I bought Photoshop Elements in March 2014. Yesterday I had to reinstall Mavericks (Apple).
Now Elements doesn't open anymore. Do I need to download the trial version again or how
do I get it back to work?

We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
Plug-in installation instructions:
1. Close Photoshop Elements
2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
• For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
• For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.

I'm not sure how it works though since I bought it through the Itunes app store, not adobe directly. Am I out of luck?

Theoretically you can use the itunes version to qualify for adobe's upgrade discount, but that's it. All download versions are single platform. And in many countries the street price of the full version of PSE is less than adobe's upgrade price, so it's usually not worth pursuing that. However, if you wish to, I'm told you use your apple ID as your serial number when asked. I don't know anyone who's done this, so I don't know how well it really works.

Delete the song from library including file. Then go to the iTunes Store and select "Purchased" from the Quick Links side bar on the right. Select Music tab to re-download again for free.

uninstall pse 10 (properly using the adobe uninstaller).
clean - Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
then try reinstalling using the adobe installation file(s).
if you see an activation count error while trying to reinstall contact adobe support, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
and ask for an activation count reset.

Make sure you are using the correct serial number starting 1160 (24 digits comprising all numbers and no letters)
If in doubt you can check from your PC version. Launch LR and from the menu click:
Help >> System Info

I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 13, comes with disks, can I download it instead?

My new laptop doesn't have a CD rom drive. I guess I didn't realize this would be a package with disks in it when I ordered online.

Can anyone help me? My Macintosh hard drive ( is that the correct name for "festplatte" in German?) broke down after just one and a half years. I had a new one put in and snow leopard was installed. Now I'm having problems with Adobe Photoshop Elements. I installed it and I can open it but I always get error messages when I try to use it. It's one of the programmes I need most for my job, so I'm quite annoyed not being able to use it. Has anyone got an idea of what to do? I would be very very grateful for help.

Okay, a couple of things to try. Uninstall PSE (trash its folder from Applications). Remove everything you can find in your username>library>preferences and in hard drive>Library>application support>Adobe (note that this is the library at the top level of your hard drive, not system>library).
Create a new admin user and install from there. Repair permissions after the install before using the program.
However, I have to say that some people have been having a lot of trouble getting PSE 4 to install/run reliably in SL. It's just too old.
Also, you did install Rosetta, didn't you?
