I Just bought a IPAD2 and I can connect to my home wifi but I can't connect to any free hotspots. My Ipad shows the connections but I can't get any web pages. what do I do?
Many free wi-fi hotspots require that you register first - agreeing to their terms and conditions, etc. This is usually provided via a web page with Safari provided immediately after connecting. If the register page is provided via Flash, you won't see it and you won't be able to register.

You must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.(10.9/Mavericks is the only download avaiable now without specially calling Apple).

Hi. I have the Apple connector kit...and actually played Garageband via my M-Audio Oxygen 25-keyboard thru my iPad2--without a powered hub.
But that was two month ago.
Now...I can't get it to play--with volume. I can hear the notes...but faintly. And I have pushed ALL possible volume controls up (Keyboard & iPad).
I know the keyboard is triggering, because I tested it on a MacBook: got full volume, just like before.
But just can't get full volume from the iPad2. I got a 4-port USB hub...and tried interfacing it between the keyboard and the connector kit/iPad2. But still no volume. It's almost like a switch is off in the iPad???

i didn't really dare to delete the blue home folders before, just in case everything went wrong, but now i think i have so little space that i can't afford to lose 2.25gb!
one thing that slightly worries me is the fact that the 'proper' library folder (in the home icon) is 2.09gb, whereas the 'wrong' one (from the blue folder forenamesurname) is 2.24gb - this is the one i would be deleting. just seems odd to delete a larger file than the one i presume i'm using.
"Move everything you want to keep out of the blue folders, and then place both of the folders on your desktop. If everything works properly after a few days, delete both folders. If you are asked for your administrator password at any point or if either folder is copied instead of moved when dragged, don't delete that folder."
by 'everything you want to keep', does this include the library folder? 'cause there doesn't seem to be much else, and i'm not sure if deleting the library folder would ruin all my preferences.
i've put both of the folders on the desktop, it didn't ask for the admin password or try to copy them, so i guess that's good news. what kind of things should i be looking out for to act differently?
are the folders not in use now that they are on the desktop?
also if i put them in the trash will they have no effect? i.e. the same as permanently deleting them, so i could put them in the trash as a test.

can't get to settings to turn on wifi because "sign in to icloud" pops up and asks for pw which does not work because i can't get to wifi ?
The problem is I cannot turn on wireless setting. The "sign in to icloud -- enter appleid password" popup will not go away. when i enter the pw and click ok, the same balloon pops up again. If I click "cancel" it pops again. Since I am not on the internet (because I cannot turn the ipad wireless on) the sign in to icloud obviously will not work. Vicious circle.

Apparently it's related to the Firefox plug in.
This isn't exactly a solution but more of a way to avoid opening PDFs with Firefox's plug in.
1. Highlight "Tools" from the Menu Bar in the top left of the screen (or click "Options" if using the Firefox Compact Menu)
2. Select to "Options
3. Select "Applications"
4. Look for "Adobe Acrobat Document" under Content Type and to the right under Action select "Use Adobe Reader (default)" instead of the using Adobe Acrobat in Firefox
5. Open a test PDF. It should open in it's own window now.
Again, not a complete solution but something that'll at least let you scroll with PDFs open.

Just tried installing an update to OSX Snow Leopard. Prior to trying to update OS, I was running V 10.6.3. During installation, it locked up. Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound. What do I do now? Help!
Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.

This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.

Are using Apple's camera connection kit with the SD reader that came with the kit, or are you using a third-party kit ? Also what type of card are you using : SD, SDHC, SDXC ?
The message doesn't relate to the battery level of the iPad. Only a relatively small amount of power is supplied to the iPad's dock (it used to be higher), so a lot of other card readers can't be used with the kit because they require more power in order to operate. -

Many thanks a VERYNovice ipadderThe iPad 1 can be updated to iOS 5.1.1. You can see what level you are running in Settings > General > About > Version.
If you are not at iOS 5.1.1 and if you are have iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).

If you are on level 5 but not at 5.1.1 you can update to 5.1.1 using Settings > General > Software Update.
There are still many Apps which will run on iOS 5. Also, some developers have older levels still available for the iPad 1. -
Adobe elements photo shop full install does not work. How do I get it to work?
It worked before and now it doesn't. For some reason the computer is treating the full install as if it were a demo. I already registered the product when I first installed...... Somehow the Adobe Manager is not recognizing the full install. Is that possible? There are 2 selections during installation ....trial or product key....
I selected product key since I have the product key. The installation accepts the product key acts like it is installing but then it doesn't run...then I tried the demo installation without the key since I can't enter it in the box in demo mode....that doesn't run either.....Is the Adobe Manager the problem? How do I fix this?

If you do not need to enter a username or password when starting your computer, you can probably just leave the password field blank when acknowledging this prompt. -
I signed up and paid for the service that Adobe Reader advertizes that says it can convert PDF files to Word (.docx) files. I tried it immediately after purchasing it and it did not work. What it did was it converted it to a .docx file but the content was in the form of a picture and therefore uneditable. This does me no good. Basically, it took a screen shot of the PDF and then inserted it as a picture into a word file. I wouldn't call that conversion. I would like my money back. How can I get my money refunded to me?
If the original PDF was an image, you need to perform OCR (text recognition) during the conversion.

If anyone can please help me, I would like to continue using iMessage on my laptop, but none of my new conversations exist only the older ones. I went into the iMessage preferences to delete my old number off the iMessage account and added my new number and email but I still don't get any new messages. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

Roundtrip Motion 5 from Final Cut X?
