary restart I saw a dialogue about changing some boot files)

..."Apple has said that these specific messages, listed in the KB article I reference, are not a cause for concern."...
Yes, understood. "Specific messages" being the key. Mentioning "specific", I think, shows that you understand the issue.
However, your response to the OP was:
..."It's a normal status message and nothing to worry about."...
It was only the extension of the "specific" to the general that I prompted me to clarify by responding in the first place. Of course, the message isn't "normal". Being able to safely ignore it is a special case, which is why it is listed specifically in the article. Note the difference to the "ACL" messages (i.e. "Any message that starts with: 'ACL found but not expected on...'". It does not say "Any message that starts with: "Warning: SUID file...". The document only applies to the specific listed files (plus a few more I believe would be included if the article had been updated in a more timely manner).
In the future when responding to similar questions, please keep the distinction in mind because it is important. While there are things Apple should do to improve the situation, the reason I am addressing it here instead of through "feedback" is because of the way some participants of this site are conveying the message. As long as people aren't being given the impression that a warning that a SUID file has been modified is never a cause for concern, I won't object.

• Missing Files Message - No Missing Files

I get a message when opening projects that says files are missing. It lists the files like "Macintosh HD:" - like it's a whole drive or something. Just trashed prefs and repaired disc permissions.

If those are the only files, and you are not missing them you can (in that same warning-window) choose to 'FORGET' these files.
If you are uncertain about this then FIRST close FCP. Make a copy of the project file. pen that and try the FORGET button and see if something gets missing...
(Probably not). If that works, then replicate the actions with your original project.

• Odd message about missing file when opening Logic

Hi there
I've just done a fresh de novo install of Logic Studio 8 on my imac. When I open Logic Pro and select a new guitar tones project, before it opens I get a message in a new browser
"please locate missing 2.8sSpring_reverb.sdir" and at the bottom of the browser "audio file selected".
I don't know where this file is, if I click cancel I get a similar one for a plate reverb and then it opens.
Is there a way to rectify this? OSX 10.4.11 and a full install of all of Logic Studio plus main updates.

• Document Warning Missing File

I have iWork '09. When I open a saved pages doc many photos that were copied and pasted are now missing. Also in Numbers I tried to use a template that came with numbers and parts of that template where missing too. How do I fix this and can I get my photos back?

It sounds as something in the iWork applications is missing. If you create a new user account and try Pages and Numbers in that account and it still is missing images in templates it is a application problem. If the applications works fine in the new account it is probably a corrupt preference file.
The preference file is named com.apple.iwork.pages.plist or ...numbers.plist . You find them in Users/ your name / Library/Preferences folder. Drag them to the Trash/Bin start Pages and see if it works now
If the applications still have problem in the new account uninstall iWork. You cannot completely delete iWork by moving the iWork '09 folder to the Trash. Instead, use Yvan Koenig's script:
              •          Go to http://www.box.com/s/00qnssoyeq2xvc22ra4k
              •          Choose public_YK > for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items
              •          Click on uninstall iWork '09.zip, decompress it, open it in AppleScript Editor and click the Run button
Restart the computer and install iWork again and do the updates to at least version 9.0.

• Since I installed Firefox 25 I get 3 error messages regarding missing files: wlanapi.dll, GlobalUtils.dll, and UA_Modules.dll. How do I fix this?

I tried resetting Firefox but nothing changed. When I try to use an interactive website, everything freezes unless I continually move the mouse.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Linux .tar.gz download is missing files

Hello,
The .tar.gz installation archive download is either missing files or the installation instructions need to be corrected. When untarred, only the file "libflashplayer.so" is unpacked. Per the installation instructions, "a directory called install_flash_player_10_linux will be created" and it should contain a file "flashplayer-installer":
~/downloads$ tar -tf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
libflashplayer.so
~/downloads$
I've downloaded it 3 times, so I doubt this is an instance of random corruption. Also, if libflashplayer.so is placed in the Firefox plugins directory, it causes Firefox to segfault upon loading any Flash-using web page. Investigating with strace leads me to believe this is due to missing libraries (which, I'm guessing, should be installed by the nonexistent flashplayer-installer script).
Am I missing something obvious here?

I was able to get Flash working by installing libCURL and manually installing libflashplayer.so. I would like to point out that the libCURL dependency is not mentioned in the installation instructions anywhere. Maybe the non-existant installer program is supposed to notify you if you are missing dependencies?
Either way, something is broken.
