  • I got an iphone 4. I had to update my macbook pro to Lepard just to sync. I updated to lepard. Now when I try to sync itunes does not recognize my new iphone 4 as mine and wants to erase everything I have bought using the phone.

I upgraded from Iphone 3g to iphone 4. I had to update my macbook pro to Lepard just to sync. the **** thing with the new iphone 4. I bought and updated to lepard. Now when I try to sync itunes does not recognize my new iphone 4 as mine and wants to erase everything I have bought using the phone before it will sync! It says everything on the phone now will be cleared in order to sync it with my existing info on the computer from my previous iphone. How can I just get everything from my current iphone 4 into itunes, basically add it to the info from my previous iphone 3g that is currently in my itunes?  I dont want to lose what I have on my phone currently....I paid money for half the apps for crying out loud.
I was so frustrated by this when I first bought the phone that I just pushed it out of my mind and NEVER synced it. Please help...

Nope - you cannot restore a backup from a newer iOS version on to a device running an older iOS version.  The reverse works, but in your case to use your backup, you must update to iOS 7.0.3 - no other option if you want to use that backup.

  • My iphone / mac no longer recognize they are the same Itunes library.  When I try to sync my phone now, it wants to erase everything and replace it with the computers itunes library.  I have purchased items on the phone I don't want to erase

My iphone / mac no longer recognize they are the same Itunes library.  When I try to sync my phone now, it wants to erase everything and replace it with the computers itunes library.  I have purchased items on the phone I don't want to erase them from the phone.  The phone backs up fine, but won't sync.

File>Devices>Transfer Purchases from "iPhone" and then sync.

  • Had 3G, moved to 3GS.  Backed up 3G and restored 3GS from backup with no problem.  When I want to add songs, I get itunes message that the new iphone is synced to another computer and now wants to erase everything.  How can I add music?

Had 3G, moved to 3GS.  Backed up 3G and restored 3GS from backup with no problem on a Dell computer.  But now when I want to add songs, I get itunes message of death that the new iphone is synced to another computer and now wants to erase everything.  How can I add music without erasing everything on my new iphone?

Yes, I was aware of this but the phrase "Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library." is what worries me.  Will this eliminate my Notes, Calendar Events, etc or will it apply mostly just to the music?

  • I have purchased a secondhand ipad and I want to reset it to factory settings

I have purchased a secondhand ipad from eBay and to reset it to factory settings it is asking for itunes log in details. I have messaged the person that i bought it from in hope that he can help. but I was wondering if there's another way to reset it without this password.

    Is Activation Lock your Issue..?
    Activation Lock in iOS 7  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5818
    If so...
The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required.
If you cannot get this information from the seller
Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

  • Lion OSX want to reset Terminal to Factory Settings ...

Lion OSX want to reset Terminal to Factory Settings but I can't find the terminal.plist file in Library.
    Can anybody help?
    Thank you

The settings are in the file
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist
    Can't find your Library folder?
How to show your User Library folder
Lion insists upon hiding your Library folder. To make it visible and prevent Lion from hiding it all the time, first go to the Finder, select the "Go" menu while holding the Option key, and select Library.
Your user Library folder will open.
Then, drag the window's icon to the Sidebar:
Your Library folder will then remain in the Sidebar, available to select whenever you like.

  • HT201317 My husband bought an Ipad 3.  He gave me his Ipad 2.  How do we get home movies from the 2 to the 3?  I want to restore the 2 to the factory settings, but not lose these movies.

My husband bought an Ipad 3.  He gave me his Ipad 2.  How do we get the home movies from the 2 to the 3?  I would like to restore the 2 to factory settings.  As I understand, from reading "help", videos are NOT in the Photo Stream.

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • Confused about synching multiple phones to the same computer with different content: itunes wants to erase everything??

I have had an i5 for some time, but my partner just bought one to replace her 3GS. We both synch to my itunes, and have been doing so for as long as I can recall. When we got her i5, we backed up her 3GS and reloaded the content into her i5. So far so good. Now, this couple of weeks later, I decided I wanted to put some of the movies, music, etc. that I have on my itunes library on her phone. I had previous installed some of the apps that I have there without trouble. However, when I tell my itunes to put movies (etc) onto her phone, it warns me (upon apply) that this phone has been sync'ed to another itunes, and that I can do what I am asking, but it will erase everything on the phone now! I cancelled this op at this point.
As far as I know neither of us has sync'ed her phone to any other itunes, although she has probably downloaded stuff directly into the phone using the onboard itunes. Is that what it's warning me about? Is there any way to either pull the content off the phone, or merge the content with what she had locally downloaded? If not, I'm willing to sacrifice the few things that she had locally loaded as long as it's not going to, for example, erase all her photos, and contacts, and everything else as well at the same time!
This is all rather confusing to me. It's actually rather confusing that one can synch multiple devices with different settings at all, and I'm extremely surprised that it works at all. Can someone clarify what's going on here? What I should/shouldn't do? What I can/can't do?
    Thanks in advance!

First make sure you have authorised the iTunes computer you are using for all of the associated apple ID's via the Store Menu>Authorise this computer and enter the apple ID and password used on the phone (repeat for as many apple ID's are in use on the phone).
Then right-click (or Control Click) on the name of the phone and select Transfer Purchases (this can also be found under File>Device>Transfer purchases). This will back up all of the purchases on the device to your computer, then when you sync with the phone it will put them back on even though it has just removed them.
Its a round about way of doing it but she shouldn't loose anything as long as the computer is authorised for all of the apple ID's used on the phone

  • My computer crashed and will no longer turn on, now when I go to sync my iPhone it wants to erase everything.  I have 2,000  songs and don't want to loose them...please help!

My computer crashed and was not fixable.  I have since bought a MacBookPro but I can not sync my iPhone to it as it wants to erase all of my music and videos.  Please help!!

Roaminggnome's answer is neither strictly accurate nor is it especially helpful. There exist a number of third party applications that are neither supported nor endorsed by Apple, but that once installed on your new MacBook will allow you to download your files from your iPhone. Just Google "back-up music from iPhone" and you should get a range of products to choose from.
And after you've bought and downloaded one of them and restored your iTunes content, go an buy an external drive to back-up your iTunes library

  • How to wipe out my iMac and reset it to factory settings?

My iMac got dozens Trojan viruses and I don't even know how. So, simply want to wipe EVERYTHING out of it and just restart the whole thing from scratch how do I do that?
    Please, and thank you!

Restart your system holding CMD + R keys. Erase and Restore your system. Don't know about the "Virus" thing you think you have. Maybe, but unlikely.

  • I want to erase everything on the hard drive and have snow leopard which is the operating system now left

i just brought a laptop on ebay with snow leopard on it and alot of programs i dont want. i want to erase everthing and end up with the snow leopard amd i can buy ilife which i want.

    Erase and Install Snow Leopard
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. After formatting is complete quit DU and complete the Snow Leopard installation.

  • Ok...i just baught a new ipod touch and synched it to my old computer to get my music off it...but when i synched it to my new comp it wants to erase everything thats not baught from i tunes....how do i keep the music in order to sync to my new comp?

i just baught a new ipod touch and synched it to my old computer to get the music off it but when i synched it to my new computer it wants to delete all the music on it that wasnt baught through itunes....how do i keep my cd's and stuff that are on the ipod now and put it onto my new computer?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • ITunes wants to erase everything on my iPhone

Been scouring the net for solutions but couldn't find anything.
Recently got a new computer, and want to sync my iPhone with the new iTunes, and iTunes says that I'll need to erase everything on my iPhone.
How do I make iTunes "follow" my iPhone, instead of having my iPhone "follow" iTunes, if you know what I mean?
I absolutely need everything on the iPhone, don't need anything in iTunes, so it makes no sense to wipe out my iPhone instead of wipe out iTunes.
To be clear, I've read threads about the "Manually manage my songs" option, but that's not what I'm asking about.
Hope someone could help me out, thanks!

If the content is only on your phone(bad idea! as the iTunes content sync is ONE WAY: COMPUTER TO PHONE), do the following:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in iTunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC.
    3. Store>Authorize this Computer.
    4. File>Transfer Purchases(all of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred to your new computer's iTunes library).
Before you do anything else, put one contact and one calendar entry in whatever supported applications you use for contact & calendar syncing on your computer. This will ensure you get a merge or replace prompt when you do sync. Select merge.
For music you ripped on your own & photos synced to your phone, you will have to use third party software to extract these from your phone BEFORE you sync or do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so. Here's one choice to do so:
