    I'm burning dvd's that won't play on a regular dvd player.  What am I doing wrong?  They play fine on computers but not on dvd players.  Are there some simple things to check to figure this out?  (Sorry, I know this has been asked many times).  Created in DVD studio pro.

    Hi
    Just my thoughts to add to the excellent answers above.
    • BRAND of DVD used - Matters when doing Video-DVDs
    Memorex, NoName etc cheap brands usually do NOT work
    I only Use Verbatim (more organic dye in these)
    • Type of DVD - matters
    - DVD+/RW - usually results in problems
    - DL-DVDs are more problematic than SL-DVDs
    - DVD+R are a more modern sort - BUT PLAYS BADLY or not at all on older DVD-players
    I only use DVD-R
    • BURN SPEED - matters
    - Best in iDVD app - IS NOT BEST at all but results in lot's of Burn Errors = Doesn't play well or at all
    I set this down to x2 or x4 max.

  • ITunes discs burned on DL dvds won't play some aiff's, crashes

    Is it because several files are close the the layer-break point that they won't play? Why would the difficulty be with 10-13 consecutive .aiff files instead of just one closest to the layer-break point on the dual-layer disc? I've tried so many different brands of DL discs with iTunes, Toast and Apple Disk Utility, but 99 percent of them fail and yield coasters. I thought the recent burn of an iTunes playlist across three discs gave me a "successfully completed" message, but why would several tracks get stuck midway down their playlists.

    This problem had me stumped for over a week. I think I found a solution to it but before I give it I'd like to mention one thing. The mp4 container and specifically the H264 format are monsters. Any number of encoding flags/methods could be responsible for this behavior... trust me I know I've spent a lot of time messing with the dam things. So if this doesn't work for you it should at least form a basis for a solution that is to say apply this and then start fooling with other things.
    What I found was some encoders like ffmpeg put something called MOOV atoms at the end of the mp4 file. ITunes must read these before it can play the file. Not really a problem for disk based files that can skip to the end of the file, but for streaming over a network it's a no go. So google a program called MP4Box download it and run the following command:
    MP4Box -isma VIDEO.mp4
    Hope this works for you all!

  • Burned and purchased songs won't play in iTunes

    My wife got a new computer.  Really nice rig.  Runs Windows 7.  And with that a new iTunes installation (she never installed the new one.  she doesn't like change).  All the songs she burned from CDs, and I was just informed all the songs she's bought, show up in iTunes, but won't play (I imported ALOT of stuff from an external HD onto the new computer).  The music files still exist in the iTunes music folder.  She can even play the song if she manually clicks on the file in that folder.  But try to play the same song through iTunes and no luck.  It's rather frustrating for her.  And this kind of stuff doesn't exactly endear me to iTunes stuff either (and don't get me started on GameCenter on my iPhone).
    Anyone know what's causing this issue and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    The folder you see as My Music is really called Music. Windows will present such special folders with different names depending on the context, so the same folder on my computer when viewed from another user's account would show up as Steve's Music.
    What we haven't established yet is the layout of the (original) media folder which is why I suggested the other route first followed by a clean up, however I was going to recommend that you rearranged things into the standard layout and from what I can see there is no reason why it shouldn't work if you just put things where they are expected to be right now.
    Here are the typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
    Note that in the newer layout all artist folders go into a Music subfolder within the media folder.
    If you move everything that is currently inside iTunes Music into iTunes Media, including the hidden file iTunes Preferences.plist, iTunes should pick it all up without further problems.
    Once iTunes is in touch with the media if the artist folders are at the level of iTunes Media rather than iTunes Media\Music use the option File > Library > Organize Library... > Rearrange files in the folder "iTunes Media".

  • Idvd burns to disk but won't play on computer

    I'm a photographer and am trying to make a basic slideshow for a client. I've burned the disc and it will play on my tv but when I try to play it on the computer it only shows two folders (audio and visual) with a bunch of files inside.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi SJS
    Does it look like this on your computer?
    If so, use apple's DVD Player (in your applications folder) to open the Video_TS folder like this:
    Click Here:

  • ITunes won't play quicktime videos on Mac anymore.

    I'm using 10.7.3
    iTunes 10.6
    MacBook Pro 2.6Ghz 4GB ram
    iTunes won't play my video anymore and it's been a while I'm not sure when it occured if it's after an update to snow leopard or iTunes updates...
    When I double click a video I get "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." ??
    ...and cannot convert the option doesn't work I get this other message when trying to convert a version for APPLE TV in advanced menu "None of the selected files were converted because they could not be found."??
    But the movies are quicktime movies in my library and the MPEG-4 plays in iTunes but not on APPLE TV.
    From all my videos I get one only going through APPLE TV and when I try opening it it says error occured why opening and never works??
    It seems APPLE is regularly messing things up in updates to loose people so they have to pay for tech support, I didn't upgrade to iPhoto 11 and cannot import anything anymore into it so my entire library is a dead one ; not a cool way to do business than messing people software so they have to buy newer versions!!!
    Any specialists that know how to fix this ??

    The 32-bit solution has never, I repeat, never worked for me.  I've even done a full reinstall on a clean drive of OSX Lion with a fresh install of iTunes downloading a video of "The Big Bang Theory" that just came out this last thursday and still get the error (just finished the full reinstall to a clean drive now and, no, I didn't do any backup restores.)
    The only solution I've found is to remove the video from iTunes, without deleting the file, then import the file back into iTunes.
    Switching to 32-bit iTunes to run the file causes iTunes to tell me it needs to open iTunes to play the file then it sits and waits for itself to open until I cancel the process.  The video then plays without audio.
    I have noticed that I can stream the files to my Apple TV to play even while getting the error trying to play them on the computer I downloaded the files onto.
    As a result of this error, I've had to reduce the amount of content I purchase from iTunes.  no more buying whole seasons at a time unless I do it at the start of the season.  Even then, I'm reconsidering it.  The amount of work required to get the files into a playable status on the computer is simply too great on an on-going basis.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, movies won't play in PPT for Mac 2011. ideas?

    Since upgrading to Lion, my movies will not play within PPT for Mac 2011.  Do I have to install new CODECs?  how?

    Asatoran,    Good ideal.   I went there with the question and got this response:
    "The windows version was probably built with active-x controls which do not work on the Mac. you will need to change the controls to those on the forms tool bar."
    I found a form tool bar in the developer section, but nothing on active controls....and the sheet is protected not allowing any changes anyway.
    Thanks again for the direction.

  • Won't play Apple "Get a Mac" ads in Safari

    I was hoping 2.1 would fix this, but it hasn't. I am unable to play the "Get a Mac" ad movies on the Apple website through Safari. I get a "Movie Format Not Supported" error. Huh? The Apple iPhone doesn't support Apple Quicktime? That's like having a Macintosh that can't run OSX.
    Is this a bug or does Apple's right hand really not know what its left hand is doing?

    I also have the same issue --- very odd, any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. It's almost comical that apple's quicktime is a movie format that is "not supported" by the iphone...

    first, you might have better luck in the correct forum. this is for Mac Pro's

    Do you want to burn a data DVD or a Movie DVD? If it's the 2nd one, then get iDVD or another movie dvd making application. Most computers don't have that capability
    "naturally", you have to go out and get something that'll let you do that

  • Burned CDs and DVDs won't play

    I have a relatively new iBook G4. When I insert a CD or DVD that has been purchased, it works fine. However, when I insert a CD or DVD that has been burned or homemade, my computer recongnizes it as a blank disk. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    What company makes the discs that you are trying to use? Were they burned with a Windows computer? • DVDs burned with Encore CS6 won't play in PC/MAC standard player

    Wondering what is going on with an issue on Encore CS6 (W8), as it will burn DVDs that work with PowerDVD but not with OS X's default media player or Windows Media Player
    Same computer earlier this year with Encore CS5.5 (W7), DVDs would read in WMP as well
    No problem with blu-rays

    What brand of blank, and what burning speed?
    Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
    Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a Memorex box)
    When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no DVD player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help
    Use Taiyo Yuden single layer or Verbatim Two layer Or Falcon Pro for inkjet printable Two layer

  • DVD-R's burned on my pc won't play on my Macbook Air

    Ok, i'm new to mac, here we go. I bought a Macbook Air 2011. its running lion. I have a liteon external dvd burner eTAU208. The burner is recongized, it will burn a new disk. any DVD disk, data or movie will not be playable on my mac. the dvd icon will not appear on the desktop. i have an older burner, i mean older too. i works fine, reads and writes, with it the icon appears on the desktop. my research showed that the liteon burner was mac compatable. are dvds burned on a pc not readable on a mac? If so is there a work around. I have a lot of data i've burned to disk. I have to be able to access it. If anybody has any ideas it would be appreciated. thanx

    When you burned the disk, did you also "finalize" the disk, using the software that was used to copy the files? If not, then the disk will be only readable by on OS running the driver for that software. Once finalized, it can be read by near any computer.
    Also make sure that Finder's preferences are set to display DVD's on the desktop.
    p.s. when burning DVD's on your Mac, they will be finalized by default.

  • DVD made on a Mac, won't play correctly on a Mac, will play on a DVD player

    Can some bright person please explain this?
    I have an NTSC project, 90 mins in length.  I made an m2v file in Compressor (at several different presets, all with the same result), from which I authored a DVD in DVDSP.
    The resulting DVD plays fine in a DVD player onto a TV, but stutters slightly, and unpredictably, when played on any of my three Macs, (and on a PC as well!). The stuttering will not necessarily be in the same place in the timeline every time.  The stuttering shows up on horizontal pans (there is a lot of rostrum artwork in this project, so lots of smooth pans across drawings).  Now, when I look at the m2v file directly in MPEGStreamclip, I see the stuttering as well.  Also, when I look directly at the footage in the FCP timeline, sure enough, there is occasional stuttering there too, but here's the thing - when I look at the direct output from the timeline simultaneously on a TV monitor, there is no stuttering.
    I tried putting compression markers every 10 frames in the worst affected areas, but it made no difference.  Examining the m2v file closely, I can see all the frames are as they should be - there is no evidence of the image being out of place, so it's a playback issue, not a compression issue.  It seems the computer dispaly cannot keep up with the playback, even though the computer itself can (hence the correct display on a TV).
    I regularly play commercial DVDs in these Macs, with no problem whatsoever.  I am now trying to produce a commercial DVD which will play equally well in a computer as in a DVD player.  Where am I going wrong?
    (I regularly make DVDs from material sourced either in the PAL format or an HD format, following the same workflow, and have not experienced this problem before.  I don't know whether that is of any significance.)
    Tech details:  FCP v6.0.5 (FCS)

    Well, I tried that on a section, and I'm afraid it may have been worse than I had originally.  These are the settings in Compressor that I tried.  Am I still getting something wrong?

  • Web site hosted video won't play in Safari on MAC.

    I have a web application that runs in a web browser. One of its features is the ability to embed a video clip in a web page hosted on this application.
    If I create a web page using the HTML5 <video> tag and an H.264 encoded MP4 file video clip, I can browse to this page from my web server and see the video. However, if I launch this same HTML page within my application (window.open(URL, _blank, ...)) it displays the page but refuses to play the video. This happens in Safari 5.1 on my Mac OS10.7 and on all browser tested on my iPad2 (Safari, Mecury, and Dolphin). However, the same HTML code plays fine through my application on all browsers on Windows (including Safari for Windows) and all other browsers (Firefox, Chrome, and Opera) on the Mac. It also plays through the default Android browser and the Opera Mobile browser on my Android tablet.
    Here is a sample of the HTML that I am using to play this video...
    <video height="713" width="950" autoplay="autoplay" controls="controls" poster="WhiteScreen.png">
         <source src="tradeintradeup.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
         <source src="tradeintradeup.webm" type="video/webm" />
         <source src="tradeintradeup.ogg" type="video/ogg" />
         <div id-noupdate>
              <p>Video format not supported by this browser</p>
         </div>
    </video>
    When the video does not play, I do NOT get the text in the div, I see an area where the video should be (so the browser is recognizing the <video> tag) but the video never loads or plays.
    What am I missing?
    Thank you for your assistance.
    Dave Smith

    Michael,
    Thank you for your response.
    I am aware of the autoplay restriction on iOS devices. What I see in my iPad(2) is an empty area of the window with no control to touch/click to start the video playing.
    In Safari on my Mac, I do see the control bar with the rewind/replay and the play buttons; however, the word "Loading..." is displayed forever in the bar. Again, the browser recognizes the video tag and creates the control to play the clip, but the video never actually starts playing. It appears that it hangs trying to download/stream the content.
    I have other pages that embed audio clips using the HTML5 <audio> tag. These play fine, as expected, with Safari on my Mac and on my iPad. Yes, I have to manually start the audio on the iPad, but it runs fine once started and autoplays on the Mac. Of course, these audio files are much smaller than the video files that will not play.
    I have looked at the codec used for the video to see if it might not be compatible with the Mac Safari browser, but the video plays directly from my web site. It only fails to play when launched in a pop-up window by my web application. I realize that this points to a problem in my application. I am trying to get some ideas about where to look in my application for the problem.
    Thanks again for your time and your input.
