I broke my USB mouse, is it possible to set up my imac with an old pro mouse without having a mouse to navigate?

I'm in the market for a new mouse, and a friend offered an older style I get by for the time being. My computer doesn't seem to recognize it; how do i know if it even works and how do I set it up? Can I use a non-apple mouse? I'm a on tight budget, and it seems some of the aftermarket mice are cheaper and offer more options. I'm sorry if this has been covered somewhere else, but I'm limited to using my iPhone 4 for the time being.

There are aftermarket USB wired mice at the Apple store online and likely in a retail location, in addition to Apple wired and wireless mouse, touchpad, etc. Most any quality mouse should work. And likely without additional software. Plug and play.

Not sure why the older Apple pro mouse doesn't work. Maybe the newer ones have different circuitry inside compared to vintage ones from 10+ years ago. The original dark color 'Pro mouse' was a good product. I have one that failed only due to the wire coming apart right at the mouse. Some people will repair those.

I am trying to get the data that gets inserted to be added to an existing excel doc when the submit button gets hit, the form then resets and someone else can fill in the same form, hit submit and his data gets added to the existing data in the same excel doc. It is basically the same as the 'collecting response' option but without having to be online. The form is going to be used at a boat-show and I am going to get people to fill it out on an iPad. Does anybody know if this is possible?

You could connect a bunch of 3700s to each computer and do this .
Or...since you're the one who monitors the monthly limit, you could restrict an individual's internet access once you see that you guys are coming too close to the cap.

Hi to all labview users... Please help me with my deadly problem. Last Deadline is on monday next week!.
I got a complete program now, written and tested OK. It communicates with a slave to control a motor. I've set up the program to communicate with the slave by the VISA RS232 Serial Port commuication. and all works fine...
Now the problem is.. that The communication should have been by the USB port instead. So what I have done now, is that i used a USB to RS232 converter. So that the USB Plug is plugged to the PC, and the RS232 end to my SLAVE,
When I send a command to my SLAVE, the SLAVE seems to understand it and it executes the command. But I must read some data at the port after sending my command to the SLAVE, coz, this command ask the SLAVE to start streaming data to me.
All communication to me from the Slave crashes so that i get ( sometimes if I get data ) wrong unknown data i cant understand.
So the big question is: Can i use USB communication although my Application is set up with serial communication if I use a USB to RS232 converter??? ( the Driver for the USB - SERIAL conv. is installed well.)
Baudrate :115200.. parity : none, Data bits: 8, stop bit : 1.
Please help me.....

Thanks for your detalied description of the problem. However I think the problem is how your USB-RS232 converter is converting the incoming serial command to the USB port. All Labview can see is a "normal" serial port. Do you have some information on the converter? You might also want to contact them to see if they are aware of this issue.

If you have the application builder (included in LabVIEW professional and above) you can make a LabVIEW application that can be distributed and run on machines that don't have LabVIEW installed. If you only have LabVIEW full, you can purchase it seperately.
The target machine requires the LabVIEW runtime, which is freely downloadable from NI, or can be included with the installer of your application.

Possible solution for white C2D iMacs with screen artifacts or lines

I have a white 20" Core 2 Duo iMac with the famous screen artifacts issues. Screen tearing, horizontal lines, goofy pixels, you name it. From my research it seems there are countless others with these problems.
I tried running the SMC fan control app to boost fan speeds. This helped a little, but did not completely solve the issue. A lot of people think these issues are related to heat, and I agree, but only partially. When a graphics chip overheats it is eventually damaged. I have damaged my share of graphics chips while overclocking them in my PCs. In the case of my iMac and maybe plenty of others, I still have issues if the GPU is hot or cold.
I installed WinXP using bootcamp. I finally found an application which will change the clock speed of the GPU on the fly. The X1600 GPU in my iMac has a 475Mhz core speed and 500Mhz memory speed. I cut these down to 400Mhz on the core and 400Mhz on the memory. At these lower speeds I no longer have any issues with screen tearing, horizontal lines, or random crashing. I do still have a few wierd pixels here and there, but they are not all that noticeable and I can live with them.
Now for the fun part. I wanted to permanently fix these speeds into my GPU so when I boot back to Mac OS X, I don't have any issues, and I no longer have to boost fan speeds or run any additional apps. I spent most of today taking apart my iMac, putting DOS on a spare SATA hard drive, and running an external monitor while booting my iMac with the spare drive hanging out the side. All this so I can run ATIflash, and use it to dump an image of the GPU BIOS ROM file.
Well, I ended up finding out the ATI GPU has no ROM to flash. My best guess is open firmware or something like that passes this data on to the GPU when the system boots.
So, in my case slowing the GPU down significantly reduced my problems while running within windows. I am 100% confident slowing the GPU down will also improve issues within Mac OS X, but I have no way to pull this off.
If Apple reads this, or if anyone has any connections at Apple, can we please get an optional firmware update to reduce the speeds of the X1600 GPU? It won't fix all the iMacs with these issues, but it will fix quite a few, and for those out there who don't have any issues at all with their white C2D iMacs, lowering the GPU speeds will most likely prevent damage from inevitably occurring, keeping them a happy customer.
Now, some of you may not like the idea of a slower GPU, but if I have to pick between a slower GPU and an $800 logic board, I will take the slower GPU any day.

you could find a suitable stock fire image in the motion library, then place your footage over it, scale down to reveal fire behind/ mask fire around as you want, just to give a basic idea.

I tried all of the suggestions, sort of. I did not have alcohol wipes, but I did take alcohol and pour some ona white paper towel and then rolled the mouse touch ball aroound and that finally cleared up the problem. Just inverting it on paper did not do the reick, it needed some help with the alcohol. Of course the probelm is the debris that gets inside and it really needs to come out.
This is a huge problem for RIM devices users too.

Mouse Button Shortcuts possible?

I just purchased a Logitech M500 Corded Mouse (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice_pointers/mice/devices/5743). When I tried creating shortcuts for the Back and Forward Buttons in Photoshop, the forward button gave me a "The key press cannot be used as a shortcut." The back button didn't do anything - no warning nor did it input the shortcut.
This kinda stinks...I was really hoping I'd be able to bind some of the more frequent tools/options to my different mouse buttons. Is it not possible? I've also attached a screenshot of my mouse preferences. I thought maybe it has to be using one of those certain options to be useable by Photoshop? I tried several different ones including Keystroke and Modifiers, but nothing has worked. Any thoughts?

I had to point mine to certain applications, but there aren't any conflicts once I got it all set up. I have a Logitech MX1100 (BTW, I love this mouse and I totally recommend it).
Here's a screenshot of the preferences. There is a menu at the top where you add/remove applications.

Is it possible to wifi sync without having synced using USB at all beforehand?

Ive really managed to screw up my iPhone, I kept trying to sync but my computer didnt recognise it so I reset all the settings and content on my iphone from the menu but that didnt work so I tried putting it into recovery mode but when I tried to restore it I got error 1611, then when i put it in DFU once I got error 28. It has in the mean time it has gone back to working fine as an iphone (out of DFU and recovery mode) but still it cant be found by any computer and so I have no music or audiobooks on it and an unable to sync although my iphone does charge when plugged in? I have no idea what to do and my iPhones out of warranty so I was wondering if there was any possible way where I could get my iphone to sync over wifi without having to have been synced by USB first and had Wifi Sync turned on? Is there any way of say putting in a file convincing my computer it had been synced and wifi had been turned on because otherwise my iphone is obselete and its pay as you go so I'm not getting another at any point.

Could be that your docking port is damaged:

Your phone has to be recognized via USB at least once, to be able to sync using Wi-Fi.
