I can connect to my WRT110 but it won't connect to the internet.

My MacBook and xbox can connect to my router both wirelessly and wired, but then can't connect to the internet. When I connect either directly to the modem they work fine. I have updated the firmware on my router and reset it to factory settings. Also the router keeps telling me its Jan 1, 1970. What else can I do besided getting a new router?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

My mail account is set up properly, I can connect to the Internet, but I cannot get mail from the Mail app on my iPad.

    Hello echo1946
Start with the first article to troubleshoot the issue of not getting mail on your iPad. When you get online using safari, check to see if you can log into webmail. Also keep in mind, depending on the account that mail sometimes might not come in if it is a POP account as it may have already been download elsewhere.

My safari can connect to the Internet, but other apps can't. I am using ipad3 wifi edition

I have managed to resolve it. What I found is I typed in a wrong password when one app loaded. That app gave a misleading network connectivity error. Other apps are connecting fine now.

  • TS1492 I can connect to the internet but not to itunes

itunes error 11333, I can connect to the internet but not to itunes Store. Apple Support, mention update to itunes 7.5 will solve the problem, but if check for itunes updates in my system, it says that the system is pu to date

I won't give you a lecture about how poor WEP encryption is, but are you sure that is the problem? Is it possible that your new modem (or the carrier behind it) is not providing DHCP service?

  • Two user profiles on my iMac but only one can connect to the internet

    Hi,
I got the most recent upgrade for Lion and installed it.  I have two user profiles on my iMac and now, only one of them can connect to the internet yet both appear to have gotten the full upgrades.  Any ideas why this might be happening?
    Thanks!!

Does the Account that can not connect to the Internet have full Administative priveleges or is it a Standard Account. If Standard, check to make sure it is allowed to connect.

Depends which iMac exactly and your network setup, you can go into System Preferences and under the Sharing pane you can enable internet sharing from ethernet (or whereever you get your internet from) to Wi-Fi.

I am using several Macs running Yosemite. I was recently “upgraded” to Xfinity’s new cable modem which can support both 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz networks at the same time. Actually I can connect to the internet over both with a satisfactory bump in speed for the Ghz. However when I connect to the 5Ghz the Time capsule disappears from the Airport Utility and claims to be Not Found. Is there something I have done wrong or just a Yosemite Teething Problem

First restart your mac and try again.
    It could be
that the router and the TC are interfering wirelessly with each other.
You can check this by pressing the option key while clicking on the wireless icon on your screen
    Open Wireless Diagnostics
    enter your user password
    Press CMD 4 then Scan
You will see all the wireless channels being used in your location and you can check if they are on the same channel
Make the SSID for the TC simple like MyTC
    Set 5Ghz to auto
    Update the TC
    Try again

My iMac is locked on a bad IP address (169), how do I get it to release so I can connect to the internet?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try unplugging the Apple Tv and restarting and restating your router. You should also check that the Apple Tv is set to use the correct location.

  • Incorrect IP displayed, but can connect to the Internet. How can I find out what's causing this?

I'm running 10.6.8, and various programs and websites that report my IP address are not displaying the correct one. I'm operating with a static IP, and I know my AirPort's IP, and the one displayed is neither of those (and in fact cannot be given out by my airport).
I can still connect to the Internet, but some services which require people to connect to my IP fail because the program on my end is hosting at the wrong IP.
Is there any way to find out where this rogue IP came from and eliminate it?
Of note, my AirPort is my only active network protocol (all others are disabled), and about 10% of the time, a restart manages to fix the problem until the next time I boot up my computer, without me changing any other settings.

When you use the Internet, you need to have a registered IP address. This is provided by your ISP, and you have assigned it to your Router.
You then get a "private" IP Address from your Router via DHCP which, by definition, is not visible or reachable on the Internet, in one of these ranges:
    192.168.xxx.yyy
    172.xxx.yyy.zzz
    10.xxx.yyy.zzz
Your Router acts as your agent on the Internet, and bad guys cannot send you... anything you do not have your Router ask for, as you are invisible.

  • My router can connect to the internet but computers that connect to the router can't.

I have a Wrt54g version 3.0 connected to a Speedstream modem.  I also have one wired computer connected to my wrt54g and one wireless laptop.  Both my computers can connect to the the router's web interface.  When I go to the status tab, the router is able to get a public IP address and under the diagnostics tab I'm able to ping and tracert to www.yahoo.com just fine.  But the computers that connect to the wrt54g cannot connect to the public internet.  It is really strange.  The computers get an IP from DHCP and I'm able to ping the internal gateway but I cannot ping a public IP address from the computers.  I've got the latest firmware and have tried to restore to factory default without any sucesss?  Any suggestions anyone?

Check the Setup - Advanced Routing page. What you see sounds like you run in "Router Mode" or "NAT disabled". Change to "Gateway Mode" or enable NAT.

  • No longer can connect to the internet after updating to 10.4.10 for Intel

I (fortunately) use a cloning program (SuperDuper) to clone my MacBook Pro hard drive now and then on to an external Firewire hard drive... I say "fortunately" because after reading some of the problems folks were having with this most recent OS X update (10.4.10) I chose to update the cloned hard drive first before installing the update on the main drive... On or about 6/20 an update came out (that I can't find anymore so maybe they pulled it??) that was called "MacOSXUpd10.4.10IntelPatch.pkg". First I installed that update on my cloned drive... It booted and worked fine except that when I would try to communicate with the internet wirelessly, I could not... I didn't try a "wired" connection because I am not interested in connecting that way. The system would claim to connect to my wireless router (NetGear WGU624) but pages would time out before loading... Next I tried installing the newer (7/02) Combo package called "MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10Intel.pkg" but that improved nothing. Still no useable wireless internet connection... So in no way will I be putting this 10.4.10 update (Patch or Combo) on my main drive until something gets fixed... In fact, I went ahead and overwrote what I had on the firewire drive by recloning my main drive (running under 10.4.9) to that firewire drive again... Once I got 10.4.9 reinstalled on that firewire drive, it again connected to the internet just fine... So my experience is that there is something not happy about either the Patch or the Combo updates for 10.4.10, at least as it relates to my Intel system... I also have a G4 PPC and on that machine, the PPC version of the 10.4.10 update worked just fine (though that is a wired connection, if that matters)... Anything I am missing or can someone offer other input other than not to upgrade at this time??? Thanks... Bob...

    Hello Robert:
I infer from your post that you selected the updates to install, rather than using software update (IMHO a bad idea). At the moment, as I understand your post, your backup is not working properly and your internal HD has not been changed.
    I suggest this:
Clone your HD to your external firewire drive (new copy, not an update of changed data.
Then you have a clone in case someting goes wrong.
Update your HD using software update. If everything is running well after that, you are OK. If not, you can restore your HD from the clone.
The reason I favor using software update is that the system selects the proper software. When Apple releases updates, there are several versions available.
If you know all this, forgive the explanation - I do not know your level of computer expertise.
As an aside, there is nothing (that I am aware of) organically wrong with the OS X 10.4.10 update. Apple did release a 10.4.10 v1. update for the Intel boxes (I do not run Intel-based Macs, so I have not investigated it):
