That is the Activation Lock
There no way around that without the previous owner's AppleID and password.
It is totally worthless to you. Return it an get your money back.

I hope you bought this from a store, you can return it and get your money back. BUT if you bought from a person off the street or off the net, someone you don't know... I'm thinking you just got screwed! And are out the money and have an expensive paper weight. I hope I'm wrong, but I think you have a stolen iPod. If you can find the person that sold it to you return it and get your money back, but I'm thinking they are long gone. If you can not find the person report it to the police and turn it over. If you do not want to use passcodes, why don't you just go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock and delete the passcode and set the lock to OFF. That will eliminate the problems all together.

Try:
- Another cable
- Another USB port
- Reboot the computer
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You need to delete and redownload those applications. His Apple ID is stored inside them.

You have encounter Activation Lock, the antitheft feature of the iPhone. The previous owner did not remove the phone from their account. The phone cannot be used until they do. Return to the store and let them sort this out. It is very unusual for someone to "forget" to disable activation lock, as it is necessary to do so to erase personal information on the phone. So it is quite likely you bought a stolen phone.

My husband used my icloud, apple ID info on his iphone 5. we have tried deleting with no luck. Ive done a factory reset and still it won't delete his email as icloud on my phone now.

Content (apps, music, ibooks, films etc) is tied to the account that originally downloaded it, so if the iBooks app was downloaded using the account that you used to share with your ex then only that account can download updates to it. As it's a free app you could delete it and re-download it under your own account - and then re-download your ibooks into it (or copy the books to your computer's iTunes first via File > Transfer Purchases and then sync them back to the app).

It is correct. Update your account settings and information. If the security code is all that is needed to verify your account, that is pretty easy to fix.

Take it back. The activation lock is an anti-theft measure and there is no way to bypass it. The seller should have wiped it clean for you and if they can't then it's a very real possibility that the device wasn't theirs to sell in the first place.
You bought a device that can never function so get your money back.

If you know the apple id login it's possible for you to be able to reset the password to this apple id by going to:

This will give you the opportunity to reset your password that is once again if you know the name of the apple id.
There will be significant identify verification required.

I would first recommend that you completely uninstall iTunes and all of its related components in the correct order, however.
