Unfortunately you have to buy this apps on your iPad. These are different apps from their similar on Mac.
Although, if you buy them on your iPad, you'll can download for free on your iPhone/ipod Touch.
iPad/iPhone bought after september/2013, has received iWork for free. If you have yours earlier than this, so you need to pay these apps.

I downloaded the iPad2 app for Firefox, have gone into my MacBook, opened it up, set the preference, and then it wanted the numbers for the device. Where do I find the numbers?
Then I found no iPad2 listed. The information on the App Store stated that it definitely was available for iPad2, but no luck syncing it.
I do have the bluetooth up and running, but will that serve to sync? Should I go ahead and run a normal sync.

If I have apps like iwork- pages, numbers downloaded to my ipad do I have to buy the apps again to get them on my iMac? My iMac has the 08 version, my iPad the 09. I am trying to reconcile.

You will have to purchase them for the Mac - the two operating systems are totally different and what works on an iDevice will not work on a Mac.

To buy an app, I updated my forgotten security questions. Successfully changed, I went to purchase the app again, except the questions would not appear for me to answer.

talked to a person on the phone already, and went into the apple store today. also brought my macbook pro with me, to have them help. it went successfully changing them. The problem is they will not appear for me to answer when proving my identity on the app store!!!!

I have the same issue with pages/keynote and numbers (iWorks). Came preinstalled when I bought the macbook air back in 2010 (Out of warranty). It crashed a couple of months ago so I took it to Apple but when I got it back the iWorks was no longer there. I cannot go back to Apple for a few months as there is no Apple store where I am currently.

HT4009 I purchased the postcode search for Navigon, but now it just keeps telling me: "You can't purchase This item With This Account, You must purchase the app that this item is for before you can purchase the item". I PURCHASED NAVIGON 2 YEARS AGO!

As said, I already purchased Navigon when it first came out. Since Garmin took over this app is worthless. Not only have I lost all my settings, but none of my in-App purchases work and I can't even enable them because my iPhone tells me I need to purchase the App.

The Mac & iOS Numbers are two separate applications for two different operating systems. You need to buy both, but only once for each OS.
